  This isn't what you want to hear, but you will need to replace the color cartridges as well.  The 8600 Pro Officejet has separate ink supplies and a replaceable (but expensive) print head.  If the printer works (in black only) with one or more color exhausted it can damage the print head.  To avoid damaging the printer hangs printing if one or several colors are exhausted.

  I'm sorry, your pictures don't print as expected.  It is likely that your color cartridge is a color that is distorting the colors printed.

  Follow the steps in this document to print a diagnostic page.  You will be able to tell whether a color is missing.  You may need to replace a cartridge.

  Try of the reset the printer as shown in this page.  Unfortunately, the error codes are not documented, if reseting the printer as described on this page is not enough you will probably need a new printer.

  The 'virtual' printer in the virtual machine settings through the present printers on the host - there should be no impact on your ability to 'normally' adding printers inside the guest.

  Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with the same type of printer, and I'm not Linux.

  The thing is useful that maybe I can tell you, is that you may need to configure the virtual adapter as connected by a bridge instead of the default NAT.

Ditto to print more than one PowerPoint presentation on one side of the page, if I click on print the odd pages only, then the printer will display the odd number of powerpoint slide instead of print odd number. I used to have another printer HP Officejet and never had any problems with two-sided printing. This printer comes with the function double-sided printeing at all?  If so, how can I do duplex printing?

  This is a limitation of the software that you use and how the HP printers recognize the incoming files. When compress you multiple pages on a single "page" this page is actually two pages, with even and odd numbers. It is therefore difficult for the software to determine the page numbers 'odd' and 'even' when printing, because it is no longer applicable to the relevant pages, but the format in which they are being printed.
