Easy transfer - implementation of new user names

I'm moving all my stuff to another computer using the seriously bad named 'easy' transfer - up to now very step has been atrocious.  I'm in what I thought was the last step - load data to an external hard disk in the destination computer.  On the destination computer discs had been authorized by my son, is "Virgin."   But at this last stage, I get to a command prompt in Easy Transfer which requires me to create new user names (or re - use previous) for both accounts that we already had.  But everything I put, including the old names, he says just 'mistake of creating user': the name of account, he will accept is former name of my son, and I cannot use this time.  But without giving users the two old names, he won't let me go.  There is absolutely no help available in Easy Transfer and therefore no idea whatever about what is actually wrong or how I can fix.  Help!

  • -Vista Basic to Windows 7 - easy transfer old and new laptops

After facing a lot of difficulty with the Vista and bluescreen mistakes, now I changed the idea of keeping vista more. Got a new laptop from Dell with Windows 7.

Now again, the problem is, when I tried to use the transfer via the cable, the program responds to microsoft and the Service Pack update. Considering that, my vista update does not appear any new update available from the windows update menu shortcut start. I followed the instructions as stated, but again and again, I wonder the service pack update.

I visited the Microsoft Web site to download the stand-alone software for this purpose. Is it specific to any other software available for transfer easty, that it installs old laptop with Vista Home Basic?  If the service pack is available for this specific update separately, I'll download it from microsoft and install it. I have woul like to get the good link for the same thing.

Just for your info, I give below details of the old & new details of the laptop:
Old - Compac Pressario C500, Vista Home Basic,
New: Dell Inspiron 1440, Windows 7.

Grateful for your advice on this.

  • Satellite Pro L300 - how Windows easy transfer on the new HARD drive?

    Hello

I recently got a broken hard drive of a laptop larger than mine.

I would like to put in my computer, but I don't know what would be the way to transfer the partition of installation (or better yet also already installed windows partition).

Will I be able to reinstall linux in a few minutes, but for windows it's something else.
Do you have an idea of the procedure?

The best would be to make a mirror copy, or something like that for me, to have just to extend the size of some partitions.

    Thank you.

    Hello

I recommend the creation of an image.
You can create either an image that contains only the content of a partition or the whole HARD disk content.

There are different image on the market tools. For the most part, you will pay for this software.
But you can also use an internal utility for Microsoft Windows 7. Its share of the Win 7 system.

If you are using Windows 7, I recommend this solution.

Here's a nice page of Microsoft on this tool and how to do it:

  • Using Easy Transfer of Win 7 PC to another Win 7 PC with 1 single monitor

II want to transfer files and settings on a PC running Windows 7 SP1 to another PC running the same operating system. I have only 1 monitor. How to make the transfer with 1 single monitor?  If I can do it with 1 monitor PC must be connected to the monitor? Or what I have to go back between the 2 PC's? Thank you. (Stupid question, I guess, but I need some advice).

    Hi Harry,.

Yes, you can use a system image to transfer the data.

However, Windows Easy Transfer is a software assistant to transfer files and settings from one computer running Windows to another. You can transfer data from one user or multiple user accounts profile. Easy transfer Windows application will help you choose what to move to your new computer, you can set the transfer method to use and then performs the transfer. Once the transfer is done, Windows easy transfer reports displays what was transferred and provides a list of programs that you can install on your new computer, as well as links to other programs you can download.

With Windows Easy Transfer, files and settings can be transferred using a network, a flashdrive USB (UFD), or the easy transfer cable. However, you cannot use a regular universal serial (USB) bus cable to transfer files and settings using Windows Easy Transfer. You can buy a cable to transfer files on the Web, the manufacturer of your computer, or at an electronics store.
    noteNote
You can't use Windows Easy Transfer to move program files. Windows Easy Transfer can move only data and program settings. You must then install your software on the new computer.

Windows Easy Transfer, also, does not transfer any system files such as fonts and drivers. To do this, you must install custom and updated fonts to update drivers in Windows 7.

Use the Microsoft Windows User State Migration Tool (USMT) 4.0 to automate migration during large deployments of the Windows 7 operating system. For more information about the USMT, see the User State Migration Tool 4.0 (usmt.chm) Help documentation installed with the Windows AIK, or see this Microsoft Web site.

  • Windows Easy Transfer does not

I got a new computer WIndows 8. I want to transfer my data from my Windows 7 computer. Easy transfer works on windows 7 but not 8. When I pull up on the 8 I have the question Yes or no. Yes constituting the data is already on a drive hard and being that I have not used before. If I click No., it closes. It brings me to another menu as it does on windows 7. I want to transfer data via wifi.

Transfer files and settings with Windows Easy Transfer in Windows 8

Windows easy transfer supports several methods to transfer your files and settings.
You can use Windows easy transfer to transfer information to a computer running Windows 8 computers with one of the following operating systems:
    • Windows 8
    • Windows 7
    • Windows Vista
    • Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) or Service Pack 3 (SP3)
NOTE: Windows Easy Transfer cannot transfer files between a 64-bit version of Windows and a 32-bit version of Windows. Instead, the files must be transferred manually using external storage devices. To find the version of Windows on your computer, see the is the Version on my computer 32-bit or 64-bit Windows
    ? support document.
Step 1: Determine the best method of transfer

When you transfer files between Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8 computers, choose a method that works on both computers. Windows easy transfer supports the following transfer methods:
    • External hard drive or USB flash drive: to use a USB flash drive, you need a USB port on each computer. If you use an external hard drive, it must be compatible with both computers.
    • Easy transfer cable: you need a special USB cable designed to work with Windows 8 and Windows Easy Transfer and a USB port on each computer. If you don't have an easy transfer cable, you can order one online or get one at an electronics store. The easy transfer cable is supported on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8 computers.
NOTE standard USB cable: A cannot be used to transfer files and settings between computers.

    • Network: both computers must be connected to the same cable or wireless network and both computers must be able to share files and folders.

To decide which method to use, consider the amount of information you will sit. If you are transferring everything from all users on the computer, or all of your user account files, an easy transfer cable, external hard drive or a network works well. If you transfer only a few files or folders, a USB works well.
Step 2: Open Windows Easy Transfer on the new computer in Windows 8.1

All the following steps on the new computer from Windows 8 to open Windows Easy Transfer. You must be logged in using an administrator account.
NOTE: before performing the following steps, unplug both computers to the Internet and temporarily disable any firewall software that may be running.

      Hi Jose,

      1. Create the same username won't double files?
      2. Who is your provider of antivirus?
      3. What exactly you're talking about when you say "create a new user name?

      This could be a virus.

A quick way to search for viruses is to use an online, such as the Microsoft Safety Scanner scanner. The scanner is a free online service that helps you identify and remove viruses, clean your hard drive and generally to improve the performance of your computer.

To run the Microsoft Safety Scanner:

      a. go to the page Web of the Microsoft Safety Scanner Download scan.

      http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

      b. click on Download nowand then follow the instructions on the screen.

Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner ends 10 days after being downloaded. To restart a scan with the latest definitions of anti-malware, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.

Note: The data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a risk of data loss.
