drive hard keeps disconnecting

not long ago, I bought a seagate 2 TB backup more hard drive (I think his name?) and not long after that I got it he began to act up, the hard drive itself works absolutely well but every now and then it will automatically disconnects neatly from my laptop, I have a mid 2012 15' mac pro which is in great need of upgrading and I receive the mac air the next month but it's quite annoying when your at half way through your files and it disconnects without warning. Does it randomly and even if I shift the wire slightly or sometimes even if not shift the wire or move the laptop at all always unplug it. has anyone else had this problem before? If so how to solve it? It's weird because when I'm in charge my ipad/phone with apple usb, I don't have problems with them, so I think it's just a really loose usb cable but is there anyway I could connect it wireless? This would be ideal, but I didn't buy a wireless hard drive, but they are too expensive

Based on my experience wih other external Seagate, the problem could be a faulty cable or a faulty case. I deal with two external Seagate whose pens were bad, specifically the removable base containing power/data connectors. In one case, Seagate sent me a replacement base and that solved the problem. The other drive was out of warranty. So I extracted from its enclosure and installed in a decent House, after which he worked perfectly. However, you should also check your energy saving settings. It is possible that they interfere with file transfers.

I wouldn't buy anything external to WD, Seagate drives, etc. I buy some player I want and install it in a good, such as OWC or Oyen digital body. I also tried Inateck and Anker, inexpensive cases with good results so far. These boxes make it easy to Exchange discs inside or outside for troubleshooting purposes, and you have the advantage of knowing exactly what player you are using. You can also use a USB 3 dock in this situation.

    Hi tim8888,

Thank you for visiting Microsoft Answers.

You can use Disk Defragmenter and check if the problem persists.

    To defragment your hard drive

    1. open the disk by clicking the Start button Defragmenter. In the search box, type and then Disk Defragmenter in the list of results, click Disk Defragmenter.

    2. under status, select the disk to defragment.

    3. to determine whether the disk should be defragmented or not, click Analyze disk.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Once Windows is finished analyzing the disk, you can check the percentage of disk fragmentation in the last run column. If the number is greater than 10%, you must defragment the drive.

    4. click on defragment disk. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

If this does not work, put the computer into safe mode and check if the problem persists.

    To do this:

    1. remove all floppy disks, CDs and DVDs from your computer and restart your computer.

Click the Start button, click the arrow next to the lock button, and then click restart.

    2. do one of the following:

    ·         If your computer has a single operating system installed, press and hold the F8 key as your computer restarts. You need to press F8 before the Windows logo appears. If the Windows logo appears, you need to try again by waiting until the Windows logon prompt appears, and then stop and restart your computer.

    ·         If your computer has more than one operating system, use the arrow keys to select the operating system you want to start in safe mode, and then press F8.

    3. in the display Advanced Startup Options , use the arrow keys to select the safe mode option, and then press ENTER.

4 log your computer with a user account with administrator rights.

    5. now check if the problem persists.

(To exit safe mode, restart your computer and let Windows start normally.)

For more information about safe mode, click the following link:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

You can also check the hard disk for errors. To do this:

    1. open the computer by clicking the Start button, click computer.

    2. right click on the hard drive you want to check, and then click Properties.

    3. click on the sur l' onglet tab Tools and then, under error-checking, click check now. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

To automatically repair problems with files and folders that detects the scanning, select automatically fix file system errors. Otherwise, the disk check will simply report a problem, but not to fix them.

To perform a full disk check, select search for and attempt recovery of bad sectors. This scan is trying to find and repair physical errors on the hard drive itself, and it may take much longer to complete.

To check for errors file and the physical errors, select automatically fix file system errors and search for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.

    4. click on Start.

  • Drive hard keeps fills, using CC Cleaner & Deffrag for a few weeks now. I do go down, & then it fills again! Help, please.

I'm running Vista 64, SP2 and my hard drive keeps filling.

I used CC Cleaner and Deffrag program for a few weeks now.

(just the CC Cleaner on its own takes me awhile because I don't want to delete everything I shouldn't)

I have moved away from home to the office and checked to see if there are "too many connections (?)" just in case it's something in the process.  Honestly, I can't say if there are too many?

I know that I don't want to lose the ability to remote into my office... so I leave them alone.

I wanted to delete some 'hidden' files $Recycle... but am concerned that my operation files original files are mixed in the files?

Is there a way to return to the top... few of the restoration copies?

AND... How can I stop this from happening?  I spent hours trying to manage it.

It comes down, then it fills again!

    Help, please.

    • You have uninstalled the CD software that fails to withdraw properly in the registry.
    • You have installed software that adds filter drivers in the CD and the storage stack of DVDs that interfere with existing filters.

    Reconnect your player (Important)

Your history file drive has been disconnected for too long.

To keep save copies of your files,.

Reconnect your player, then run a backup.

    Recently installed window 8.

    Upgrade Windows 7 clean boot.

    Inspiron 580 s 1 TB

    Windows 8.1

After TWO YEARS, someone should be able to give us a step by step, to "reconnect" an external, USB hard drive!  I unplugged and then plugged it, several times, without success.  I seem to have this problem with one of my disks USB, a Toshiba.  Access the drive through files Explorerer, seems to work, even if it is "disconnected". Historical files only has problems. Strange! Could it be the drive itself, or it is plugged in to the USB port?

I had the same issue this morning and found a solution that worked for me.

This post helped: Windows - historic community of 8 files windows does not recognize my drive hard iomega

    NOTE:

-make a backup copy of the files you delete first! (just in case)

-J' had deleted my old historical records from the files on the ext. HDD, so I lost no data. I can't guarantee that the ancient history of the file will be there if you remove the configuration files, as described below. In my opinion, it shouldn't happen, but since I have not tried, I can't guarantee that.

After checking my disk for drive errors (none) and update the drivers (not not mandatory), I went to this location of records:

    C:\Users\your user folder\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\FileHistory\Configuration

and remove the four files that were on it. Because they determine the configuration of the file history, when I ran the service once again, I could set up my drive as if it had never been used before. I started historic files, and it lets me choose my hard drive and run the backup as it should.

so if you have used their password, then this might be the reason why disk´s disconnected. Maybe the operating system simply does not support.
Remove the password and try to copy the files again to your server.

  • Satellite Pro L20 - disk hard keeps spinning down

Hi, I have recently updated the BIOS on my Toshiba Satellite Pro L20, and I noticed that the disk hard keeps spinning down after about a minute, even while typing or surfing on the internet. I checked the power settings Windows XP and have it put on the desk, with the time 'Disable hard drive' set to 5 minutes when it is plugged and 5 minutes on battery (I always use on the same network). I checked the BIOS settings to see if there is something listed there, but there are no settings for hard disk power management in the BIOS.

Although the turning down of the hard disk does not affect performance, I fear that it may be to focus on rising constant power drive / descent.
The new version of BIOS is 25 April 06 Windows Bios Update for Satellite L20 (PSL2X), Satellite Pro L20 (PSL2Y) and Equium L20 (PSL2Z)', or a file 2, 20 - WIN.

I think that it s nothing unusual that the HARD drive keeps spinning down applies none or BONES need the HARD disk activity.
In addition, the turning down of the HARD drive has no effect from the bottom on the performance of the HARD disk or over the life of the HARD drive.

    Hi mate

I recommend you in Win 7 the power management of the energy saving settings.
There you can change (disable) WLan Card to save energy.
    It helped in my case.

    Please also check this thread:

As I have said; power management setting is the key, you must also update the WLan driver!

  • Disk space hard keeps being endangered? I am sure that I do not have a virus...

I've recently updated my Vista to Service Pack 2, and a lot of problems arise.  I've never had these problems with Service Pack 1.

    (1) my hard drive space keeps disappearing.  I used to have 10 GB of free space and now he got up to 400 MBs.  Where is he past?  I have not installed any programs or downloaded viruses.  I've never had this problem until Service Pack 2 has been installed.  I heard people saying delete "restore points" but I've never had this problem with SP1. Why SP2 should change my settings without my consent?  How can I recover my memory disappears?

    (2) update my window is DISABLED.  I never left my computer install updates by itself, because I like to choose what updates I want.  However, I always get 'new' random programs whenever I restart my computer.  Just recently (4 days after I installed SP2) I have a 'maintenance' folder in my Start menu.  I did some research and it said that I had already installed maintenance, but then why he told me it was a 'new program' when I've had it for awhile?

    (3) my battery life went from roughly 15 minutes an hour.  While I understand batteries degrade over time, I highly doubt he would go from 1 hour 15 minutes instantly.  I'm not an engineer so I have no idea how batteries work, but I guess that my autonomy would see a gradual decline.  In addition, I find it very doubtful that my autonomy would diminish much the day of this, I installed SP2. What are the ways for me to reduce the process that SP2 uses so I can save my autonomy?

    Thank you

    Hi 60201

You can try the following steps and check.

    Step 1:

You try to run a disk cleanup to remove unwanted files and check if the problem persists.

For more information, run Disk Cleanup, see the following link:

    Delete files using disk cleanup.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/delete-files-using-disk-cleanup

    Step 2:

This can also occur if the power options are changed. You can check the power settings.

    Check out the link:

Change, create, or delete a power plan (scheme)

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/change-create-or-delete-a-power-plan-scheme

Also check that the size of the hyberfil.sys and pagefile.sys

If hibernation is enabled, the hyberfil.sys file size will be more.

You can also check the event viewer to check any recent activity that happens on the computer as well as the performance.

    Links:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/open-Event-Viewer
