Dual boot XP/Vista laptop. Network works under XP; not in Vista

I installed Vista business on a XP Dell Latitude E5500 as a dual-boot configuration. Everything works just like in XP. But, when I boot with Vista, cannot access any network. It is not one of wifi connections. Watch 'drivers not installed for this device' (Vista) Device Manager for all network devices such as wireless and Ethernet card. If I find drivers for vista for these devices and install them, it won't solve the problem? Will this affect my XP somehow?

Thank you

Sam

You need the Vista drivers.
The operating system XP and Vista are two separate operating systems in a dual boot.

http://support.Dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx

Go to the website of the manufacturer of your computer/notebook > drivers and downloads Section > key in your model number > find the latest Vista drivers for it, if they are available > download/install the.

You will probably need to use XP to download/save the as you will not have a link with Vista > download / save drivers > transfer / install it in Vista.

http://support.Dell.com/support/downloads/DriversList.aspx?c=US&l=en&s=GEN&ServiceTag=&SystemID=LAT_E5500&OS=WLH&OSL=en&CATID=&impid=

Vista 32-bit drivers are available for the Dell link above...

See you soon.

So, how can I configure my computer to ask what os I want to run from the black screen and I have 7 on a virtual machine to play with and what having a vdi with my os to travel around with on a USB?

    Please see the following article with useful information about dual-boot:

    You will not be able to virtualize Windows 7 because the license would be already physically license on the host on a partition.

    Another question, you must make sure that the copy of that school license is not an upgrade. You cannot install an upgrade on a partition or a virtual machine.

    Thanks for any advice.

    The easiest way is to use the DualBoot Pro.  He has the tools to write the necessary code automatically.  It is excellent for managing the tasks you want to do.

    However, you have a potential license problem.  Even if your Dell has the exact code in the BIOS to activate the copy of Windows on the hard drive of your wife, the computer is only allowed for an OEM copy.  If Dell is back after repairs then you should be OK once you have turned on the hard disk in his computer of your wife. You can delete the entry of additional start with DualBoot Pro menu,

  • How to create a dual boot with Vista installed on my Satellite U400?

    Hello

    I just bought a U400 - 17 H with vista installed on the HARD drive. I would like to create a dual boot with XP Pro.

    I have only a drive HARD aleady with 2 partitions (1 for vista) + 1 for data.
    I want to cut the partition vista in two 2 pieces to install XP Pro.
    At the end I'll have 3 partitions 1 vista (65 MB), 1 xp (65 MB) and 1 data (125 MB).

    Is it easily to create a new partition ok (I guess only on vista)
    but is there a program dedicated to install another OS and create a dual boot.

    Please help me because I like many things the other way around. I'm sure it's possible, but what are the right process to have at the end of two BONES and the choice at the start of the laptop

    Thank you
    Gerard

    Hello!

    Create a new partition for Windows XP and install it. There is no problem.

    After that, you need to restore the Windows Vista boot loader. You can do this with EasyBCD. Install and start the program.
    Go to the tab "Add/Remove entries". You will see that there is only one option available in the bootloader of Vista at the moment. In the "Add an entry" section, replace the drive in the menu drop-down of C:\ E:\. Change Type "Windows NT / 2 k/XP / 2 k 3" and the name of "Microsoft Windows XP". Then click on 'Add an entry' and 'save '.
    Then go to the "Manage Bootloader" tab make sure "Reinstall the Vista Bootloader" is selected, then click on "write the MBR.

    Now you can restart the laptop and you should have a full system dual boot to work.

  • Dual boot Windows Vista and Windows 8

    Hello world

    I'm having the following problem: I had Windows 7 as primary OS (C drive) and then installed Windows 8 (on drive D) that is of dual boot. Everything was working fine until I decided to remove Windows 7 from the drive C. I have formatted the drive using Acronis Disk Director 11. After the reboot, the computer was not bootable. I had a reistallation DVD of Vista and installed. Now, I have Windows Vista on C and Windows 8 for D drive that is not bootable. My question is how to get rid of Windows 8 without having my computer starts plu?

    Thanks in advance,

    Peter

    Hello

    try to start your computer in safe mode on Vista and remove windows 8 in d ' training of formatting it and check if the problem is resolved.

    Start your computer in safe mode

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

    If you still have the sam e problem then see below

    Try typing F8 at startup and in the list of Boot selections, select Mode safe using ARROW top to go there > and then press ENTER.

    Try a restore of the system once, to choose a Restore Point prior to your problem...

    Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > system restore > choose another time > next > etc.

    See you soon.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    If the above does not work, try to make a Bootable ERD to do a Startup Repair:
    As is the case with most computers/laptops these days, they do not come with good Vista disc to repair only the recovery disks.
    As your grave in the category above, download the ISO on the provided link and do a repair of the disc.
    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.
    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.
    When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.
    You can make a tool to restart system, System Restore, etc. with it.
    Read all the info on the website on how to create and use it.
    http://NeoSmart.net/blog/2008/Windows-Vista-recovery-disc-download/
    ISO Burner: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/active-isoburner.html
    It's a very good Vista repair disc.
    You can do a system restart tool, system, etc it restore.
    There is not a disk of resettlement.
    And the 32-bit is what normally comes on a computer, unless 64-bit.
    You can only do a upgrade repair facility if the Service Pack on the Vista DVD is not lower than the SP installed, in your case you have installed SP2.
    DVD SP level. must be the same or higher to be able to do a repair installation.
    Your DVD must be SP2
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Unless you do regular backups, nothng is guaranteed re data.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Data recovery:
    1. slave of your hard drive in another computer and read/save your data out there.
    2. put your Hard drive in a USB hard drive case, plug it into another computer and read/save from there.
    3 Alternatively, use Knoppix Live CD to recover data:
    http://www.Knopper.NET/Knoppix/index-en.html
    Download/save the file Knoppix Live CD ISO above.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm

    Download the Vista software from the link above.

    After installing above ISO burning software, right click on the Knoppix ISO file > copy the Image to a CD.

    Knoppix is not installed on your PC; use only the resources of your PC, RAM, graphics etc.

    Change the boot order in YOUR computer/laptop to the CD/DVD Drive 1 in the boot order.

    Plug a Flash Drive/Memory Stick, BOOT with the Live CD, and you should be able to read the hard drive.

    When the desktop loads, you will see at least two drive hard icons on the desktop (one for your hard drive) and one for the USB key.

    Click on the icons of hard drive to open and to understand which drive is which.

    Click the icon for the USB drive and click on "Actions > Change the read/write mode" so you can write to disk (it is read-only by default for security reasons).

    Now to find the files you want to back up, just drag and drop them on the USB. When you're done, shut down the system and remove the USB key.

  • Dual boot with Vista-XP on two discs

    I just bought A200-S01-PC and I want to dual boot with Windows XP Home edition, Vista is pre installed and I want to install Windows XP Home edition on my second drive, so I can use it for College next year.

    I tried to boot from the CD but I get an error saying that it cannot find any installed readers.

    Please I need help?

    Hello

    I don't think you can install OS second on the second HARD drive and I don't really know if this second HDD can be used as a boot device. I really don't know, but you can check it yourself. My A200 has a HARD disk only.

    But what you can do for yourself is to install Windows XP Home edition on the second partition of the first HARD drive. There is no problem and I did the same thing on my laptop.

    But back to drive HARD invisible. This has nothing to do with the dual-boot. Plese check this thread. You will find nice discussion how to install WXP when the HARD drive is not visible.

    Bye and good luck!

  • Dual boot Windows vista 32 bit with win 7 64 bit

    Is it possible to dual boot

    Windows Vista Business 32-bit
    with
    Windows 7 Professional 64 bit
    I do not want I want to have two operating systems
    Now, I have a 25 GB Partion ready for Windows 7, I only have Vista currently.
    Apparently XP32Bit can dual boot with win7 64-bit but can vista 32 bit?
    There will be problems with a Dual Boot Vista/Win7?

    Hello

    You must ensure that 64-bit Windows 7 drivers are available from the manufacturer of your computer for all the hardware, or it will not work properly.

    And is the same for your printer, etc.

    Read this tutorial on dual boot them, including system requirements:

    See you soon.

    p.s. We need a full license of Windows for two operating systems, as upgrade does not here apply.

    EasyBCD to add Windows 7 in the start menu. Note: after you have installed Windows 7, you should have a folder located in the Windows XP partition named C:\Boot (BCD store) that's what Windows 7 and XP boot build to start with. Easy BCD will list each operating system in the BCD store and also allow you to add an additional OS (in your case, Windows 7) and set the default OS after a 30 second delay.

    THE HP PAVILION P/N F9J18UA HAS A RECOVERY PARTITION ON A 500 GB HARD DRIVE. CAN I STILL INSTALL MY WINDOWS 8.1 THROUGH MY RECOVERY PARTION TO THE 2ND PARTITION ON THE HARD DISK THAT IS SHARED WITH A 216 GB AND GB 206 PARTITIONS, AND WHICH ALREADY HAS VISTA ON PARTITION 1 AND THE RECOVERY PARTITION ON THE 3RD PARTITION EARLIER UNDER SILENCE OF ABOUT 75-80 GB?  NOTE: THE HARD DRIVE IS 500 GB W/3 PARTITIONS TOTAL.

    Hi @oz0921

    I saw your post on the use of the recovery partition to install Windows 8.1 on a partition on the same computer. Unfortunately, this won't work as the recovery would target the entire hard drive and format it. To try this you need an installation CD for Windows 8.1.

    Pvscsi. INF file specifically excludes XP but supports Windows 2003.  Like many

    modified.  I'm going to recognize and install the driver, but it does not start. It is possible

    or likely that I have not changed the. INF correctly.

    The inf in the package "VMware Tools.msi" file and can be retrieved using

    UniExtract.   (also other drivers can be extracted and a XP nlite-ed nice)

    I know that XP is EOL this month but thought it might be useful for benchmarking.

    If the storport driver based (as opposed to scsi miniport) it'll work only on XP x 64, storport is not supported under XP x 86.
