Dual boot Windows Vista and Windows 8

Hello world

I'm having the following problem: I had Windows 7 as primary OS (C drive) and then installed Windows 8 (on drive D) that is of dual boot. Everything was working fine until I decided to remove Windows 7 from the drive C. I have formatted the drive using Acronis Disk Director 11. After the reboot, the computer was not bootable. I had a reistallation DVD of Vista and installed. Now, I have Windows Vista on C and Windows 8 for D drive that is not bootable. My question is how to get rid of Windows 8 without having my computer starts plu?

Thanks in advance,

Peter

Hello

try to start your computer in safe mode on Vista and remove windows 8 in d ' training of formatting it and check if the problem is resolved.

Start your computer in safe mode

http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

If you still have the sam e problem then see below

Try typing F8 at startup and in the list of Boot selections, select Mode safe using ARROW top to go there > and then press ENTER.

Try a restore of the system once, to choose a Restore Point prior to your problem...

Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > system restore > choose another time > next > etc.

See you soon.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If the above does not work, try to make a Bootable ERD to do a Startup Repair:
As is the case with most computers/laptops these days, they do not come with good Vista disc to repair only the recovery disks.
As your grave in the category above, download the ISO on the provided link and do a repair of the disc.
Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.
At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.
When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.
You can make a tool to restart system, System Restore, etc. with it.
Read all the info on the website on how to create and use it.
http://NeoSmart.net/blog/2008/Windows-Vista-recovery-disc-download/
ISO Burner: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/active-isoburner.html
It's a very good Vista repair disc.
You can do a system restart tool, system, etc it restore.
There is not a disk of resettlement.
And the 32-bit is what normally comes on a computer, unless 64-bit.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

You can save your data in Mode safe, ifit loads correctly.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You can only do a upgrade repair facility if the Service Pack on the Vista DVD is not lower than the SP installed, in your case you have installed SP2.
DVD SP level. must be the same or higher to be able to do a repair installation.
Your DVD must be SP2
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Unless you do regular backups, nothng is guaranteed re data.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Data recovery:
1. slave of your hard drive in another computer and read/save your data out there.
2. put your Hard drive in a USB hard drive case, plug it into another computer and read/save from there.
3 Alternatively, use Knoppix Live CD to recover data:
http://www.Knopper.NET/Knoppix/index-en.html
Download/save the file Knoppix Live CD ISO above.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm

Download the Vista software from the link above.

After installing above ISO burning software, right click on the Knoppix ISO file > copy the Image to a CD.

Knoppix is not installed on your PC; use only the resources of your PC, RAM, graphics etc.

Change the boot order in YOUR computer/laptop to the CD/DVD Drive 1 in the boot order.

Plug a Flash Drive/Memory Stick, BOOT with the Live CD, and you should be able to read the hard drive.

When the desktop loads, you will see at least two drive hard icons on the desktop (one for your hard drive) and one for the USB key.

Click on the icons of hard drive to open and to understand which drive is which.

Click the icon for the USB drive and click on "Actions > Change the read/write mode" so you can write to disk (it is read-only by default for security reasons).

Now to find the files you want to back up, just drag and drop them on the USB. When you're done, shut down the system and remove the USB key.

  • Re: Tecra S11 - Dual boot Windows 7 and XP

    I installed Windows 7 (from the hidden to the hardrive recovery section) on my new Tecra S11. I would like to know if I can use the Windows XP
    recovery media provided by Toshiba to create a dual boot Windows 7/Windows XP rather than go back to XP?

    Hi dualboot.

    As far as I know it of not possible to create a dual boot with XP and Windows 7 Toshiba Recovery disk. The problem is that the recovery disk erases the entire HARD disk, so there is no option to create a dual boot with another operating system.

    If you want XP too you need to a normal XP installation disk Microsoft or you use virtualization of Windows 7 XP mode, if some n t applications run on Windows 7. ;)

  • How much better the partition of the HARD drive for dual boot: Windows 8 and Linux

    Hello

    I am a newbie in Windows 8, linux, Partition...

    I want to use my new laptop with windows 8 pre-installed on the following:

    Create a Dual Boot Windows 8 / Ubuntu
    Create on my drive C (single disk on my laptop):

    * a partition for the system
    * one for Windows 8
    * one for data and
    least for Ubuntu OS

    My goal is:

    -to install VmWare on Windows 8 and run Splat Checkpoint with virtual machines to make the FCTC laboratories.

    to install GNS3 on Ubuntu for CCNP Labs but with GNS3 to access the files in the data partition

    I have a Toshiba Satellite with 750 GB and 8 GB of RAM.

    According to you, what is the best size for my scores?
    Is there a better way to partition my C drive on my goal?

    Best regards

    I don't know if this is the right section, sorry for that. Feel free to move this thread in the appropriate section *.

    I think the size of partitions depends of the you want to use and install other software.
    So if you have a lot of software which runs under the Windows System I recommend to choose a larger size to win 8 partition.

    However, given that you have a 750 GB HARD drive, you could take 200GB for Win 8, 100 GB to Linux and the rest of the HARD drive size, that you can use for data.

  • CMT Compaq dc7100 Dual Boot, Windows 7 Pro and XP Pro

    Tile: CMT Compaq dc7100 Dual Boot, Windows 7 Pro and XP Pro

    Hello everyone.  My computer is adjustable having the dual boot with Windows 7 Pro on disk 0 (320 GB SATA Seagate Barracuda 7200.11) and XP Pro disk 1 (40 GB SATA Samsung SP0411C). As the two systems are available at the start but most all the time Windows 7 Pro would use. The computer is Compaq 7100, WCL PP255US, 3.2 GHZ Intel Pentium 4, 3 GB of ram, Council ch h 0968, bios HP 78 1 v01.05 16/06/2004, chip Intel 915 G Express.  According to the website of Seagate Barracuda 320 GB with (quote), ' he not there no master/slave because every player relationship is considered to be a master in a relationship from point to point.» If two drives are connected to a Serial ATA host adapter, the host operating system considers that the two devices as if they were the two "masters" on two ports separated. Both drives behave as if they were device 0 (master) devices.  On the drive Samsung (SP0411C) I put a jumper for master, it is connected to the motherboard instead of disk 1. Used rider illustrated for Samsung SP0411N since I did not see the SP0411C listed. When selecting information for Samsung Seagate site sometimes showed data for their readers. This is perhaps due to the recent acquisition of Samsung or maybe my mistake.  Tried swapping around wiring of each drive but that didn't work of course. Looked at the settings in the BIOS but did not see a way to create the dual boot.  Please let me know if you need more information. If you know how this can be done or have some suggestions, please let me hear it. As always, thank you very much for your comments.

    Oscar

    Hello oscarmint, I checked the specifications of your system and it does not show the system supports two types of hard drives.

    The system supports only Serial ATA (Sata) synchronous Maximum 150 MB/s transfer rate

    You would need to make the jumper on the Seagate 320 GB Sata Drive pin, set at 150 MB/s.

    You are right that the Seagate would not Cable Select or slave settings and it would be the master and only on cable.

    If the 40 GB hard drive is a type of ATA (IDE), you'd better put as selection of cables (CS).

    Not longer than the partitioning of the HARD drive and install XP - actually quite a bit more fast I should think and gives you the ability to move from one OS to the other without having to reboot the machine. • Dual Boot windows Linux 8.1 on Pavilion 17-e157eo

    Will there be a completely safe way for a dual-boot Windows 8.1 and Linux on a Pavilion 17-e157eo?

    I searched the dualboot topics, but solutions do not seem to apply in this case.  Secure boot has been disabled. Quick start has been disabled. In this PC disk partitions are not dynamic but simple.

    Starting from a Live Linux DVD results in a blank screen even if the DVD player is clearly read something.  Is the problem due to the fact that this PC has the INTEL 4600 graphics chip and an AMD Radeon 8670 M?

    A better solution would be to use VMware or VirtualBox, set up a Linux guest operating system, the host system is of course Windows 8.1?

    No problem, glad I could help. If you could mark one of my posts with an acceptable Solution and congratulations if this information was useful, it would be much appreciated and it would be useful to other institutions. Thank you and have a great day!

  • Remove dual-boot windows partitions 8

    Hi, I have a Hp probook 4530 s with windows 7 64 bit and I want to dual-boot windows 8 but I have the authorized maximum of partitions and I bought the recovery disc for windows 7 so I don't no if I should remove the recovery partition or the tools of hp, hp is pretty much empty is only using 1 mb to 5 GB , but I've heard that there a few updates to the BIOS, so safely remove one of these parties (recovery, tools, or both) to dual-boot windows 8?

    What I do is get a 3 TB external hard drive, or a size larger than your 500 GB. Create a widnows system repair disc 7. Use Macrium reflect free, all partitions (snapshot of the disk) backup, delete the ones that aren't needed. Tools and recovery are not necessary (but you should keep a copy so that you can go back to where you are now). The first partition contains startup information so don't get ride of that one. But even if you did and only restored the great OS partition, you could always use the system repair disc, do a startup repair and replace the boot on this single partition files and you're on your way again (it's just an extra step).

    After you remove the 2 partitions have not yet enough space to install windows 8. Go to disk management in windows 7 and shrink the partition and create a new partition in the remaining space.

  • Dual Boot Windows?

    I have a dual boot Windows 7 and Windows 8. I was wondering if I could increase the size of the space of hard disk for Windows 8?

    There are 333 GB of space available for Windows 7 and 20.8 GB available for Windows 8.
    I would like to know if its possible to increase space for Windows 8?

    You must use a third-party tool such as Easeus Partition Master Home Edition - http://download.cnet.com/Easeus-Partition-Manager-Home-Edition/3000-2248_4-10863346.html

    This will allow you to resize the boot partition by dragging the button to allocate the extra space for Windows 7 or Windows 8.

    Attention, create a recovery for Windows 7 and Windows 8 disk before doing this:

    The easiest way is to use the DualBoot Pro.  He has the tools to write the necessary code automatically.  It is excellent for managing the tasks you want to do.

    However, you have a potential license problem.  Even if your Dell has the exact code in the BIOS to activate the copy of Windows on the hard drive of your wife, the computer is only allowed for an OEM copy.  If Dell is back after repairs then you should be OK once you have turned on the hard disk in his computer of your wife. You can delete the entry of additional start with DualBoot Pro menu,
