E-4200 low 5 ghz radio

The radio on my E-4200 seems to have a weak signal of 5 ghz.   With the help of a Motorla Xoom tablet, I get 4 bars throughout my house with the 2.4 ghz signal, but the 5 ghz signal will remain not connected in the room ajoining, 20 ft of the router.  The only place where I can stay reliable connected to 5 ghz, is in the room with the E-4200.

I opened a chat session with support and they had me take out AUTO communication channels and put on Charron 161 5 GHz and 2.4 ghz on Charron 9.   This has increased a little light power, but 5 ghz is still very low.

I use WPA/WPA2 with WEP with the 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz.

Normal for the 5 GHz band.  Internet research on this and you will find that you meet.

  • WNDR 4300 loses 2.4 GHz Radio daily

I bought a router of 4300 in November 2013. Shortly after the purchase I had to reboot the router on a daily basis to maintain the wireless operation. Technical support provided a new update of the firmware which solved the problem. Fast forward to December 2014 and the router starts the band 2.4 GHz weekly radio. Now, I had to recharge every day or I lose those devices that do not have a 5 GHz radio. It's very frustrating, I can't keep the operational Netgear routers.
Current firmware of my router is 1.0.1.60 and when I do a check for the new firmware on the router does report no new version of firmware available.

I'm at my wits end with this router which replaced a WNDR 4000 who had similar problems, and then die altogether in less than 18 months. It has to be a way to keep my router to the top and work.

Maybe somebody has some ideas on how to fix this?
    Thanks in advance.

The question was never on the cable Modem. I solved the problem by exchanging on the router for someone else, and so far he's been solid as a rock.

    Thanks anyway.

  • 2.4 Ghz radio not found during the investigation of site

Hello. Today, I was on a site where people are wondering about wireless performance. This is a site where are only 10 users per AP, as you can see in the attached picture.

When I was at the local level marked in a red circle, I found the following

    SNR:30
    power:-64dBm
    frequency: 5 GHz
Flow rate of 25Mbps download; Download 38Mbps

It has been tested with my laptop and Intel® WiFi Link 5300 adapter.

Although it seems all good, I try to find the 2.4 Ghz radio, but the software I used (Covera, Xirus, Inssider) cannot find the radio. I waited 10 minutes, and sometimes the radio appeared for 10 seconds and disappeared again. This is not the first time that occurred to me.

I also checked the auto-rf in the CLI WLC and attached the two.

No idea what is causing the radio0 to appear and disappear?

  • 5 GHz antennas 2.4 GHz radio?

    Hello

This could be the kind of a stupid question, but I can't find anything about it on the internet.

    It's as follows:

We ordered 2 Cisco AIR-LAP1242AG-E-K9 Wireless Access Points with 4 antennas AIR-ANT5135D-R.

We accidentally ordered the antennas 5 GHz instead of the 2.4 GHz antennas.

Would it not possible to use the 5 GHz as antennas 2.4 GHz antennas?

If so, are there any down sides to it?

    Thanks in advance!

    Jeffrey Schotte

It is more a question of physics.

You can try to use 5 GHz antenna on a 2.4 GHz radio, however, steel cables must be very high and not much RF will be emitted by the antenna.  More RF energy remains in the line of transmission as a standing wave and consume through the playoffs of the radio in the form of heat.  This means that the available range is much shorter and the final RF may be fried due to the high SWR.  Some high end radios have SWR detection circuit and take appropriate measures to protect final of the RF, but I don't know that these access points have this feature.

Why don't you use just 5 GHz radio and let the 2.4 GHz radio off?  5 GHz frequencies is so much cleaner and easier to deal with.  You can keep everything in 5 GHz unless your CIO has an iPhone and is very demanding.

  • Autonomous AP 1142n, 2.4 Ghz radio keeps going down

We have recently installed two 1142n APs. 2.4 Ghz Radion is activated and 5 GHz is disabled.

Any recommended points that I have to look?

  • 5 GHz network connection is much lower than the 2.4 GHz of E3000 connection?

I have an E3000 who has double bands, 2.4 GHz and 5 Ghz.  On the computer at home, I have a USB adapter Wireless-N dual band who sees the two networks.  I primariliy use the net of 5 GHz for the XBox 360 and the net for 2.4 GHz computers, but I noticed that the computers all to see the net with a much lower 5 GHz signal strength.  Reading the marketing hype, I expected the opposite.  Obviously in this case, it's the same router, the same computer in the same physical location and the same card.  Why he would see the net 2.4 GHz with very good to excellent signal strength and 5 GHz net as very low or weak signal strength?

This article can help you find what is the cause of bad signal.

Don't forget, with the increase in the frequency, scope decreases generally. Accordingly, 5 GHz systems are generally less than those operating in the 2.4 GHz band.

  • Impossible to exploit my devices wireless at the higher setting of 5 GHz.

Hey... anyone... Please help because Linksys technical support was not worth the time spent to understand my problem.  I have a router E4200.   The version of the firmware is 1.1.02.  I hesitate to upgrade; However, my iMAC is picking up 5 GHz broadcast setting, but the rest of my wireless devices do recognize that my lower 2.4 GHz control.  I changed channels, my router address is changed because it is in conflict with my Verizon DSL.   I don't have FIOS.  What can I do to solve this problem.  I have an ipad, 2 iphones, 2 ipod touches, 2 computers laptops (PC), an XBOX and PS3 which needs to connect to a higher spreading.  The connections are slow and sometimes deleted.   Help, please!

Very probably the rest of your devices is not a 5 GHz radio and therefore will not see the SSID of 5 GHz...

  • 5 alley, 2.4 ghz still work?

I have a Time Capsule 2 GB race at the beginning of 2009 7.6.7. He was a soldier for many years and saved my bacon at least once. Now he won't pass on 2.4 ghz more. He thinks he does, I can select a channel or let him; It reports no errors. But no devices can see this base station.

I can connect to the network 5 GHz without problem. Everything works as it should. but I also have devices 2.4 alone in the House that are now less internet. Before I reset the unit and risk losing my backups, or replace it altogether, is there something else to try?

Very rare 5 GHz to work at 2.4 GHz is not, but it can happen if the 2.4 GHz radio left.

On everything you can do at this point is try resetting the Capsule of time to return to the default settings and then set up again to see if that would help.

Reset time Capsule will not affect your backups. Only network settings are reset when you perform a default reset.

The real issue here is perhaps an average useful life of a time Capsule is about 3 years, so if the product works well since 2009, you did much better than the rest of us.

My research on the web, I understand that it can use 5G, and my router broadcasts 5G because my phone use, so I can't work on what Miss me. Can anyone help?

    Best, Minoli

    Hello:

The only suggestion I can offer is to try the latest driver directly from Mediatek (Ralink).

    PCI / mPCI / CB (RT2860/RT2760/RT2790/RT309X/RT35X2/RT539X/RT3290/MT7630)

I had the same problem with the USB dual band Ralink wireless adapter.

He showed only the 2.4 GHz band, and I knew it was a dual-band card.

My first conclusion is that the adapter was defective and only 2.4 GHz radio worked.

I searched on the internet about the adapter model and found that someone suggested to install the latest driver for Ralink for it that has indeed brought the 5.0 Ghz band to life.

Don't say this is absolutely going to work for you, but you have nothing to lose by giving it a try.

  • Aspire Z3-615 cannot connect to WIFI 5 GHz

Hello everyone, I'm just curious. I currently have 2 lines wifi, a normal 2.4 and 5 GHz WIFI.

However, my computer, the Z3-615 Aspire on windows 8, is not able to read the 5 GHz WIFI.

My network card is atheros ar956x 5 GHz qualcomm.

I was browsing around the forum and am sure that my adapter is a single channel, which I guess means he can't read 5 g :/

My phones are able to connect, so I wonder if there is a way to ensure that the computer can read 5g?

    Thanks for the help :-)

I don't know if the link below is your computer, but if this is the case, it says b, g, n, which means it lacks a 5 GHz radio.

  • Primary WRT1900AC & comments networks on the same Radio channel

    Hi - Newbie here.

The main network and the network of comments on my WRT1900AC occupy the same 2.4 GHz radio channel, regardless of the selection of a channel or using AUTOMATIC channel selection.  I want to change this scenario so that the primary network would occupy a channel (say, Ch. 11) and the guest network would occupy a different channel (say, Ch. 1).  I fell in my attempts.

Change channel from the main network (for example, Ch. 11-Chapter 6) goes well, as checked the WiFi Analyzer application on a separate shelf.  For each network channels remain separated (Pri @ Ch. 6 & Guest @ Ch. 11) for about 2 seconds, then the guest network dutifully follows the Canal of the primary school where the two, then, reside (Pri & comments @ Ch. 6).  This second 2 delay leads me to believe that the two networks can be separated with success and coexist on two different channels, but only if the adjustment is made.

I use the latest update of Firmware (Version 1.1.8.161917), and almost everything works perfectly.  I haven't checked for a situation similar to the 5 GHz band, but imagine that a cure for 2.4 GHz could be translated to a 5 GHz problem if it exists.

Please do not hesitate to me flood with your knowledge.  Thanks in advance.

Did a live chat with an environment of "agent" tonight, and, after some initial stumbles and a bit of the discussion on the issue, the agent said that "it's like that" and that the user doesn't have the ability to change the channel for feedback network.  Only I could answer that, unfortunately, Yes, the user makes, but in order to change the channel of Guest network, you had to change the channel of primary network.

    So, for now, 'that's it!

Guess I'll have to wait for firmware open stable source to be released so that I can flash and dig a little deeper into the router.  Until then, I'll just scratching my head about the counterintuitive to have practice two networks on a radio band occupy the same channel, possibly generating interference of the internetwork.

Thanks FurryNutz for your patience and your help.

  • WRT610N broadcasting at 5 GHz: how to tell him?

I installed my WRT610N to broadcast at 2.4 and 5 GHz and I put the SSID broadcast on "Enabled" for both.  Each configuration has a different SSID.  However, the computer I tried to connect, via the adapter DWA-140 (which is able to use a band), only shows the 2.4 GHz SSID as being available and not the 5 GHz SSID as well.  I even tried manually typing the SSID, but it still does not recognize it.

So, I'm in troubleshooting mode to determine if the router is not really broadcasting 5 GHz or if my wireless adapter does not work correctly.  I hope this forum can help me identify a way by which I can easily determine if my WRT610N works.

As a result, several questions: is there a (if all goes well, easy) way I can tell if the WRT610N broadcasts at 5 GHz?  In particular, can I use WRT610N content on the web or network Magaic (that I installed) to help me determine to whom?  (The menu of configuration settings only indicates that it should be, but that doesn't tell me that it's really, from what I can tell.)  Or is there some other utility that can provide me with this information?

    Thanks in advance.

You need a compatible adapter 5.0 Ghz such as:

    Linksys WUSB600N

    D-Link DWA-160

    Intel WiFi link 4965 agn

    Intel WiFi Linkw 5100 series

The D - Link DWA-160 will be 5.0 Ghz radio band and if this card is the rev. B the Ralink drivers version ' ' find.

  • Can I choose 40 MHz to 5.2 GHz and 20 MHz to 2.4 GHz channels at the same time?

I have a WLC 5508 and 3500 6 LAP at the head office, 2 to another office and 2 to another office.

I noticed that even when I specify 5.2 GHz on my (Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230) wireless adapter it indicates the data rate is 144 Mbit/s.  I want to try to get 300 Mbps out of it and I think I need to enable 40 MHz wide channels in the range 5.2 GHz.  Well, I don't want to cause any disturbance to the network currently associated clients.  What can I do?  What happens if a client adapter does not support the wide 40 MHz channels?  Then I keep 2.4 GHz at 20 MHz wide channels, and then they would just connect to the frequency range of 2.4 GHz?

Where would I go to change the width of the channel of 5.2 GHz only?  It is defined globally or I put it for each access point?  I saw a button radio for 20 MHz or 40 MHz to this place: Wireless > 802. 11A / n > RRM > DCA

That's where I'd do the settings to change?  If I would work the clients on the network briefly?  Do 802.11n 40 MHz channels are supported by all adapters with 5.2 GHz radios?

Looking at the use of the string with a program called inSSIDer 3, there is nothing past in the band 5 GHz except for us.

Thanks for the help.  Just trying to get the best possible flow that I've had a few requests SMB based respond slowly or poorly when on... wireless connections even when the operating system reports 144 Mbps.
