Dual boot Win7 disk external eSata M4700 accurately

Because virtualization does not support some devices of HW, I need, I want to dual boot win7 Pro/64 at a (removable) disk external connected to my accuracy M4700 eSATA port.

eSata means better performance, but the start menu will be happy with a removable disk, i.e. wrong be connected permanently (obviously I does not start the operating system on the disk hard if it is not connected)?

And legal, is it possible to use the OEM license of operating system provided with the system for that?

As a question, are the BONES in a Win7 start menu linked to a physical drive on a specific Sata port? IOW, what happens if I move a HARD disk with a bootable partition / volume of the internal Bay (port 0) to an eSATA external enclosure connected to eSATA (port 5) port? The eSATA port is transparent to the Win7 boot loader? Volumes and drive letters remain unchanged and appear perfectly to the operating system on it?

Hi Benoitm,

Assuming the M4700 can boot from an external eSATA port, this should be possible. And it should be possible to install on a HARD drive, then put this drive in an external enclosure and start it. Your preferences and your drive letters must be maintained. You can check that your system can boot from a first external HARD disk.

The Dell license covers only the version of the operating system that is provided with the system. In theory, the dualboot requires two licenses.

  • create the dual boot with an external hard drive

I want to create dual boot laptop (OS 2 in 1) in my laptop, but my internal hard drive reach maximum (3) logical partition for my windows operating system 7 is not allow me to create a new logical partition install win8 pro. I've planed to buy an external hard drive and connect with my laptop and install win8 in external hard drive and use win8 and 7. Is it possible? If possible how to create? Please give me instructions step by step.

    Hi Karthik,

If your hard drive has enough free disk space, you can install a newer version of Windows on a separate partition and keep the earlier version of Windows on your computer. It's called a multiboot or dual-boot configuration. Every time that you start your computer, you can choose which version of Windows to run. You can also install Windows 8 on an external hard drive and use it to dual boot.

You can see the Microsoft article below for more information about this.

    Install multiple operating systems (multiboot)

  • Re: Problem of dual boot Win7 and WXP

I read the complete step by step how to Setup dual boot windows 7 and xp. I have all my partitions has prepared in advance and them labeled accordingly so there is no confusion.

I installed windows 7 on my new SATA drive. Everything went OK, except that I've never had a start this menu - at 7, it's like Windows XP Home edition was not there.
I downloaded and installed and ran, easybcd and tried to add the menu WXP manually entry. He asks the drive and the drive with xp on it is now Windows 7, drive D (when E is I boot xp).

All the necessary files (ntldr, boot.ini, ntdetect.com) are all on this disc. But when I try that menu entry, every computer is restart. It will start again than windows 7, unless I go into the BIOS settings and change the HDD boot order (in this list, if I do that with nr of partition Win7 1, I can boot windows 7 and only this, if I do that with nr of partition XP 1, I get my old regular boot.ini boot menu (what makes me also in my ubuntu wubi installation).)

I would like to be able to boot in Windows XP Home edition from the Windows 7 start menu, or, Alternatively, to want to boot Windows 7 Startup menu Windows XP Home (what would be even better).

    Are there directions for me?

    Thanks in advance.

I have more Satellite A300 with two hard drives and I've install WXP and Win7.
What you need is the Boot Manager. When you start your laptop, you can choose which OS should start, and one of them can be set as default OS so if you n t choose anything after 30 seconds, one of them will start automatically.

    I'm using Win7 OS default.

I put t know if something like this is possible. If you want to change your OS, you must restart your laptop and start the second OS.

Which means a complete reinstallation of parameters/data and applications existing/installed all be kept or partition the hard disk drive and to start new to new is the only solution?

If you dual-boot Windows 7 32-bit and 64-bit Windows 8, you will need to install the 64-bit native drivers. Windows 8 and 7 64 bit do not support 32-bit drivers.

Which means a complete reinstallation of parameters/data and applications existing/installed all be kept or partition the hard disk drive and to start new to new is the only solution?

Yes, you will have to reinstall applications too. You will be able to migrate your personal files and settings by using the Windows Easy Transfer utility.

Or install another hard drive would be more appropriate?

You can install it on another partition or hard disk. If you are installing on another partition or hard drive, you will need a full version of Windows 8.

  • Can I dual boot Win7 32 and Win7 64-bit by using the same product key?

    Hello

My desktop PC is dual boot with XP and Win 7 Pro 32-bit. Both are retail box versions.

I would replace the partition with Win 7 Pro 64-bit XP. (That I still keep installing Win 7 32 bit legacy hardware that does not work under a compatibility mode).

Can I install and activate the new 64-bit partition by using the same product key, or is that 32-bit installation fail/break?

    Thanks for any advice.

No, the key that can be used with 32-bit or 64-bit Windows 7 is exclusively for use with the disc 1. You cannot use install both. 1 license, 1 installation, so choose wisely. If you want to install Windows 7 32 or 64 bit on another partition or another computer, you must purchase an additional license.

If you comply with these license terms, you have the rights below for each license you acquire.

    b. a computer license. You can use the software on up to two processors of the computer under license at some point. Except as provided in these license terms, you cannot use the software on any other computer.

    c. number of users. Except as provided in these license terms, only one user may use the software at a time.

    d. other Versions. The software may include several versions, such as 32-bit and 64-bit. You may install and use only one version at a time.

Where can I still get Windows 7?

Because Windows 7 is in limited stock because Microsoft ended sales in October 2013, this created demand due to its rarity. This means the retail boxed copies request a bonus, while the OEM System Builder copies remain affordable.

    Full version (retail):

-Includes the rights of transfer to another computer.

-Does not require a qualifying earlier version of Windows.

    -Expensive

    Upgrade version (detail):

-Expensive, but less expensive full version

    OEM System Builder version:

-OEM versions don't offer any free direct support from Microsoft technical support Microsoft

-OEM Licenses are tied to the computer first you install and activate it on

-OEM versions allow all hardware upgrades except for an upgrade to a different model motherboard

  • I can install Windows 7 64-bit disk external eSATA SSD as my OS boot?

I would like to install on in-house, but I also need to run RAID disks for my data for redundancy.  I want to we SSD for my OS drive for obvious reasons (speed).  But the TRIM command to clean up the SSD is not functional through RAID controllers.  I wonder if Windows 7 is set up and operate from an eSATA drive?  My BIOS doesn't let me choose eSATA as a boot drive, but I've seen messages that mention the operating system Windows do not allow you to install on external drives.  I understand also is the eSATA 3 Gb/s, but I wonder if there are differences in bandwidth external case?

Or maybe the native command of Windows 7 ATA-TRIM works through RAID controllers?

Otherwise, I could have all the discs for the IDE installation, and then use Windows software RAID controller, but I believe that would considerably slow down my data disks, which is far from ideal as.

Any clarity on this would be appreciated.  I don't want to go down a path of $700 and a lot of time if the result is not good.

    Hi Jeff_Elucidate,

You can install Windows 7 on external hard drive ESATA. Plugin from the player to your computer, go to the BIOS and make sure the ESATA drive is set as the default device to start. And during the installation of Windows 7 to install the necessary drivers and you must have your Windows 7 installed on drive ESATA.

  • AutoRun tries to start the disk external eSATA after KB971029 has been installed

After that February 9, 2011 Windows updates have been installed, my external drive eSATA would show a light continuous activity started about 40% of the time.  Reboots would normally work okay.

I found that update KB971029 posted a few days later, which appeared to address this problem.  I installed it, and startups were normal until this morning, when the activity light has appeared once more.

If this problem has really been resolved?

I've been watching closely since the latest Windows updates have been installed on my computer on March 9 and 10.  The problem with my eSATA disk has not appeared since then, and I could stop the system overnight, with a reboot every morning.

I have to take it for granted that, somewhere in these updates, the problem has been corrected.

    Thank you for your patience.

To replace the 80 GB with a new 160 GB, I attached the 160 to a basket swap, then connected via a USB port. I used EaseUS Partition Master 9.2.2 to clone the 80 to 160 new, then exchanged out them. When I tried to boot into windows 8, I got an error saying the system needs to be repaired by using the installation media. I inserted the disc and ran the repair, and it failed. I restarted in 7 and plugged the 80 in the caddy of swap to verify that the files were the same, whether they are. I rebooted again and I tried to start windows 8 (accidentally forgot to unplug the swap caddy) and he tried to start the 80 since the swap caddy. How to configure the Boot Manager to point to the installation partition (same installation) of windows 8 located on 160 GB internal instead of pointing to the 80 GB? I can install windows 7 in Envy DV7-7234 with Windows 8 buth with dual boot: win7 and windows 8?

Installing Windows 7 on your HP ENVY computer Notebook dv7-7234nr is not supported by HP. In addition, no Windows 7 driver is listed on HP Software and Driver Downloads page for your computer.

HP does not recommend installing Windows 7 and it will support the installation of Windows 7 on a computer comes with Windows 8. HP doesn't provide drivers for Windows 7 and the appropriate drivers are not available for the hardware in the computer. In addition, Windows 7 can not support some of the hardware or software designed for the computer.

Make sure you create your media recovery HP or USB Flash Recovery discs before you edit or change anything.

    You will need to DISABLE 'Secure Boot' and ENABLE 'Legacy Support' in the ' settings of BIOS ' settings below page;

Then, start Windows 8 and run the console 'disk management '. Using "Shrink Volume", reducing the size of the "C:" partition about half of its original size. Name of the partition "C:" to something like "Windows 8". Now, start the computer from the Windows 7 DVD, making sure to select "UEFI - internal CD/DVD" or "UEFI - ATAPI CD/DVD ' and not ' Legacy - CD/DVD internal."  (I recommend using a disc of Windows 7 SP1latest drivers have been included in this topic. The use of the SP1 disc usually resolves most disk hard AF and other issues. )

Install Windows 7 on the partition without label that was established earlier when you shrunk the partition "C:". Continue to install WIndows 7 by / responding to all the guests. Once you download Windows 7 on your computer, we have to track down the compatible drivers for it. Please list all the "hardware ID" for unknown or missing devices.

  • Usable memory (RAM) less than the installed memory, showing remove Win7 dual-boot.

Original title: "Memory (RAM): 12,00 GB (3.62 GB usable)", how can I resolve this issue and remove a dual boot Win7?

I recently, after experincing problems (see below the Intel SSD), noticed the system said that there is only a 3.62 GB of Ram available in my computer.  I have this statement ' Installed Memory (RAM): 12,00 GB (3.62 GB usable) "the computer has always used a higher around 10-11 GB amount.

I noticed that the Windows performance index was 5.6, after adding an Intell 240 GB SSD, it jumped to 7.6; However, now with the problems is 5.4, caused by the RAM.

I ran the full memory diagnostics: start-up and verification of memory it says I have 12 GB of RAM can be used across both.  I asked with Asrock if my RAM and CPU compatible before buying it, and they said it was a wise decision for 970 Extreme4 motherboard.  I subsequently has inquired about the Kingston RAM and included information from a - Data, and they said they used Kingston ringout for approval process as with a - DATA, including the compatibility of the different types of RAM used together.  The RAM was tested and is placed on the store of the computer.
This problem did not exist until I installed the Intel SSD.

I don't have a problem with dual boot on my computer after installing a new 7 ultimate on the SSD, and when it worked normally, I atttached the old hd back into your computer, because important data it contains.  This caused a situation of dual-boot.  I did some research and jumped the drive as a slave thinks that it would not cause a problem.  How can I remove Windows 7 from the old hd and then remove the window dual-boot.  I tried the old way to change the startup configuration, however, I can't find it in 7 Ultimate SP1. I also sent the old HD and the start window remained, as the index and the usable Ram 3.62.

    My Questions as already said:
How can I return to a usable 12 GB of RAM and return the highest Index of Exp Win?
How the dual boot can be edited to boot from my SSD without window startup and remove window 7 my old HD eventually without formatting?
