  I bought a Dynabook PX / 410DL to Japan a year ago. In the beginning, everything went well. For three months, he began to experience difficulties playing DVDs and burning them now.   Have you tried to uninstall the dvd via the Device Manager drive then restart PC to see if Windows reinstalls? You can do it. If the problem is still there, can give a try? It is a quick easy fix from Microsoft, here is the link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060. You need to uninstall all third-party software (example: Roxio, Nero, or iTunes) from your computer before you make this correction. After you restart, you can reinstall your software and try again to see if that solves your problem. Otherwise, it could be a bad optical drive. Hope this helps you. Let us know anyway.   I have not used my DVD player for some time. In the meantime, I upgraded my hard drive to SSD (using AHCI) and upgrading windows to win7 64bits (new installation, no upgrade).

  I'm not sure if the drive worked on the new facility, but today, I had to burn a CD and burning software cd has reported that it has no installed burner. I checked in Device Manager and I saw that the DVD player has a yellow icon next. Software driver update did not help.

  I also noticed that the IDE controller is not correctly installed. Software driver update did not help (I copied the original CD on MemoryStick OSB and tried to find the driver there too). But whenever I restart the computer it has a new name at random in front of IDE controller.

• CD/DVD/Blu Ray, failing to detect/read blu ray discs

  This is my first post, so please be patient with me

  I have a Sony vaio laptop, the model name is VPCEG16FM

  I've already restored to factory settings some days and everything is up-to-date and running smoothly. Except that... the Blu Ray disc player? DVD/CD works fine, but when I insert a Blu Ray disc, he jumps like two or three times and is unable to read. When I first bought this laptop of course all worked well but it's just darn blu - ray disc player and listen the * out of me. Some of my solutions was of course, restore to factory setting and a complete update of downloads. Then, after reading a few other blog posts, I've also tried going to the Device Manager and uninstall the cd/dvd drive and then restarting my computer. Reinstall it successfully on its own when restart the laptop but again, only the * blu ray disks are not read. My friend tried, also, what we call the function restore drivers?  But it seemed very pointless lol... IM starting to think that the drive is actually just broken but if yes then would be not DVD and CD not work as well? Please Sony community! you are my last hope!

  Just watched this.

  The vmreconfig.pl script does not handle the case of a device not defined in the VirtualIDEController object array.

  Look like the real device table is not defined until an IDE device is actually connected (or when a new IDE device is added).  I'm not 100% sure of what generates the actual peripheral table off the coast of the VirtualIDEController, but the case of a table of undefined device should be handled in the script to reconfigure.

  I can see the two solutions here, first write a custom script that adds the CDROM and manages this one-off case.  Then, modify the vmreconfig.pl script to handle this particular case of a painting of the disconnected device.

  In VMUtil.pm, you will find line number 929:

  My = $unitNumber $# {$controller-> device} + 1;

  This is to change:

  My = $unitNumber (set $controller-> device)? $# {$controller-> device} + 1:0;

  There may be other cases in the VMUtil.pm module that needs to be updated as well.  For this reason, it may be better to just write your own custom tool.  However, the simple correction above may let you go ahead with your project in the short term.

  The drive seems to be written the drive normally until the end when it fails, then there is no visible trace on the disc and the machine will always be recognizes it as empty.

  Which app to use for writing to the disc?

  To be honest I have think don firmware t update will change anything. I assume that there must be a problem with the calibration of the lens.
