DVD ROM plays orread cd or dvd

I have windows vista and I have the same problem as the other guy, my dvd rom doesn't read or play cd or dvd but windows recognizes readers and says it's working properly, when I go into the event log it say cd rom 1 has a bad block, what I can do, I've tried everything I can think of.

Hi osandman47,

What is the brand and model of the computer? What is a custom or a branded computer?

If it is a brand we recommend to search for the drivers for the CD/DVD drive on the manufacturer's website, download the drivers and install the latest. Also suggest you check if the computer is capable of running Vista on it and if all the devices have drivers to function effectively in Windows Vista updated.

I hope this helps!

You probably do not have the adequate software. This isn't for lack of the drive if you don't have the appropriate software that can open DVD movies. In my view, that the latest version of Windows Media Player has this ability. Try WMP and open the DVD player.

  • Can Windows 95 CD-Rom played on Vista, be done?

This is probably a stupid question to you all techies, but I have a CD of Spanish built for Windows 95, is there a way I can play on my laptop that came with Vista? When I put in it says "this file does not a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set associations Control Panel", then he said:"the installation program is unable to run a program needed to proceed with the installation, please reboot your system. Any advice?

Well, it's probably autostart. But if you go to the directory of the CD-ROM (right click on the CD icon in Explorer and click on "Explore"), is there a demand?

Could you maybe put the content of the "Autostart" file (if there is) and a list of directories from the cdrom? For the latter, run cmd and type dir F:
and press enter (replace F with the letter of your cdrom drive, most likely, it is ), and then copy the result (right click-> "Mark", mark the result and press Ctrl and C) and post it here.

I hope that someone can help you then.

  • DVD PLAYER CAN'T READ DVD MEDIA IN THE STUDIO HYBRID DESKTOP

You will appreciate the help a lot about this question. I have the desktop studio hybrid 140G. For the past few weeks the cd/dvd drive rom played inconsistent dvd media files. But since last week it has completely stopped playing DVD media. Although it opens the audio cd and dvd software installation files. I updated the dvd player but the problem persists. On the control panel if I check the current status of the dvd player, it shows - works correctly. I am running windows vista and the cd/dvd rom drive is TSSTcorp DVD +-RW TS - T633A ATA Device. Hopefully, there is a solution for this that I am running out of ideas. I run Dell diagnostics. in the end, it's show "a few problems identified but diagnosis impossible to find a solution; No DVD disc not recognized. "

  • NTLDR missing after XP Pro install attempt.

    Hey

I'm trying to set up a mini PC for my carputer project. I started using a USB CD-ROM for initial installation. It went well, so he came up with errors and is stopped and restarted. It came then with NTLDR missing. I did some research and thought it might be the CR ROM play up. So I plugged a different rom using the IDE connectors. I started the installation again. He has crossed all the stages, not the format, and then began to load the files. At half way through then just tt once again restarted itself. Now when it gets to the screen of BOOT, and when "boot from CD" appears, the machine restarts just all the time. When I remove the installation disc comes with the NTLDR missing. I'm really into the arms of this problem. I'm really appreciate some advice and help please.

    Thanks in advance!

  • Whenever I have to play the game, I have to insert the disc 2 in my DVD ROM despite installing the game on my hard drive.

    Hello

Whenever I have to play the game, I have to insert the disc 2 in my DVD ROM despite installing the game on my hard drive.
Can someone help me with a cure for this (IE run the game without the CD?) I can run Microsoft Flight simulator without inserting the DVD in my DVD-rom.

original title: query on Microsoft Train Simulator 2001

I suspect that the game has Digital Rights Management in there (i.e., copy protection) and it checks for you ensure that you physically have the disc so that he knows that you are not a thief.  Many providers of game assumes that you are a thief and you prove that you're not demanding that the disc is in the DVD player when the game takes place.  What I do is to use a program like Alcohol 52%, a free program that can make a copy of a DVD/CD and include in the image copy protection so that you can use a DVD player virtual to mount the image file instead of having the real DVD mounted in a real drive.

Try following the steps under "Windows XP" in the article following the MS KB:

These measures, to remove the UpperFilters and LowerFilters, values if they exist, in the registry key named can help.

Create a System Restore Point beforehand and restart the computer later.

  • My recently downloaded Windows Media Player 11 play dvd, audio cd and cd rom, but will not recognize two photos of the dvd which have been able to acknowledge by Media Player 10 and record of the Explorer Windows-with some difficulty

    1. Windows Media Player 10 has opened a photo successfully dvd but a message "Microsoft has encountered a problem and needs to close" came on the screen several times.  Had to re insert the dvd picture, but it would open again each time.
    2. Tried the cd drivers and troubleshooting dvd and was informed of my dvd could not be played because there was no decoder for dvd.  Following instructions and chose a windows xp approved decoder pack download - dvd has chosen the Roxio CinePlayer DVD Decoder Pack.
    3. Then upgraded the media player to Windows Media Player 11.
    4. After that, dvd and cd rom could be opened by the media player 11, but neither the DVD or cd ROM readers would recognize the photo DVD in question had been inserted into one of these discs, and even less to be opened by the media player.
    5. Program scanner and photo used to transfer my photos printed digitally on a dvd are trademarks of Hewlett-Packard.  Contact the center of the photo, but they could not provide me with any guidance or even particular HP photo program they used to create the dvd picture.  I remember the photos were stored on the dvd in JPEG format picture and was able to open by Windows Explorer before I've updated since WMP 10-11.

"" I remember well, the pictures are stored on the dvd in JPEG format picture and was able to open by Windows Explorer before I've updated since WMP 10-11 ""

Looks like you have a data dvd, which has just the pictures on it and it will not be seen by WMP, who needs a dvd-video disc.

It should always open in windows Explorer and you should be able to see your pictues it.

  • Samsung DVD - ROM SD - 616E driver will not play DVDs in Windows xp sp3 Home Edition

Dear supporters, Im having problems playing movies on my Samsung DVD - ROM SD-616E installed on my Windows XP SP3 Home Edition Dell Dimension 2350..., a box of lil in the center of my watch windowsmedia player a message saying no compatible dvd decoder is not installed? Help, please? thanx.

FWIW... Win XP cannot natively recognize Commercial
DVD video... it requires a DVD decoder.

If you could play before commercial video DVD...
do a system restore to a time before this started
    may be your solution.

Or you could buy a DVD decoder at the following link:

(FWIW... it's always a good idea to create a system)
Restore point before installing software or updates)

    Info about DVD decoders:
    Plug-ins for Windows Media Player

Or you can download and use one of the following freeware
    media players:

    VLC Media Player

    (works on XP/Vista/7)

    Media Player Classic Home Cinema

    (works on XP/Vista/7)

Or... you can try to download and install one of the
    Following codec packs.

(FWIW... it is always preferable, if you create a system restore
point before installing any software or updates).
