Drive DVD RW E no longer works.

Drive DVD RW E no longer works.

I'm running a gateway T-1412 with Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2

DVD RW drive used to work fine, but now when I put music or a DVD in drive E that nothing happens. When I click on my computer and click on the E drive, it opens and tells me to insert a disc that has already been inserted.

I have tried everything I can think of who isn't much so help is greatly needed.

Thanks, Dan

You have disk problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD & DVD burn
and CD and DVD read). So it is not unusual for 1 or 2 operational so that other parts
do it right.

Burning at low speed, or by using the master could help. A CD/DVD cleaner might help.

Brand of the CD or DVD drive can also be the problem. Low quality (cheap brands) are always problematic.

CD/DVDs have a tolerance + - and your can read/write on the edge outside these discs
tolerances. They may be delivered, but it is generally more economical to replace the disk.

Several good info here:

===========================================

This troubleshooting could not help if there is alignment and/or wear issues however it
a shot.

Step 1: Please do all the same underneath if you did some before as is often total
a process that solves the problem.

Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double click on the device - driver tab.
Click on update drivers (this will probably do nothing) - RIGHT click ON the drive - uninstall.
RESTART this will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue
below.

Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a coward
cable or slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.

Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then make sure that the cables in both
ends. Remove and replace, do not just tight. For laptops, you can often clean power and
contacts data with a pencil eraser.

Some DVD players do not use the Windows default drivers so check with the manufacturer of system and
manufacturer of device to see if there is a firmware or drivers for your drive if necessary.

Step 2: You have disc problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD & DVD
Burn and CD and DVD read). So it is not unusual for 1 or 2 operational so that other parts
do it right.

Did you follow the Troubleshooting Guide for the reader who still does not work? There are
the entries in registry that the troubleshooter does not solve and those who "might" be the cause.

Check with your Maker system and a device for the two possible firmware updates and
the correct registry entries for your car.

Here are the keys that I of course are those in question - for the subkeys of the CD/DVD drive
as there will be other subkeys in these keys. Do not forget to ask specific keys involved as well as
the parameters.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\IDE

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Hardware Profiles\0001\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\IDE

drive from someone with the same model.

Use DevManView to locate the CD/DVD in the registry (be careful and do a prior Restore Point)

    Hello

What shortcut you mean exactly? It is very strange that, shortly after, the material has this kind of function of failure. You did some changes or something that can be the reason for this? You can burn all types of CD?

In my opinion, you should try to reinstall the OS using the recovery CD. If there is the same problem again, it may be a defect in the material.

Can you please tell me how old is this model of laptop? It takes about 5 years now. And after a long period of time, you come to the conclusion to exchange the optical disk drive. Strange!

Anyway have you checked the compatibility with the FW UJ-811 t? the assignment of PIN on all optical disk drives is not the same.

In any case for DVD - RAM features, you must install driver DVD-RAM. I ve used a long time ago and DVD-RAM P20 worked very well.

On reboot, Windows should automatically detect the new hardware and install a driver.  Once this done, go to Device Manager and select update.  Or go to the manufacturer of your computer and get an update for the reader.

    Hello Vancouverhome,

I suggest that you run by following the below Fix - it. This will automatically diagnose and repair problems with your CD or DVD drive when trying to read or burn media:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/GP/cd_dvd_drive_problems

    1. click on start this image and then click on all programs.

    2. click on accessories and then click Run.

3 type regedit, and then click OK, if you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or click on allow.

In the navigation pane, find and then click the following registry subkey:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

    4. in the right pane, click UpperFilters.

Note: You may also see an UpperFilters.bak registry entry. You don't have to delete this entry. Click UpperFilters. If you do not see the UpperFilters registry entry, you may still have to delete the LowerFilters registry entry. To do this, go to step 8.

    5. on the Edit menu, click on delete.

    6. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.

    7. in the right pane, click LowerFilters.

Note If you do not see the LowerFilters registry entry, unfortunately this content cannot help you. Go to the section "Next steps" to learn how you can find more solutions or more help on the Microsoft Web site.

    8. in the Edit menu, click on delete.

    9. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.

    10. exit the registry editor.

    11. restart the computer.

Important: This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. Replace old hard drive with an SSD.  Now some of the keys on the keyboard stopped working.  Ex 'e' and 'b' keys no longer work?  Any idea what could take place in the disc replacement?

Probably nothing, it's probably a fluke. Try resetting the SMC and the PRAM by iMac Intel SCM and reset the PRAM. If this does not work, try a USB keyboard to test, if it works then your original keyboard has failed and must be replaced.
