DVD-ROM RW reads but won't write

I installed Windows 7 64 bit and now dvd - rom do not burn anything. She appeared in as a work Device Manager. I've updated the drivers but still nothing. I uninstalled the controllers ata so they would reinstall on restart, but nothing. I also tried to install a third-party application, Nero, but it doesn't. Looks like he sees reading but not writing skills. It will read whatever it is, previously burned CDs, DVDs, commercial CDs and DVDs. It burned very well when he was an XP SP3 machine so not sure what happened. To all, any help is greatly appreciated and I thank you in advance.

  • Re: Satellite A200 - DVD player can read but cannot write

    Hello

Some time ago my DVD writter has stopped working. I have Windows 7 with the latest toshiba drivers.

The DVD is very good playback of the inserted cd/dvd, the unit is OK in Device Manager, but when you write a DVD it fails somewhere over 50% with "unknown error."

I tried Nero and standard windows app.

    What do you recommend?

    Hello

Did you test different DVD from different manufacturers?
I had a similar problem in the past and since I use TDK R DVDs and CDs and these discs work correctly.

I also recommend cleaning the DVD player with alkohole laser lens and the tip of the batting.

  • CD-ROM/DVD-rom only reads cd - dell hybrid

I won a hybrid of Dell, a little over 4 years ago (by Dell). It came with Vista. A year later, I put Win7 32 bit on it, Dell said that they would not support if I did. It worked great and still does... except for the dvd rom. He is not dead with Win 7 tho. He died less than a year ago. It reads and burns CD fine, but it won't read or burn DVDs.

I can't use my dvd drivers again because he will not read it. Of course I have more support or warranty on this thing. I was wondering if there is a way to get the drivers to see if I can get it running.

Today, I was going to reinstall the whole system but remembered my DVD rom is not reading and everything is on dvd (if it was on cd, that I could do!

I'll probably have to go buy an external dvd rom/writer this week, but thought I'd see if there was anything I can try before doing this.

If the drive reads CD but not DVD, it's a hardware problem. There is no driver will fix a hardware problem.

  • CD-ROM/DVD-rom cannot read CD - Rs (data or software)

    Windows XP SP3

    32 bit

    Antivirus: Optus (australian) Security

No anti-spyware and any third-party firewall

    CD/DVD-Rom: 20 x LG GSA-H55N

Since this CD-ROM/DVD-rom + 3 years now and used to burn/read CD - r.  Since last year, he was not able to read or burn to CD - r (data, audio, old games, software installation CD).  Burning & playback on DVD - r work (with a few issues).  On a previous thread, Chaos_Edit suggested to find the CD-ROM/DVD-rom by Control Panel/Device Manager - DVD/CD-ROM-rom and perform a restart on it.  Unfortunately, there was no Device Manager on my account control panel and can't find the file on my computer.    Any positive HELP is gladly appreciated.  Thank you

First of all, download your correct terminology.  DVD-ROM (or CD-ROM) is the types of compact discs for read-only.  What you have is a 'internal 20 X Super multi DVD Writer'.

DVD/CD burners use lasers for CD and DVD.  It is not rare to fail in front of the other.  Otherwise said, simply because your device can read and write DVDs does not mean that it always can read and write CD.

I have no idea what means "do a reboot on" a CD/DVD burner, whether or not you use the Device Manager.  However, for later use, you can get to the Device Manager at least one of the following ways:

    • Right-click "My computer" and select Properties; Click on the "Hardware" tab Click the 'Device Manager '.
    • Press the 'Windows' key and the 'Pause' key at the same time; Click on the "Hardware" tab Click the 'Device Manager' button (of course only works for keyboards with a "Windows" key)
    • Start > Control Panel > system [or, if you use the 'Category' of the control panel view, "Performance and Maintenance" and then "System"]; Click on the "Hardware" tab Click on "Device Manager".

I don't know where you buy hardware in ounces, but in general, a replacement CD/DVD burner doesn't have to be expensive.  In the United States, for example, that NewEgg resembles a replacement close enough to what you have for US$ 22.  Be aware that your current device uses an IDE interface rather than the more recent (and now more common) SATA interface.

  • DVD ROM not reading CD

    Hello world

    System manufacturer: DELL Inc..

    System model: Vostro 1015

    OS: Windows 7 64-bit

I'm having a problem with dvd - ROM does not detect not the disc?

The player turns upward discs at all?  If so, see the next step.  If not, the drive is toast - replace it with a new one.

If the disc is spinning, but it will not read the system, start safe mode (press F8 repeatedly until WIndows starts loading).  See that if the system will read the disc in safe mode - if it is, you have a driver problem.  If you have any CD/DVD software installed in read/write, uninstall, reboot and reinstall.

If the drive will not read a disc even in safe mode, it's the toast - replace the drive.

  • Satellite M35x-s349 - DVD-ROM drive read not

    I have a Satellite M35x-s349. I got it around late 2004.

He has had this problem for a few months and I had submitted to not being able to read or write cd / dvd because I couldn't find my recovery disks. When the computer was planted I renewed my efforts, found, restored with the help of an external HD enclosure, backed up and restored my computer. It was working fine. I burned the CD and watched movies without problems for a few months.

He has now stopped read any kind of cd yet. I put the small drive flashes next to my cursor. I hear movement inside (ROAR and the eye moving) but after about 20 seconds, he gave up and claims that there is no disc in the drive. I don't want to have to do a system restore, but I can't even read the restore disk to reinstall the driver. Are there any ideas on why this happens if not all the solutions? Any way to reinstall the driver online? I am a user of level intermediary model so I can understand most tech jargon you throw my way. I can usually solve my own problems, but this one seems hopeless.

    Any help is very appreciated.

    -Tom

I agree with Akuma. If the bootable CD/DVD cannot be read by the player are probably defective.

It's old notebook and you can find replacement on eBay.

  • CD/DVD Rom drive reads the DVD as blank disc?

Looked for information on the subject the whole place and it feels like I'm the only one who has this problem.

The CD/DVD-Rom drive in my HP laptop is not reading the data on my DVD or CD I DVD that have been burned on a computer and some other that I burned on this drive. Data on them that I've used them in the past and without any problem. I changed nothing on my computer since the last time I used them I can think of and I have all the latest software updates for Vista and HP.

Now when I put in drive it takes about a minute and then gets up and tells me that the disc is empty, but I know it's NOT like I've used it before and I see on the underside of the drive it was burned.

Is this a problem of software or a hardware problem or disk I have not tried a lot of things that just the standard checks to try to get the drive to run but without success. For any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks Phil.

    Hello PhilStokes,

Thank you for using the Microsoft Windows Vista Forums.

Sorry, you have a problem with this issue.  I would first go to Device Manager to verify that all drivers are up-to-date.

Go to start-> Type ' Device Manager "" in the search field-> select Device Manager '->, select here (+) for the CD/DVD - rom-> This will fall to the bottom of your device-> next right-click on the device and select update. "

If not chance or driver is already updated, return to Device Manager and right click on your device and select uninstall.  You may be prompted to restart, anyway go back to Device Manager and right click again and select install or update.

  • Windows 8 DVD ROM not reading discs

Yesterday I installed a few games on Steam, I was playing Saints Row the third while he was busy installing and bit after that I had to restart my PC because it was originally the trolling game. At the next startup, my laptop then got stuck on the login screen, where I put in my password/PIN and it would just sit there and do nothing. This kept going until that of course I had to go in safe mode and use that 'Everything clear, but keep your files' option windows 8 a, and am now able to log in and access my files.

Nut, now I am faced with a new problem, my DVD ROM will not read and disk I insert in there. It was working fine until I deleted everything, and now I can't use it.

I tried to use the tool of diagnosis provided by Microsoft for this problem, but it does not work. I should also mention the possibility of editing the registry does not work either.

My laptop is reasonably elderly, ten months or so, but I doubt that it is only a hardware problem because the DVD ROM shows on my computer and device manager says it works very well.

Are there other solutions for this or should I just take it back to the shop?

    Hi Taonga,

Thanks for posting the query on Microsoft Community.

I'm sorry to know that the DVD ROM is not working now. I appreciate your efforts toward this problem. It could be a software or a hardware problem.

    1. What is the brand and model of your computer?
    2. What diagnostic tool do you run?
    3. Did you try it with any other DVD?

You can try all the steps in the below link, it may be helpful when fixing the issue.

    Run this fixit: http://support2.microsoft.com/mats/cd_dvd_drive_problems/en-us

If the problem is not resolved, then follow the link below.

Your CD-ROM or DVD drive is not recognized by Windows or other programs:

  • Equium L20-264: CD/DVD player can read but not burn discs

    Hi all

I need help. My laptop cd/dvd driver does not recognize the discs inside. It only happens when I try to burn a disc. She can read but not burn the discs. What could be the solution? I tried different brands, the last time it was Maxell. The manual suggests Mitsubishi discs, but I'm not sure that it only works with the Mitsubishi discs. It can read any kind of disc.

So I'm in trouble, please help.

    THX
    Gabor

    Hello

In the manual, you will find a list of media recommended because this media has been tested and were working properly.
However, I use TDK CDs and DVDs and it works as well.
Juan suggested in another ad that sometimes 3rd applications or DVD copy locks are responsible for some driver problems:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=12497

What I mean is that it is not easy to give a generally the solution of these problems.
You should try different media, burning software and if it doesn t work so it s is a malfunction of the equipment. In this case, you will need to replace the drive.
