Welcome to the Forum!

Is not your machine come with (at least) 4 GB of RAM and Windows 7 Pro 64 bit preinstalled? Don't you have a Windows 7 Pro folder (certificate of authenticity) sticker on the back of your laptop?

Although I'm a big fan of XP, I personally would like to re - install Windows 7 Pro 64 bit on such a machine. It would be fine and would allow you to avoid the issues of XP driver and software conflicts. You should already have a valid appeal record Windows 7 so it shouldn't cost anything except a few hours using any DVD of Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. Official Windows 7 download locations listed here or here.

All drivers for Windows 7 64 essential are here. More specifically, here are your video driver Windows 7 64 and software for Windows 7 64 RPF.

Let us know how you do.

  • E530 supported wifi cards

    Hello

I recently bought an e530 edge and am under Arch Linux on it. The wifi card supplied with the machine is a broadcom BCM43228. Because I bought the machine from the New Zealand online shop I have the possibility to opt for the map intel.

Now I have problems with wifi because the wireless driver of linux for the card 'broadcom-wl' is a proprietary software and is not well supported.

My question is, if I buy an Intel Centrino Wireless - N 2230 card and replace it myself will I run into any problems with the card being whitelisted by the BIOS? Change the map void me the warranty somehow?

Good day and welcome to the community.

If you want an Intel card, looking at parts FRU E530 listing, you should go with WiMax 6250 (60Y3195) card to avoid problems on the white list. It is dual band and uses a configuration of 2 x 2 antennas.

Looking at this page: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-and-parts/detail.page?&DocID=PD023285 the WIFI network is an optional service of CRU.

I hope this helps a little.

    Kind regards.

Hello! I use a lenovo thinkpad edge e530.

I have a problem changing my BIOS settings after installing win8.1 and activation of bitlocker. I tried to reformat the partition, it's on, so I wiped it off with gparted and now all the settings in the bios are greyed out and I can't change anything. What can I do to be able to modify my BIOS?

I also have linux installed on my computer if I could do something there.

  • Series Edge (E) internal second hard drive

I was wondering if users of portable Edge series or E are using / used a second internal drive?

Officially, their sales staff, in this series of laptops feature to replace the optical drive with a hard disk has been removed. Their tech staff said when I asked. There is no official Lenovo adapter for E series, but some are available spare parts. Is that what someone has successfully used a Lenovo HD adapter in their E series? What the aftermarket ones? What were your experiences?

Side note: I doubt that the feature has been removed. Optical and hard drives are same. Because it's an entry-level computer, it would cost more to remove the option rather than maintain and publicly asserting that it does not work.

I doubt that they will remove the possibility of using optical drive SATA for HDD device connector. There is also the slot m2 you can use a SSD NGFF. I used 3 internal hard drive on my ThinkPad E520 and E530.

  • Replace the HARD drive - reload Windows?

I had a HARD drive failure on my ThinkPad E530.  I have a USB key with the backup that I created when I got the laptop, but I have no idea how to get this re-installed on the laptop.

In an ideal world, I would replace the small msata SSD upper unit (128 GB) and run windows from that and just put in a new standard 500 GB drive to store data.

But the backup created does not start or do something - it is large (40GB) and on a 1 to USB drive.

For any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

OK - everything is supported at this point - thought I'd post a summary for anyone else dealt with a similar issue.

I could download an ISO of windows 7 Professional from a link in an article I found on pcworld.com.  I highly recommend using a download manager - large file and it took forever and not was not the first couple of times that I've tried.

    http://www.PCWorld.com/article/248995/how_to_install_windows_7_without_the_disc.html

You will need the product key for your original purchase - it is only with the same version of windows, make sure that download you the ISO of what you had before - no upgrade

I then used the rufus program put it. ISO on a bootable USB file - I found another article detailing how to do this, its quite simple - online but you do need at least a 4 GB usb drive

    http://bootableusb.NET/install-Windows-Ubuntu-USB-drive-using-Rufus/

I installed a Plextor M5M 128 GB SSD on the msata port - insert USB drive w / windows - booted the laptop - access BIOS by pressing FN + F12 when the startup Lenovo screen appears.  Reset your shoe so that the new SSD is higher on the list then everything but the DVD player.  Save and Exit-

Restart again if he does on its own - use FN + F12 again in the first menu select your boot device - and select the USB key.

Windows must now walk you through a new installation - you'll need to key product windows here - I had to call Microsoft to get mine activated because it does not automatically, but the process has been automated and went smooth.

Windows need a bunch of drivers that have not been found for networking / wifi / and a dozen other devices.  I was able to copy the two files to a colleague with the same laptop - it was SWTOOLS and System32 - all the drivers I needed.

Once I had windows work - I installed all the updates of Windows I could - then turned off and installed a new 500 GB WD blue.  After that start again I had to right-click on computer - select Manage - select disk management - and install and format the drive - WD technical support walked me through it.

Once the two drives were visible I created folders on the new E: drive for all user Documents as records / music / Photos / videos / downloads - and reassigned those files to that drive to keep as much free space on the SSD drive - found an article for that as well.

    http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/how-move-Windows-7-personal-folders-my-documents-another-DRI...

Everything works fine - startup time is have really quickly - just install all my programs and get my email dropbox works.

There was a review that I found on the Plextor drive that suggests some parameters to make the SSD drive last longer.  Disable defragmentation / ensuring the system to activate the AHCI.

    http://www.Guru3D.com/articles_pages/plextor_m5m_ssd_benchmark_review_test, 1.html

I have installed a specific Lenovo software at this time - I can look for the power management widget, but things are much simpler without all their tools differnent - let's see what I may need in the future

    Hope this helps someone else.

  • Lenovo E530 SSD

I recently bought a laptop Lenovo E530 and ordered the 16 GB SSD addon, when I look at the drive it shows 14, 9 GB free of 14.9 GB Total. It doesn't have a drive letter, Lenovo does not tell me how to assign a drive letter or how to configure it to be used as a Cache. Will not tell me what SW or were so he could set up the drive for caching. How can I get this configuration option $ 60?

    Is it using Lenovo RapidDrive?

    http://www.Engadget.com/2010/01/20/Lenovo-RapidDrive-brings-SSD-and-HDD-together-demoes-66-percent/

The RapidDrive technology creates a virtual hard drive that combines the HARD and the SSD drive. This looks like a single partition for the operating system.

The partition without a drive letter you see isn't the SSD. It is the recovery partition.

It is possible to separate the SSD and HARD drive using the RapidDrive tool.

    See: http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/uk/en/HintsandTips/ShowDoc.aspx?ID=12870415982811

It doesn't seem to be a lot of documentation on this topic. I don't mess with it unless you are ready to reinstall Windows and have a good reason to want a separate DVAR.

  • E530 Win XP video drivers

    Hi all

I'm trying to get Win XP Pro SP3 installed on two E530s and I'm running into a small question. After installing the video drivers Intel HD Graphics, the screen becomes black during the boot process and never turns on. I can always connect via RDP or VNC. I tried both versions of the different drivers of Intel.

Since there is no driver available for download from Lenovo XP, I have a feeling that the E530 could be one of the first portable computers without shoring of XP driver? Has anyone else able to get XP working on these new laptops?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

    Hi altbg,

Welcome to the forums and thanks for posting. Regarding your question, the machine you have is the latest high-end Lenovo. However in this matter reason being that all of our support has Win7 supported only id drivers due to the fact that Microsft Windows XP has already reached their end of life for the driver XP Roll-out.

I wish there was more that we can do on the end of Lenovo, however, he came to this circumstance. The only solution I can suggest atthis point is by downloading directly from the site of maufacturer of device.

I really wish I can seat you futher in this cause, but no alternative can be brought forward to other installation Win7 driver for taking.

Agagin I really apologize, but don't let me know if you need other forms of assistance.

  • Problems with Dolby Advanced Audio with E530

Today, Lenovo and updated software drivers made some updates. And after that Dolby Advanced Audio not working anymore, and because of that, I think, I can't launch any music that is in the computer and video which are in my computer play with no sound.

    The error:
«Dolby audio driver is 7.2.8000.13 and the software application expects that the version of the driver 7.2.7000.11.» Please install a pilot application and software combination valid. »

So the problem is that I can't find version 7.2.7000.11 to download drivers or software that allows to launch with 7.2.8000.13 version. And BTW, backup is not yet done for my laptop.

    Waiting for your help.

    Take a look on: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-Edge/E430-Dolby-Advanced-Audio-Issue/td-p/826333

Although he was initially described as an E430 problem, several members report the same problem with their E530s, similar to you. It was noted in the thread with uninstall Conexant Audio Control Panel and reboot fixed the problem of the Dolby Audio.

I personally don't have an E-series to test this point, but it can help out you.

  • E530: is not completely shutdown/restart/sleep/setting Hibernate

    Hello!

I have a brand new E530 Edge with ssd drive intel 520 and i7-3612qm CPU. Latest versions of the drivers are installed.

The problem is that it only stopped completely - no display shuts off, but fan and LED lit. Same thing happens during sleep, hibernate, restart.

However, in safe mode it t-stop and restart correctly. It does so without any drivers (tried to reinstall Windows 7 and Windows 8 several times).

Sometimes (like 1 in 20 tests), it is shut down properly. I was not in a position to know what driver (or combination) are the problem.

Any advice will be appreciated. I really don't want to go RMA way probably all is needed is a patch/fix.

Finally found the source of these symptoms. It was a 2nd drive hard ebay cart.

To resolve this problem, I had to disassemble the hard drive caddy and remove one of the pins SATA (details - http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-business-class-notebooks/655065-hp-elitebook-8560p-wont-shutdown...)

    Now, the laptop works perfectly!
