EliteBook 8570p: hard drive: quick test failed

Hi, I did a quick test on drive, but he can't.

Below the results:

Error ID: M09K3S 1PQ836 MFKSXF 60 T 203

Product ID: A1L15AV

500 GB

In your opinion, is it necessary to change the hard drive? Is there another solution?

Thank you

Hi @87Federr!

I'm sorry to say this, but your drive has failed and you need to replace it with another, which is the meaning of this error code of 24 characters.

You always have access to the data stored on the disk? If you do, then save as much information as possible and look for a replacement drive. If the product is still under warranty, you can contact support, but in case you have no guarantee and you would like a guide to replacing the hard drive yourself – please let me know.

I hope this helps and good luck!

I have a HP Pavilion laptop g6-2218nr that will not start.  When you run the marketing diagnostic test and the hard drive diagnostic test, both tests showed the hard drive DST short FAILED.

    The failure code is:

    GUQDU4-6B872D-MFPX1F - 60Q 103

The laptop is unfortunately no longer under warranty.  Should the hard drive be replaced?  Can you recommend a replacement?  Are there instructions available?

    Thank you!

    Hello

The error code indicates that the hard drive is faulty and will need to be replaced - a brief guide to do it yourself is detailed below.

Your laptop is considered as coming with a 320 GB hard drive, but you can install just as easily a 500 GB or 750 GB HARD drive if you want a little more space - readers at the following links are examples that would be perfect for your laptop.

    Hard drive 500 GB

    750 GB hard drive.

The procedure to replace the hard drive begins on Page 52 of your & Maintenance Guide.

Once this is done, simply use your recovery DVD to reinstall the operating system on the new drive - this is described in the document of HP here.

If you do not have your recovery discs, you can order a replacement set using the link below.

    Order HP recovery disks.

If you have a problem with this link, order them directly from HP.

What could be the reason of this error and how can I solve this.

    Please give me the solution...

The reason is that some among thousands of hard drives fail. It is a fact of manufacturing. Did you just to get a bad. I hope that you used to backup important documents of external storage.

You can try reinstalling the hard disk. If that doesn't have a positive result, then it is time to replace the hard drive with a new one and using your recovery media to recover your laptop back to the State in which he found himself out of the box.

If your laptop is still under warranty, you can contact HP and was sent for warranty replacement request to have a replacement hard drive.

  • Portable: hard drive DST SHORT failed

My computer won't start and repeatedly goes to a blue screen with a sunburst type above (the mouse pointer still work). I've run the HP tests and get this result:

I guess that means that my hard drive is irreparable, but can someone confirm this. Also, I will be able to buy another hard drive and use the ERD that I did to reinstall Windows 7? I ask because it was preinstalled on your laptop and came with no disk to reinstall. Only, I was commissioned to do a repair disk.

    Thanks in advance.

    Dan

Each time the short hard drive DST test fails with 24 alphanumeric characters "GDSDBX-TLR7RJ-9XL03F-604J03" which indicates that the hard drive has failed and which needs to be replaced to solve the problem

This problem could be due to an Application or a driver conflict, virus issues, corruptions of files due to incompatible applications, incorrect judgments, update failures due to conflicts, mounted sudden power so portable, sudden falls etc...

HP will offer a replacement HDD if the laptop warranty is Active, otherwise you can buy a SATA hard drive in a nearby retail store

Please make sure that you get at least equal as long as the original one in order to use recovery disks. If you need you can buy a bigger, but not smaller hard drive capacity. For example, if you have a 500 GB hard drive you can improve it to 750 GB hard drive, but not 320 GB hard drive

Please try the troubleshooting below indicated once the steps:

Step 01. Remove the battery and unplug the power adapter AC.

Step 02. Press and hold the power button for more than 30 seconds

Step 03. Plug the AC power adapter / (leave the battery for now)

Step 04. Press the power button and check if the unit is operating normally

If the steps listed above is not enough, then you can try reinstalling the hard disk on your laptop

If the problem persists again please Contact HP if your HP laptop is under warranty, HP could replace the hard drive and provide recovery media to restore the operating system to factory after the replacement (if you have not yet created recovery disks/USB support)

Note: Back up all personal data on an external drive if possible. Otherwise, you can connect the HDD defective via SATA USB adapter with another PC or a PC even after replacing the HARD drive & put in place of the operating system and try to copy / retrieve files. • Hard drive 1 Quick Test Failed 303 G50: next steps/go ahead

    HP G50-133US

    OS: Windows Vista.

Today, after having some problems with the loading of the features of Firefox (i.e. the application Firefox itself, not internet issues), I met a blue screen.  I forgot the exact terms, but I think it was a kernel fault any.  (Must have written those...)  Now it hangs at startup of Windows Vista "loading bar" and does not start in the operating system.  I remember no unusual physical disruption (it drops hard, etc. - this laptop is still essentially in one place all the time, and I am careful enough with my computers).

I ran the first disc hard test, and it reports:

#10008-disque hard to replace 1 and SMART drive past.

It gives the result: failed hard drive FAST (303) 1.

After my preliminary research, this means that the hard drive is a failure, and I need to replace the drive. I can boot into Ubuntu from a live disc and still access my hard drive with all the files it contains.  I don't want to copy these files (300 + GB, etc.) on a drive that started in Ubuntu while external.

My big question at this point:

If I replace the hard drive and copy that all files back on, is it likely that Windows will start again?  At present, it does not start. For me, this means that there is probably a file system missing or inaccessible, or etc.  But, if I just copy all the data to a new disk, this file will always be missing. that makes it sound like copy all files on the drive would not allow me to recover my Windows installation.  Is this the case?  (Or, it is dependent on situation and cannot be determined?)

    Hi apnorton,

Just copy the files from the old HD on the new HD make bootable and you cannot boot into Windows using this player.

The solution is to use a recovery disc for your model of laptop reinstall Windows Vista (I hope you do when you got the PC and have always them around), which will put the operating system in the State of the PC came from the factory.

Otherwise, you could install the OS of Microsoft installation media, but you will probably need a new key system to take this path.

    Good luck!

I have a laptop HP laptop computer 635, which seemed 2 crushed hv. Now evry time I turn it on n wait 2 open windows, it does not open on the contrary he wants me 2 press "esc" n, that is when it brings the system diagnostics. Now tried to launch all tests, including the global test, but all he says is that hard drive 1 is defective so I need to insert a disc of the windows operating system 7. Hello

Error 303 and 305 codes are respectively the Self Test short and long drive failure and would indicate that hard is defective and must be replaced.  It is also compatible with the inability to see the HARD drive when starting your installation disc.

If your laptop is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange for the disk replaced - you can check the status of your warranty here.

  • Could not start, laptop computer, disk hard short DTS test failed

I am currently not able to start my laptop properly. I have a HP Pavillion G6.

When I start it, it stays on the screen with the HP logo and a black background for awhile and eventually get to a black screen with the cursor visible and mobile, but unable to do anything else.

I tried to press F11 at startup to restore the factory settings, the system recognizes the key but leads straight to a black screen that I left it for several hours, but nothing happens.

I have gone on the menu of system diagnostics and run a quick test that revealed the Hard Drive DST short, Check failed.

Will I need a new hard drive? Or is it possible to fix it?

If I need a new, where can I get one from?

    Thanks for any help

    Hello

The short drive Self Test (DST) failure would indicate that hard is defective and must be replaced.  This is also consistent with recovery and startup problems you describe.

If your laptop is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange for the disk replaced - you can check the status of your warranty here.

If you live in the United States, contact HP here.

If you are in another part of the world, begin here.

  • Compaq presario v6000 v6409tu disk hard bios self-test fail

    Hello

Windows xp no my pc compaq v6000 not starting and bluescreen showed a couple of times. I ran the BIOS (phoenix) disk hard diagnosis and the test failed. When I opened my HDD I noticed green rust as deposits into the connector on the hard drive. After cleaning with a brush, computer loaded XP successfully. But an hour later, while I was surfing in mozilla suddenly the mouse pointer started late and showed computer blue screen saying that windows has been closed down to prevent damage.

I would be grateful if someone can tell me if it's a software problem or hard drive error. If I need to replace my hard drive, what are my options, for example. rpm, capacity, provider? Thank you.

The only way you could have rusted copper into the connector on the hard drive is if liquid got in there so I am reluctant to try to speculate how much damage has been done. I remove the hard drive and connect it to the outside to another computer and run chkdsk on it to see if the drive itself is bad. As long as there is a problem on the part of connector and the interface with the motherboard cannot really trust the onboard hard drive Diagnostics. You could also get an own another new hard drive adapter.

If it does not turn on the hard drive is bad, you can replace it with any laptop SATA drive no more than 9.5 mm thick.

    http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16822145587

Above is a good thing. It is slim (7mm) but it will still go into the caddy and connect to the motherboard with the connecting piece. If the hard drive itself is always good, and you replace the connector piece but he always bluescreens, so I would not spend money on a new hard drive. I would say that there was damage to the motherboard.

  • replaced HDD on Pavilion dv9618ca with different HARD drive. laptop now fails at first to the top

I replaced the hard drive (750 GB WD) in my HP Pavilion with the 750 GB toshiba brand AF different and portable model with win7 os. Now, the computer fails to start, it looks and sounds as if it will work; happens to windows and don't stop giving me the error that starts the repair is necessary. I tried several times to use the installation disk I bought fromwindows however nothing helps. I did smart test, diagnosis and tried to restore / repair with the help of HP. I don't know what to do.

Yes, but you may also be able to format it by starting on a Windows install disc/USB drive and then choosing the option to format the drive during installation.

  • Cloning hard drive with Clonezilla failed, gave a bad sector error message and now the original hard drive will not boot

    Original title: startup problem

I tried cloning from my hard drive with Clonezilla, and he gave me a bad sector error.  I have since run the hard drive test in bios and it passed.  Anyway, clone has failed, and now the original hard drive will not boot.  My dvd player won't turn when I try to load the Vista repair CD (Vista Home Premium 32 bit).  Clonezilla removes the start settings for the original disc?  And if so, how can I restore it?  The computer starts just a black screen with a cursor at the top left.  When I install the hard drive in a box and connect it to another computer, it shows the partitions and files all seem to be there.

    Hi DougEisenmann,

Clonezilla is not supported by Microsoft.

If you are unable to boot from the Vista repair disk then you will need to go into the system BIOS and make sure that it is configured to boot from the DVD drive.
