  I just brought a U300s ultrabook and the webcam stop working. When I use Skype, the only thing that appears on the video configuration is SOURCE of POS and the message "it is not possible to start the video. try closing other programs in use", but there is no other program using the webcam. When I try the internet sites called test my cam, etc. etc., the web cam seems not to work. I installed the cam properly and drivers of energy management. No luck. What could be?   1. what operating system is installed on your new computer"? XP, Vista or Windows 7?
  2 do you see anything unusual (yellow bang) in Device Manager?

  Assuming you are using XP (because the thread is in the XP category), I suggest you follow the steps below.

  Step 1: Use Device Manager to find the hardware changes
  Use Device Manager to find the hardware changes. After your computer search the hardware changes, it can recognize the USB device connected to the USB port so that you can use the device.

  To check the hardware changes, follow these steps:

  a. Click Start and then click Run.
  Note If you are running Windows Vista, click Start and then use the search box.
  b. type devmgmt.msc, and then click OK. Device Manager opens.
  (c) in Device Manager, click on your computer so that it appears highlighted.
  d. click Action and then click Scan for hardware changes.
  e. check the USB device to see if it works.

  Step 2: Remove and reinstall all USB controllers

  To remove and reinstall all USB controllers, follow these steps:

  a. Click Start, click Run, type sysdm.cpl in the Open box and then click OK.
  b. click on the Hardware tab.
  c. click the Device Manager button.
  d. expand Bus USB controllers.
  e. right click on each device under the Bus USB controllers node and then click on uninstall to remove them one at a time.
  f. restart the computer and reinstall the USB controllers.
  g. plug in the removable USB storage device and perform a test to ensure that the problem is solved.

  Help generic camera:

  Double-click Control Panel / Device Manager - Imaging - writing down of the brand and model of camera.

  You must have installed a Windows 7 64-bit driver (if it exists)
  for this. Do you have? Otherwise, navigate to the web site of the camera
  manufacturer, search, download and install it.

  This problem can occur because corrupt Webcam driver\software.

  Do you get any error messages? If Yes, what is the exact error message?

  Method 1:
  I suggest you check in Device Manager if the webcam is detected. If it is detected, check if there are error codes.

  a. right click on the Start button and click on Device Manager.

  b Expand imaging devices.

  c. check if the webcam is detected or not.

  d. If Yes, check if the there is a yellow exclamation point.

  e. If it has yellow exclamation point, double-click top.

  f. check under device status if there is a error message.

  Method 2:
  If the problem persists, I suggest you to download and install the latest webcam driver\software on the manufacturer's Web site and check if it helps.

  I tested the functionality of MSN with my Satellite A300. Software of FAO assist is to my laptop always OFF and cam works well with MSN. To be honest I have problems with ICQ only. Skype and MSN works fine.

  If it please enter together Audio and video settings and check if the cam is working there.
  In my case the cam is on and under Select webcam there are three possibilities:

  Chicony USB 2.0 default camera
  Chicony USB 2.0 camera
  Disable

  Install the latest version of MSN and try to test it with someone.

  I have a Satellite M200 series and my Webcam Chicony works very well with YM. When I tried to use it on Skype, he'll tell me that "Skype has not found video source preferred.   I think that Skype is one of the best applications to work with the webcam. I use it on the first day of purchase and there is no problem at all.
  What you can do is to restart your laptop, switch-webcam help software, start the Skype and try to configure the webcam in Skype settings again.

  He has to work. It works on my Satellite P200 and my Satellite U400 friends. He has to work in your case too.
