Dual boot with two hard drives

Have a Seagate 250 GB SATA drive (drive C) running Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 2. I installed a second hard drive Seagate 500 GB (drive D) and cloned drive C, using the software Seagate of cloning. All right.

I put the boot sequence in the BIOS to get the D drive before drive C. Alàs, the system ignores the D drive and boots in the drive c (the only way I can start in drive D is to physically unplug the drive C).

How can I implement a system dual boot so that I could choose at will which drive I want to use.

Any help will be appreciated.

Short answer: you can't do that. Maybe if you have two hard disks (I tried didn't) but as much as I know your SP L40 has only one.

Time Machine backup to a sparsebundle.

The sparsebundle will use the share name of computer. So, it should be obvious who is your Macbook and that is your Macpro.

Open the sparsebundle in Finder and keep open the subfolders until you get to the backup of each separate hard drive...

You has of course set the exclusion in Time Machine?

By default, Time Machine will exclude your second drive unless you have included it. Did you?

Once you get to this level during the backup, you can do a full restore manually whenever you want.

  • Windows Dual Boot of 2 hard drives.

I recently had a problem with my hard drive, so I bought a new one and installed Windows 7 from my backup disks that I created when I bought this PC a year ago.  The problem is that we have some programs that were downloaded and executed on the old disk.  I was able to get the old disk to be readable, so I would like to turn on a dual boot see if programs/files are still present.

What suggestions do you have?  -Thank you.

Even if your were able to 'Dual Boot' you can't move your programs on the old drive and expect them to run correctly. You must reinstall the programs and move the data files associated with these programs, then the old drive to the new drive.

If you want to keep trying to dual boot I suggest that you create a backup of your new disk image before you start.

Another option is to connect to your old drive (delete the new disk first) and if Windows 7 is still bootable, create a backup of the Image of the old drive on an external USB disk, remove the old drive, connect the new drive and install the same image backup software. You can then use the backup image software to "Mount" your old drive as virtual disk.

  • Satellite P300 with two hard drives

    Hi all

I have a Satellite P300 1 9, which seems to have two hard drives of 250 GB. A (Hitachi) is partitoned 'Vista C and E Data' and the other (Toshiba) is listed as drive had ' which is empty. If I right click on anything, say a document, and select ' send to ' I don't have the option to send to the D drive. How to store data on this drive?

    Thank you

    cheven.

If your laptop has two hard disks, it clearly appears in Windows Explorer.
The first HARD disk is divided into two partitions, and on the second partition, which belongs to the first HARD drive, you will see folder HDDRecovery (do not remove the second HARD drive).

Deleting files is the same as on the withdrawal between the two partitions. It is the WXP/Vista basic know-how.

  • Satellite C75-A-13 q - no boot with new HARD drive

    Hello world

    I have a strange problem...
The crash of hard disk internal down. I mounted the hard drive on other PCs, no access, not detected in the bios... RIP.
It is the starting point of my problem.
So, I decide to replace the hard drive. a new is detected by the bios, everything beautiful, but...
I couldn't start on USB, CD/DVD or hdd internal I prepared before (installation of linux don't care to change the host pc).
Of course, I disabled the BIOS Secure Boot option.

So my question is: is there a relationship between the original hard drive and the start feature? How to solve this?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hello

As much as I know there is no any type of relationship between original HARD disk and the start feature.
You can exchange the HARD drive or enhance it with SSD but so long BIOS recognized new peripheral, you should be able to install the new OS.

I upgraded the machine y with SSD and installed original picture of recovery without any problem.

What model of laptop do you have?
Have you tried to install the original recovery image using recovery media created?

  • How do I set up a dual boot Vista and XP with 2 hard drives?

Dual boot Vista and XP with 2 hard drives

I tried to get my computer has a separate hard drive put in place that lets me run Windows XP or Windows Vista. I tried the path of the CMD, but I could do things wrong with that because the news NTLDR appeared much too different info from Vista. Currently, I have deleted this change to the startup configuration. I want to know what I have to do to get these two to be able to boot. I noticed problems similar to mine, but the answer always seems to be a software that would cost me money.

    Thank you

    Tevans95

    Hello Tevans95,

You cannot install two different operating systems on two different disks. For a dual-boot environment, you must install both XP and Vista on the same drive with different partitions.

In addition, you must install Windows XP first and then Windows Vista.

You can check the items below which will give you information on Dual boot.

    Install multiple operating systems (multiboot)

    Set up a dual-boot system

Change the default operating system for startup (multiboot)

There is no software that can help you to install XP and Vista on different drives.

  • I want to install a second hard drive in my laptop (mSata SSD), so do I create a system dual boot with the same license Windows on each disc.

    Original title: Dual Boot Laptop

I want to install a second hard drive in my laptop (mSata SSD), I have two programs to install that "do not receive the", so I can create a system dual boot with the same license Windows on each disc. I can run only one at a time, and it's the same pc/laptop.

No, you can't, a second facility would be like installing on a second computer, you will need to purchase a second license.

  • Dual boot with Vista-XP on two discs

I just bought A200-S01-PC and I want to dual boot with Windows XP Home edition, Vista is pre installed and I want to install Windows XP Home edition on my second drive, so I can use it for College next year.

I tried to boot from the CD but I get an error saying that it cannot find any installed readers.

    Please I need help?

    Hello

I don't think you can install OS second on the second HARD drive and I don't really know if this second HDD can be used as a boot device. I really don't know, but you can check it yourself. My A200 has a HARD disk only.

But what you can do for yourself is to install Windows XP Home edition on the second partition of the first HARD drive. There is no problem and I did the same thing on my laptop.

But back to drive HARD invisible. This has nothing to do with the dual-boot. Plese check this thread. You will find nice discussion how to install WXP when the HARD drive is not visible.

    Bye and good luck!

  • (Redirected) Cannot boot from the HARD drive on dell n5010 with SSD and HARD drive installed

I have my old dell n5010 (15R Inspiron) with SSD (Samsung EVO 840 120 G) installed on the main drive Bay and the HDD (Samsung HJJ 500 G) on the optical drive Bay.

It is a typical way to add an SSD on such an old laptop (bought from dell.com.cn in 2011).

My Windows 10 operating system has been installed on the SSD using Samsung Data Migration software, so the previous C drive was pointless. So I formatted and installed an operating system Ubuntu 14.04 on it, hoping the grub OSs double beginning located on the HARD disk.

However, I find no the Dell bios boot option to boot from the HARD drive installed in my optical drive Bay. All the choices are 'Hard Drive', 'Network' and 'Diagnostic '.

But I was definitely sure that my bios program has detected the SSD and HDD with information on the main menu of the bios.

And the LED on the optical drive Bay was immediately once I pressed the Start button on my laptop.

As a general rule, all things were right except for options of the bios boot.

Is there a way I can boot from HDD (with installed Ubuntu) while remaining has my SSD on the main drive Bay? I don't want to swap their positions, because the SSD is super fast on the main drive Bay.

I have alse won't migrate 10 Windows to the HARD drive and reinstall Ubuntu on the SSD, because I'd like my windows be loaded quickly.

Someone at - it the same problem with me?

    Any suggestion is appreciated!

  • How to create a dual boot with Vista installed on my Satellite U400?

    Hello

I just bought a U400 - 17 H with vista installed on the HARD drive. I would like to create a dual boot with XP Pro.

I have only a drive HARD aleady with 2 partitions (1 for vista) + 1 for data.
I want to cut the partition vista in two 2 pieces to install XP Pro.
At the end I'll have 3 partitions 1 vista (65 MB), 1 xp (65 MB) and 1 data (125 MB).

Is it easily to create a new partition ok (I guess only on vista)
but is there a program dedicated to install another OS and create a dual boot.

Please help me because I like many things the other way around. I'm sure it's possible, but what are the right process to have at the end of two BONES and the choice at the start of the laptop

    Thank you
    Gerard

    Hello!

Create a new partition for Windows XP and install it. There is no problem.

After that, you need to restore the Windows Vista boot loader. You can do this with EasyBCD. Install and start the program.
Go to the tab "Add/Remove entries". You will see that there is only one option available in the bootloader of Vista at the moment. In the "Add an entry" section, replace the drive in the menu drop-down of C:\ E:\. Change Type "Windows NT / 2 k/XP / 2 k 3" and the name of "Microsoft Windows XP". Then click on 'Add an entry' and 'save '.
Then go to the "Manage Bootloader" tab make sure "Reinstall the Vista Bootloader" is selected, then click on "write the MBR.

Now you can restart the laptop and you should have a full system dual boot to work.

    Good bye

  • Satellite U940 PSU6VA - Dual boot with Ubuntu based distributions

    _ * My specifications: * _
    * Model: * Toshiba Ultrabook (Satellite PSU6VA - 00S 002 U940)
    * Operating system: * Windows 8.1 x 64 (upgrade of Windows 8 x 64)

I would like to set up my computer to dual boot with Windows 8.1 (x 64) and Zorin OS 9.1 (64-bit).

ZORIN OS is a derivative of Ubuntu which maintains a binary compatibility with Ubuntu i.e. Ubuntu and Zorin use the same drivers and can run the same applications. John Damascene is more or less just Ubuntu with a different desktop environment and some additional preinstalled applications.

So far, I know that I need to disable the QuickStart Windows 8.1. What I have to do something else (for example disable Secure Boot, CSM, etc.)?

In addition, my Ultrabook comes with 2 hard drives: 500 GB HARD drive and a 30 GB SSD. Windows uses the HARD disk for storage and for implementing SSD caching, through technology Intel Rapid Storage Technology. Is it possible to set up John of Damascus to do so (preferably without disabling caching on Windows)?

NOTE: I prefer to do things using graphical interfaces, rather than the CLI. I don't mind given CLI instructions; also just showed me the GUI equivalents if possible. I use the CLI if there is no alternative.

Answer: If you want to dual-boot, do NOT select WSC as preventing Windows to start.
You shouldn't have to disable startup secure either, but I can't promise that. I think that Ubuntu 14 has support for secure boot.

Answer: No, I don't think that there is a way to use the SSD in Zorin without making it unusable for Windows.
    Suggestion - let it be.
