Duplicate the application in the "open with" context menu

Hi all

On my iMac, the last OS X El Capitan.

For an example, so I mediainfo application on the app store and it works fine, no problem.

What happens if I go to a video rile, do a right-click, open with... There mediainfo twice, optionally including a version and the other a newer version if instead of upgrading to the new version of its kept the two versions?

So I look under 'Applications' and that is only once not twice.

I click and hold the icon for mediainfo in launchpad, it wiggles, I press x to delete it form party launchpad and its applications in the finder.

But there must be somewhere because he is always right click on the menu 'Open with' and it actually load the program if you choose somehow even if it isn't the disk hard mac! ?.

I did a search and don't see you mediainfo application anywhere on the disc hard mac.

I have a copy of super duper of my HDD on an external hard drive that probably the application it but can it really be getting the external application and adding it to "open with" menu and launch the application from the external hard drive? If yes then this is not cool...

I also noticed right on a PDF right-click, open with Watch 2 entrances of Safari 2 on iBooks, google chrome 2, all are an old version and one is a more recent version, where could he be getting from and the addition in the menu "open with?"

If it is picking up my applications folder on the external drive backup and using that in the open with menu and launch the application from the external backup then it is really bad, it should only be launched from applications to disk hard mac shouldn't it?

Any ideas?

Problem solved by a person post in the Forums of Vista, that what he said in this thread (Thread link: http://www.vistax64.com/general-discussion/202928-open-choose-default-program-error-vista-2.html#post939031 ):

    "PROBLEM SOLVED!"
    HOO HOO!

I want to thank you once again BRINK for ideas on how to solve this problem.
The next step below, this is how I solved this annoying problem:

First of all, I came across this article on the Microsoft Web site by changing my google search to solve the problem. I started the google search with the following:

'open with' lack of context menu

Who brought results with the first being a microsoft link:

Command 'Open with' missing from the context Menu

Now the article didn't tell me exactly how to solve this problem, but it gave me an idea.
He said look at the following reg key:

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Unknown\shell\openas\command

And he said to watch the following default value:

    C:\%windir%\rundll32.exe shell32.dll, OpenAs_RunDLL %1

After that, I noticed that the value was different, but then I noticed in watching the article says that this applies to Windows 95 and 98.
I then looked at the same key on my laptop that is running Vista Ultimate 32 bit also and I noticed there are subfolders on my laptop that my office did not have.
It should look like the following:

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Unknown
    \DefaultIcon
    \+Shell
    \+openas
    \COMMAND
    \+opendlg
    \COMMAND

My office was only the DefaultIcon folder.
Well I just copied the key from my laptop and voila... it worked.
I thank the gods of the computer. This has really been bugging me. I know that some people would have just reconfigured or installed a new but I knew it was an easy fix. I thought it was a reg key or windows dll file, but I just need to find the location where he resided in. Luckily I came across this article which pointed me in the right direction. Now I feel like I accomplished something.

Sorry if this is a bit long but I HATE it when I'm looking for answers in the forums and I see someone say they have solved their problem, but they either don't say anything about how they fixed or that they are so vague that they could didn't say anything.
I hope this helps others if they have this problem.

Thank you once again on BOARD! "

  • Windows 7. How can I remove the Windows media Center programs recommended in the "Open with" section?

I select which application (Word, Excel, etc.), they all open with Windows Media Center. This happened recently and I don't know how to cancel it. I see the Windows Media Center in the 'Open with' box where it asks you to "choose the program you want to use to open this file. How I remove it from the section "recommended programs"? I see that Internet Explorer is also in this section. What should be there as well? What actually belongs to this group?

"I see the Windows Media Center in the 'Open with' box where it asks you to"choose the program you want to use to open this file"." How I remove it from the section "recommended programs"? »

A pretty easy regedit should remove an application from the section "recommended programs". Here is a procedure step by step on how to do it. Unfortunately, I don't think that will solve your problem. What seems actually to have occurred is either your .lnk .exe (or maybe both) have inadvertently been associated with WMC. Out of the list of the programs recommended for the open with dialog box will not change. In fact, the next time that you open the program, it will open in WMC and add automatically return a program recommended in the open with dialog box.

There really should not be whatever it is that you open a .lnk or .exe with because you really don't want to open them... you want to run. To determine if the .lnk or .exe associated with wrong, you can either watch the extension file associations in the control panel > programs, or you can see if it's a shortcut or the actual executable file that does. Need to know who, or if she is at the same time, in order to complete the fix.

Once you know it, this link will show you how to restore the default file type link. Matter of fact, now that I think of it, it wouldn't hurt to just restore default settings for .lnk and .exe.

"I see that Internet Explorer is also in this section. What should be there as well? What actually belongs to this group? " I may be wrong, but I do not believe, you should really see anything in the open with dialog for a .lnk or .exe. Again, you don't want to really not open them... you want to run. The shortcut .lnk file goes to the executable and runs the .exe program.

    Hello

See the following message to solve the problem of .exe if necessary once you are sure that the system is clean.

Try Mode safe mode with networking - repeatedly, press F8 that you start.

The best two methods allow scanners to run and/or AV.exe out of the way or removing.

    1.
CTRL SHIFT ESC - task manager OR right click on the taskbar - task manager

Process tab - complete the process on AV. EXE and continue with the uninstall Guide.

If necessary use start - computer or Windows Explorer to navigate to

C:\Program Malwarebytes Anti - Malware\mbam.exe or where it is installed - if
necessary right click on the shortcut of Malwarebytes - Properties - tab - target line to see where it
    is installed.

Right-click on it and rename it to ZZMbam.COM (or something different than now), then
Double-click it and run it like this. You can rename it back later. Do the same with others
programs as needed. Use this method for other necessary - DO NOT ASSUMER one
program removes all or that there is no other malware.

    ---------------------------------------------------

    2.
Another method is to use them:

Use Process Explorer to "Suspend" the process will not stop

Then use AutoRuns to delete the malicious program startup items.

Now use UnLocker to delete the files in the malware.

  • How can I disable the 'Open with' window that appears whenever I start?

My desktop pc using Windows 7 Home Premium. For years, I want to start with nothing default opening. Each time, the choice of what to open were made manually by me.

For some reason that I don't understand, one day after start-up, this 'Open with' window appears. Under "Choose the program you want to use to open this file," the indicated file was my name. (I replaced the one here with the word "Me.")

I never asked this window will open after startup. It appeared for the first time without having done me anything. I do not think that I have all the files with my first name only, so I closed the window and ignored.

But the window open whenever I start. Don't need or want to be, I keep closing and ignore him.

Soon, not one, but two of the pop-up appeared. Then THREE.

For several years, the three windows double as above appeared whenever I start.

Don't know how or why it began. Don't know which program is causing it. Don't know how to stop it.

Anyone recognize this window? Do you know which program is causing it to appear after startup? Do you know how to disable? Is there a trick to disable three of them?

    (1) is the window 'Open with' above now a default pop-up window after startup that cannot be disabled without the registry editor?

No, the "open with" isn't a local default value.  You see it because something - probably malware - tried to configure your computer to start a process at startup time.  Windows, however, does not recognize the name of the process (i.e. the file name) as an executable program so it asks you to specify which program to use to open the file.

No, you don't need to manually edit the registry to resolve this problem.

    (2) there is no program in Control Panel I can open that has a simple toggle to turn it on or off?

    • Click the start ORB, all programs and then scroll down until you find "Startup" and click on it.
    • If you see that anything that gets filed that you do not want to start when you log on to "Start", right click and delete.
    • If you do not know what the items listed and are reluctant to delete something you don't understand not (a very good policy to follow), list all the elements in your next reply and someone here will try to advise you.

    B. the way a little harder (that almost always works)

    • Download here Autoruns.zip (this course is that you download from a Microsoft web site)--> http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx
    • Right-click on the downloaded file and select "extract all".
    • Go to the folder where the extracted files are located (this should have been opened for you by default), and then double-click on autoruns.exe
    • Wait until the program has finished scanning (look at the bottom left corner) and then select the 'connection '.
    • Look in the column titled 'Image path' for a line that includes whatever it is that appeared as the 'file' in the original pop-up window.
    • If you find a line with the same name in there, uncheck the box at the left end of the line, close Autoruns and restart your computer.
      • If the ToolTip no longer displayed, you can (a) do nothing do or Autoruns (b) re - run, find the line you're not controlled and right click > delete it.
    • If you cannot find a line with the name you're looking for...
      • Click on the "all" tab
      • Click file, and then click search, then enter the name and click "next".
        1. If a line is found, right click and select 'copy '.
        2. Paste the line in your next reply here
        3. Press F3 to find the next instance and repeat steps 1 and 2 until no more bodies are found (if there are several rows, you can open a Notepad window and paste the lines temporarily here)
        4. If you are reluctant to publish anything with your name in it, change the lines to replace your name
