El Capitan - is it useful?

I have a very bad dsl connection, it begins as 7 hours download El Capitan, then increases from there. It is worth for me to spend a day is upgrade to Yosemite?

You call Apple store and ask them if you can use their internet connection to download.

They even have a copy of the downloaded installer already, and they may just allow you to copy that would be even faster.

  • Trouble installing EL Capitan. Drive uses the GUID partition scheme

    Hello world

I am installing an SSD on a Mac book pro 2011. I had been using the separate (Samsung ssd 830 256 GB) ssd (OS not installed) drive on my computer windows yet. I have created an El Capitan installation on a USB drive, swapped the hard drive on SSDS. I open at startup disk utility, erased the drive samsung with format: extended OSX journaled.

Then returned to install El Capitan, but the Samsung SSD is grayed out and when I click it, it says "this disc is not use the GUID partition table scheme." Use disk utility to change the partition scheme. Select the drive, click the partition tab, select the volume configuration and then click options"

However when I return to the disk utility, then select Samsung SSD, the partition tab is grayed out and cannot be selected.

I don't know how to proceed. I would greatly appreciate any help

You must select the drive icon above the volume icon, that is selected in the screenshot.

  • Update book mac pro 17 "2009 to el capitan, is it useful?

I did hear some good thing of those who have upgraded their old Mac to El Capitan. I jst wanted to make sure I don't end up with a lemon after the upgrade. View off the coast for a few years now. I just bought a new MBP 2015 13 "and an iPad pro 12" so that they can synchronize. My old MBP does not recognize the iPad pro. Should I leave it alone, or is - this useful to upgrade the boy.

Needs at least 8 GB of RAM for adequate performance, unless you plan to use it for the most trivial things.

Take the leap, you should do is to make a clone of the appropriate internal drive to an external drive bootable using CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper and even plain old Disk Utility. Once you have that and confirmed that it works, it store, do the update and test it for a few days. If you don't like it, start from the clone, clean the internal drive and clone the old system, thus returning to what you have now.

My end 2011 15 "MBP runs reasonably well on model. Of course, to have 16 GB of RAM and a 7200 RPM HARD drive with plenty of free space helps a little. But it can compete on equal footing with the new 15 mid-2015"rMBP, which is at least 3 generations of CPU to come.

  • El Capitan case of useful things, adds unnecessary things

Just complain of El Capitan - none of the new features have proved useful to me, and you actively broke up several useful things.  More precisely:

-Mail no longer allows me to choose which email address I'll send emails from.  How do you think it is a good idea?  It is important to be able to send a specific e-mail to a specific address, even if you are replying to a message received from another address.

-Mail also jerking spasmodically when you drag messages into the Inbox into folders.  The list of updates of messages three times in a second, with the message moved trying to disappear and reappear, very distracting.

-You turned off the default dashboard.  I figured out how to turn back on, but not thanks to you.

-The versions of Excel and Word on El Capitan crash 2016, doesn't have to Yosemite.

-Calendar now often fails to add events properly when copied and pasted from Mail.  He used to always work.

-By searching Spotlight and pressing return brought to the top of the calculator application, not the file I was looking for by name (which doesn't have the word calculator anywhere in it); How is it still happen?

-The new iTunes is more interested in trying to sell me radio that let me access my music, which is what the program should exist for.  (And by the way, did not even get started me on the latest OS for the iPhone and it's terrible audio book, music, podcast & apps have become.)  I stopped altogether using the music application, it's so many things that annoy the real music!)

-If you want to do something useful with a new OS, make wifi works better!  He still has problems where neighbors non-Apple computers laptops don't, and who has a problem for years.  Fix bugs, not create new ones.  Or make the Finder rather Path Finder!  In fact, it would be useful.

What are you doing, Apple?  Stop touring Microsoft and meet.

-Mail no longer allows me to choose which email address I'll send emails from.

It has not disappeared. I can choose the address.

-Mail also jerking spasmodically when you drag messages into the Inbox into folders.  The list of updates of messages three times in a second, with the message moved trying to disappear and reappear, very distracting.

Never saw this on my Mac.

-You turned off the default dashboard.  I figured out how to turn back on, but not thanks to you.

It was always still available by running the Application of the dashboard in the Applications folder, regardless of the way that you set up in Mission Control

-The versions of Excel and Word on El Capitan crash 2016, doesn't have to Yosemite.

I did not notice the accident; but I expect them that Microsoft fail to create an office for an operating system crash from time to time. They fixed the crap out of office immediately after El Capitan was released.

-Calendar now often fails to add events properly when copied and pasted from Mail.  He used to always work.

I just drag and drop, but did not much of that, either, so I don't know if he did or didn't at this point.

-By searching Spotlight and pressing return brought to the top of the calculator application, not the file I was looking for by name (which doesn't have the word calculator anywhere in it); How is it still happen?

It will bring up the calculator if you are looking for a calculation. I've never had it just to chance, however.

Yes, it does, but I have not watched the music selling coins since he was released. I don't know how that interferes with your music or podcasts or whatever. I just click on music to get my music, the podcast tab to see my Podcasts.

Podcasts are significantly better for me, on both platforms, but then I'm only looking for one.

-If you want to do something useful with a new OS, make wifi works better!  He still has problems where neighbors non-Apple computers laptops don't, and who has a problem for years.

Once again, something I've ever known. I know these forums that many people have problems with WiFi, but I can't offer corrective or workaround solutions I've ever known the problems myself. But, it seems this forum, they have managed to make a big dent in a large part of the WiFi problems. Seems all the BONES, they have published during the last four years had various problems with the WiFi. The El Capitan forum seems to have much less references to WiFi I've seen in the past.

  • G4010 Scanjet G4010: With El Capitan, new driver using Image Capture, frozen "pending to scan...". »

Downloaded the driver for G4010 on El Capitan (I used Parallels and Windows driver for scanning to the end).

It loaded and grew up of Apple's Image Capture app and watch the G4010 in devices then stops with the message "Waiting for Scanner...". »

His son connecte connected by USB, turn on the G4010 and turns off, you press the keys without success.

RELOADED Image Capture, he showed the G4010 but can not read the details of the device.  Disconnected the USB - he complained has been disconnected but was still not satisfied on reconnection.

I'm clinging to the scanner to finish my thousands of slides to scan.  Image Capture will scan slides if he is asked?

    I found my own answer-

Has deleted everything except the new driver HP in the Applications and utilities, rebooted the Mac, then Image Capture found the G4010 and digitized.

  • Illustrator crashing into OSX El Capitan (when I use the eyedropper tool). When an update is available?

    Hi Adobe and family

I upgraded to OSX El Capitan, last week and everything seems to be working for Photoshop and Illustrator.

I am running CS5 but Illustrator was crashing when I use the eyedropper tool.

I try downloading the update, but it gives me an error message.

Anyone know if there is a specific update for El Capitan again?

    Hello world.

I tweeted on Twitter @adobesupport. They returned to me an Adobe said no no longer support for CS5 or CS6.

It is strategic to their side to prevent users to buy the latest version of the software, but unfortunately, this means for us who are pleased with our releases

We are obliged either upgrade to CC or downgrade to Yosemite OSX or OS that supports are Adobe version.

With regard to the eyedropper tool. The best solution I have found so far is to open the same image in Photoshop. Eye drops it and

Copy the Sample Code in illustrator and click Add to swatches to have it registered for this particular design.

    Best regards, C.

  • Messages on El Capitan - can't use nicknames?

I have not found this issue anywhere, but I'm trying to get my contacts in Messages to display in Pseudo as defined in Contacts. Is this possible? I don't see why it wouldn't, currently nickname seems to work on my iPhone, not on my mac.

    Thank you

    Michael

Mac OS and iDevice OS work differently - they are not the same. Here is a screenshot of the Contacts preferences pane:

You could try and check the "nicknames like" to see if that would do the trick for you by entering a couple of them (I have not tried so I don't know if it works).

  • Applications using cmd + tab switching does not work (reverse return) when you use several spaces in the Sierra

I usually have a lot of apps open it in full screen across a number of different areas.  In El Capitan, when I used cmd + tab to switch apps, it would just go directly to the application in the entire app was opened in.  Now, he tries to switch to the app, but then IMMEDIATELY switches to the space, in that I was already.  It's like if someone is sitting there playing this cruel on me joke where whenever I try to go to the app, it shows to me and then immediately sent me immediately.  Everyone knows something similar to this?

To re-create the problem, have a few apps open it in full screen in different spaces, then try to switch to another application in another space using cmd + tab or try to switch to an application that is just open on the main office space.  It comes immediately rebascule on your original app!  I'm ready to tear my hair out!

  • Update of my Macbook Pro (2010) to El Capitan?

    Hi all

I've been planning to update my Macbook Pro 2010 at El capitan. But, I have only updated the software once before, to Snow Leopard, so I don't know if my mac can handle the transition. I want to upgrade because I hope that it will speed up my macbook. Any thoughts on the weather or not I should update?

    Thank you!

The only way to know for sure how the MBP will respond to El Capitan is to install it.  However, you might want to install El Capitan on a different HARD disk or another volume and try it first before commit you to him.  That way, if she does she not suit you, you can easily return to Snow Leopard.

If you have not already 8 GB of RAM installed in your 2010 MBP, I suggest that you do.  El Capitan likes to use a lot of RAM.  The best sources of RAM compatible Macs are OWC and Crucial.

    Ciao.

  • IMac, re - install El Capitan-wants to load on external drive

Late 2009 Imac. 16 RAM, HD 1 T.  El Capitan.

Use slow this AM-reboot.  This opens to the Apple screen and the cursor moves right - about 3/4 and slows down.  It stops at 90%.  After 30 minutes, it move at the end and then the Imac white switch.  ??

Did the same thing in safe mode.

Try the Options mode now.  Thought I'd reinstall El Captan.  I have attached external USB which is bootable.  Options want to install El Captan to emphasise the main HD.

Went BACK - and currently running disk utility... but he is stuck on the LOADING of DISK with the spinning wheel.  Been there a while.

I made a Clone carbon copy about 4 days ago and have also two BU of Time Machine.

I would like to charge El-Capitan-CLEAN.

    Suggestions?

Your message is not clear. You try to install the internal hard disk, or you try to install on an external hard drive?

  • Utility drive Mac Mini - El Capitan problem-

I've upgraded to the new OS El Capitan, and lost the function of a few programs that are important to me.

Is there a way to take a step back to something like Yosemite OS?

My main problem, as I type...

I record live music, and the end files are engraved on DVD-Audio (DVD-A) discs.  I used to drag the created DVD-A iso.image file in my disk utility window and ask for a burn it.

In El Capitan, there is no possibility to do this kind of disc burning.

In addition, El Capitan I cannot use my favorite audio playback software, gear, and play audio files FLAC.

So on top of my head, these two are the main grind for me and this new OS.

Is it possible to take a step back into the BONE, far from El Capitan?

  • Lack the option 'Use iCloud password' on 1 MacBook

I have 3 MacBrook Pros and 1 Mac Mini, everything on El Capitan.  I use my account on all devices iCloud successfully (Photos, Contacts, iCloud drive, etc.).  I also use my iCloud password on all devices, except on one of the MacBook, which does give me the option to do so.  On this one specific MacBook (let's call it "without work MacBook"), I'm stuck with a local password.  In the preferences system-> users and groups, my Admin user (the only user defined on this system), the option to change password don't give me the choice to use my password to iCloud.  In addition, under my username, my iCloud ID is NOT displayed.  It appears under the username on all my other devices.

I am connected to iCloud on the MacBook without work, and anything else iCloud-related work.

I tried disconnecting and verse iCloud on the MacBook without work and it has no effect.

I tried to restart the MacBook non-working and has no effect.

On the MacBook without work, under system-> iCloud preferences, it shows the ID iCloud under my username, and I even change my password iCloud (I did and it worked - I had to update on all other devices).

On the MacBook without work, in the preferences system-> users and groups, if I unlock and right click on my username, then select Advanced Options, it shows the correct ID of Apple.

I found at least another one online of someone having this same problem, and their 'solution' was to reinstall the OS from scratch.  It's a bit drastic - like buying a new car all the 5,000 miles because you don't know how to change the oil.  I hope someone can recommend a surgical solution more.

    Thanks in advance!

Change an existing account to use the iCloud password is no longer possible from 10.11.4. Accounts that have already activated the feature continue to work, however, if they are changed to a regular password, then they also cannot switch back to use a password to iCloud.

The installation wizard can still set up an account to log in with a password to iCloud, the current solution to allowing him so to re-run the configuration wizard. See this for instructions on how to rerun the configuration wizard: http://www.theinstructional.com/guides/how-to-re-run-the-os-x-setup-assistant

Basically, open the Terminal and run:

    sudo rm/var/db /. AppleSetupDone

    Then restart.
