DVD players no longer work.

I was removing a program, and now I've lost the use of two of my DVD burners. In Device Manager, I got a yellow! on both discs and code 41. I followed the instructions to remove Upper and Lower filters now the! has disappeared, but they will still not read a cd. There is always an upper and lower Filter.bak file, but the instructions said that they should not be removed. When I put a CD in the drive starts the Autorun and CD turns but is only it works. If I do one explores on the disc, it comes in white as if nothing is on the CD. At this point, I'm at a loss on how to get my readers in working condition. I also tried a files system, but that also failed.

I ended up removing all my software CD (Roxio and Pinnacle instant DVD) writing this solves the problem. Everything is now back to normal.

    Hello

For a new disk that should really be fixed/replaced under warranty.

You have disk problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD & DVD burning and)
Playback of CD and DVD). So it is not unusual for parts from 1 or 2 to not work so that others do
    correctly.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You can try these but it seems that the drive has a hardware problem.

Step 1: Please do all the same underneath if you did some before as is often total
a process that solves the problem.

Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double click on the device - driver tab.
Click on update drivers (this will probably do nothing) - RIGHT click ON the drive - uninstall.
RESTART this will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue
    below.

Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a coward
cable or slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.

  • Portege R500 - CD/DVD drive no longer works

Does anyone found a resolution to this?

Like David, my DVD Multidrive on my R500 abruptly arrested recently - I can open/close the player, but he does not appear in Windows Explorer as a disk is valid. Do not think that I have nothing installed on the machine.

Interestingly, I never really use the DVD player. Indeed, because of all the * heat * questions, I used to "Power Off" of the device, via the DVD icon in the system tray (i.e. option enabled me to Power on / off the unit). So while the power was OFF, it's cold the machine, and so the fan was rarely on.

Now that my computer no longer recognizes the drive, this icon it simply shows that disabled, no possibility to the power on/off switch, and this noisy fan is almost always on. In addition, because it seems that the machine tries to recognize the drive subject time at startup, all re-start, reboot the machine now takes a few minutes to start...

For the optical drive firmware update help? Or is there some other fix?

    Hello

    > but my Portege R500 CD/DVD drive has stopped working the next day, I had attached an external CD - RW drive for me to burn discs. Maybe it did disable my built-in drive?
    This could be the key;
Try to access the Device Manager and remove the CD/DVD player listed and all USB host controllers and USB root hub.

    Again, restart the laptop.
After new check restart if the CD/DVD drive has been recognized again.

    Hello

Have you checked if the CD/DVD drive you purchased is a recordable disc? If this is the case, there should be an indication (e.g., CD-RW/DVD-RW). You can also check for the indication Device Manager.

If you have confirmed that it is indeed able to write on the discs, then try to activate the IMAPI. To do this please see the instructions below.

    1. click on start

    2. click on run

3 type "services.msc" (without the quotes)

    4. in the window that opens, you select IMAPI

    5. right-click on it and select "Properties".

Having too many CD/DVD programs can cause strange problems, especially if they're loading of parts of them.

If a yellow exclamation point appears in the device, close the USB hubs\controller Manager, then a USB driver problem would be possible.
In most cases, a new installation of USB might help to get rid of this annoying problem of USB.

-Remove and disconnect all external USB devices that are connected to the laptop.
-Go to the Device Manager and remove the USB hubs and USB controllers.
    -reboot the machine.

New OS reboot should reinstall USB drivers, and the operating system should recognize the USB ports again. After this short intervention, connect the external USB CD. DVD player and check if it would show up in my computer
