  Thank you.  I'll do it and change my Windows Update settings.  BUT, FYI, in an act even more incredible, the same night I posted my question here, my computer was said upload, and I was still in place at 03:00 (when Windows is set to d/l and install updates).  I went to the kitchen for a bit and returned to my computer to find a countdown - he downloaded updates and "will re-start in 7 minutes" or so and counting down...   If you perform a "clean" of Windows 7 Home Premium installation, you will need to buy Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.  Someone else using Windows 7 disk is not allowed under the terms of the license Microsoft Softrware.

  You can contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks.

  They should do this for a small fee.
