  If your hardware is not detected to upgrade to Windows 7 is not a resolution. This issue may be caused if the DVD drive is faulty or connections loose on the mother board. You may need to check the connections. I suggest you check if the DVD drive works on another computer. You can contact the manufacturer of your computer to help you with this problem.

  I just posted this question a few hours before, but it seems to have disappeared from the forum, so go again us.

  When I use the Toshiba Software to play a DVD, I get no image, although the interface commands and the sound is very good. The DVD player is fine when I use Windows Media player. This problem suddenly started a few days ago.

  Surely, it is a software problem, as the DVD player would not work with Windows Media Player otherwise. However, I wonder why the software would suddenly stop working.

  A .lnk file is a standard shortcut in Windows. The shortcuts are very often placed on the desktop, or in a control panel application such as Windows Start menu Launcher.

  Looks like that file Associations may be corrupted on your system.

  Unfortunately it's probably :-(. You can try to remove the optical drive and then reinsert it into Notepad, and then marketing and see if it is recognized as a new device.

  Check also that it is not displayed in Device Manager and if it is remove before trying the above.

  I'm having serious problems here. My CD/DVD-ROM drive is not detected and will not answer. I can ONLY open the drawer at the beginning of my computer laptop startup.   Try to manually open the CD/DVD drive.
  Near the eject button, you will find a small hole.

  You can use a small object like staple and could push gently into this hole.

  Usually, this should help to open the drive manually.

  If the DVD-ROM does not appear in Device Manager, try the following:

  Windows key + S > type cmd.exe , and then right click on cmd.exe and select 'run as administrator '.

  Then, at the command prompt, type the following (you can copy and paste) and press "enter":

  Reg.exe add "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0" / f/v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001
