• Network Notification area icon has changed: how to change it back?

  Just got a new laptop with Win7 professional about two weeks ago.

  All of a sudden, this morning, the notification icon of network for the switched network to the wireless icon - five bars icon wired with a big X red through it (because I am not connected via wired).  When I mouse over the icon it still shows my wireless network name and I have access to the Internet.
  I don't know how or why the icon has changed, but I would like to go back to one showing bars wireless.  I searched around and can't find anything on how to do it.

  Thanks for this location.  I don't know if that would fix it, by applying someone suggested another fix before having seen this, it screwed to the top of my notifications area if wrong I just did a system restore and that did the trick.  So, I'll keep my eye on it.

  This could happen because of the active adapter brightness or the obsolete drivers display

  I suggest to update the display via the Device Manager drivers and check.

  -Press X and Windows , and then select Device Manager.

  -Browse graphics cards, do a right-click on the driver and click on Update driver software.

  -Restart the computer and check if the problem persists.

  If the problem persists, then disable the brightness map settings in the Power Options and check.

  -Press the Windows key and D to get to the desktop and then click on the power management on the system tray icon, then choose the more power Options.

  -Click on the link change plan settings on the selected plan and then click on the link change advanced power settings .

  -Browse down to display, enable adaptive brightnessand change the settings of one off.

  Check if the problem persists after trying these steps.

  I checked the reported compatibility list, and the game is listed as compatible.  Work in 64-bit or 32-bit Windows 7?  I will try to reinstall the game, if you did an upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 recently.  If it is a new installation and does not, please visit the EA's Web site to get the latest patch for the game to see if that helps address your problem.  Let me know if you've done all that and you still have questions, and we can try something else.

  I've seen that happen periodically, but it is easy enough to fix. Simply remove the icon from your dock. Then re-create by dragging the Firefox icon in the doc from the applications folder.

  You can change the icon using the context menu > properties.

  You can check for problems with the Windows icon cache and trying to rebuild the icon cache.

  1. Open the task (Ctrl + Shift + ESC) Manager
  2. In the processes tab, right-click on the Explorer.exe process and select end process.
  3. Open the file picker via ' file > new task (run) "and click on the Browse button.
  4. Type or paste %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local (%LocalAppData%) in the file name field (AppData is a hidden folder).
  5. Select the IconCache.db file and use 'Remove' from the context menu to remove the file.
  6. After that the IconCache.db file has been deleted, start a new explorer.exe process through "file > new task" for the job and work the taskbar to return.

  The IconCache.db file is a hidden file, so make sure you can see hidden files.

  I use computers for 15 years and never had anything like that happen. This morning, I tried to open the game Neverwinter on my PC and in my Start menu shortcut does not work. Then when you select the game exe to open with (with the navigation, etc.), I also checked the box to always use this to open this file.

  For me, it was always going to use exe of the game to open the game... to the computer... it has changed every icon non-dossier on my pc on a launcher for this game... and I don't even like the game that much! Now that I read through several Q & A and help topics and various other things and most of them recommend the restoration of the system, which was also my first thought. Unfortunately, because of my compulsive nature, I disabled system restore when I built my PC in December 2011.

  Please let me know if there is another way to restore functionality to my icons/computer without reformatting everything, because honestly I feel like maybe this is my only option.

  From what you have stated above, I think that the file association for the shortcut LNK file has been given the misdirection of Neverwinter. I've seen this happen when opening a document or another file via a shortcut (for example. LNK file), you are asked what type of program to open it with. After selecting Neverwinter (or another program) via the Select a program from a list of programs installedand check always use the selected program to open this type of file (circled in red below), the document or program referenced by the shortcut of origin opens in Neverwinter as it should.

  

  The problem is that now all shortcuts (for example. LNK files) on the desktop or in the Explorer and the start menu will want to be opened by Neverwinter and use the icon of Neverwinter to display the shortcut bit whatever the shortcut was initially intended to open. This is known as a file association and the default icon. The same condition can occur if you have performed these actions 'Open with' on one. JPG or even a. EXE, but the. LNK explanation is much more likely for the items on the desktop.

  The good news is that a small free utility was written to cancel the. LNK file association was created. There is also a registry hack to achieve, but I recommend the utility unAssoc for its ease of use. I used to send people on another site to download this utility, but this site has become confused with all the ads and fake download links. I put a copy on by SkyDrive own here.

  

  Just download, then use the utility to unassociate the. LNK files for the user or globally delete the file type and let windows rebuild a new default.

  I can't believe I'm still having the same problem after a water landing forced my MBP mid-2012 and invest a lot of money in the new iMac. Now I'm sure this is the problem of the El Capitan, not the hardware. Especially after the last update of the system.

  Everything was going fine until last week when my iMac suddenly started to have some kind of hiccups - mouse ceased to answer at any time (100% battery), pages began to load really slow and sometimes only has not at all and Adobe apps began to plant without any particular reason. Nothing has changed and I haven't done anything unusual when it was absolutely new and running like a beast.

  The thing that is interesting to me is the use of the CPU and RAM. (It a few months ago when I had the problem with MBP), I noticed that when you open a page in Safari (any type of page) and let it stay there for a few days it starts to use a LOT of material in the background, even if you have completely forgotten this page and did not open it / refresh it for a long time - screenshots below. Why the hell is happening? I do not understand why Safari does need juice both by the love of God because no matter how much it will be, he will use it. I thought that changing from 8GB to 32GB it will solve the problem. Boy, I was wrong...

  I'm a fairly comfortable power user - I went through the registry with nothing doesn't. I tried setting the MinWidth for icons, but that affects only the open application icons. Bing search gave no possible causes. This isn't a serious error - and I can live with that. However, I would like to understand how it happened so it isn't double size again... and again... and again.

  I also installed a bamboo tablet, and my button display the office doubled in width.  I was able to restore it to the original (narrowness) by opening the control panel and open "turn Windows features On or Off".  I then unchecked "Components Tablet PC" and restarted the computer, and the button was back to normal.

  This disables the features of handwriting comes with Windows, but the Flick and feather options are always available.  Because I do not use the pen to write with, it worked perfectly for me and I could use my tablet of bamboo without problem.

  Sorry, but who said that buffer volume should appear? This regulator will appear only if you click on the symbol for small volume placed in the taskbar.
  Move volume control button nothing will be shown, just the little icon will change and show one, two or three small lines according to the level of the volume.

  If it's your computer, then bring it in a store and see if they can reformat the drive and reinstall Windows, or otherwise bypass.  They can at least copy the data on the hard drive.  If someone did something, you probably will never know with certainty what, it is best to reinstall the software.
