EliteBook 8730w: Hp 8730w Will support 500 GB of HARD drive?

I have a Hp 8730w and the vehicle currently has a 160 GB HARD drive. I have an additional 500 GB HARD drive.

8730w will be able to support it? I saw its specifications and found this info from Hp site:

You are well. It of an older laptop, but a true ICH9 SATA storage controller has therefore no effective size limit for a SATA hard drive. Do you need a manual, or do you know how to replace the hard drive physically? It's so old specs is a time when readers were smaller and the manual lists only the HP readers offered by the factory.

  • I bought a 500 GB external hard drive and did a full system backup. Then he told me that I need a floppy disk? After backup system restore was complete. What?

I had a scare last week and thought that my computer crashed.  In the end, everything was fine, but I decided I had to do a full backup of the system.  Bought 500 GB external hard drive.  Full backup of the system ran through the performance Wizard mode & maint.  When finished, he gave me a saying of the warning, something like "insert a diskette to run the system restore" something like that.  Does this mean that if I have a major failure which is on the external hard drive is null and avenue?  Floppy?  What is everything?

The disk is a boot disk that is used to access the backup files.

  • Can you put a 500 g SATA hard drive in Pavilion a750w?

Can you put a 500 g SATA hard drive in Pavilion a750w?  The bios is version v3.26, and the operating system is XP with SP3.  40 gig HD is full and you are looking to replace it but do not know what the size limit is with this bios version.

Here are the specifications of your HP Pavilion a705w desktop. This is based on the assumption that you converted the 5 and 0 and the fact that you mentioned a 40 GB hard drive.

You already have the most current version of the BIOS of your computer and running the most recent service pack of Windows XP. Your computer and the operating system should support a drive of 500 GB without problem. The only problem is that your computer isn't any SATA ports, only 66/100 IDE (PATA). Look at local retailers and online for the IDE drives.

  • HP SimpleSave 500 GB external hard drive is identified however the data is not displayed

Hi, I have a HP SimpleSave 500 GB external hard drive. Till a month back I had copied, files, documents, mp3 etc in this player. And a few weeks back when I plugged it to recover some data on this subject, I was unable to see any folder in which I had copied the same. In the properties it shows to me that about 120 GB is used, which some how make sure that data are on it, however, due to an unexplained error, I am unable to see. Any help will be appreciated.

    Hi TinmanSav,

Follow the suggestions below for a possible solution:

Method 1: Run the hardware and devices Troubleshooter and see if it makes a difference.

Open the hardware and devices Troubleshooter

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/open-the-hardware-and-devices-Troubleshooter

Method 2: I suggest you disable and re-enable the USB controller and check.

Use Device Manager to disable and re-enable all the USB controllers. This allows controllers to recover the port USB of his condition does not respond. USB controllers represent the USB ports in Device Manager.

To disable and re-enable the USB controllers, follow these steps:

    a. click Start, type "Device Manager" in the start search box and press ENTER.

    b. Expand Universal Serial Bus of controllers.

Note: You need to scroll the list to find this point.

    c. right-click on the first USB controller under Bus USB controllersand then click Uninstall to remove it.

    d. Repeat steps above for each controller USB is listed under Bus USB controllers.

    e. restart the computer. After the computer starts, Windows will automatically check for changes on the hardware and reinstall all USB controllers that you uninstalled.

    f. check the USB device to see if it works.

Method 3: Check if the external hard drive is recognized in disk management and assign a drive letter to the same.

To open disk management, follow these steps:

    ·         Click Start, type disk management in the start search box and press enter.

If the drive is detected in disk management, I suggest you to assign a drive letter and see if that does the trick.

    For instructions, see this article:

Change, add, or remove a drive letter

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/change-add-or-remove-a-drive-letter

You can also check the external hard drive on another computer.

  • What happens to my key if my hard drive is formatted, the key will work after that my hard drive is formatted?

I want to know that my synchronized computer key will work if I format my drive hard because when the hard drive is formatted, then the key code is deleted, even though I saved my key will it work after formatting hard drive. Let me know.

let me also know that what will happen if I lose the key I had saved then how will I access my synchronized computer .

    Hello!

Can you indicate the information where it says that the information is stored in our servers? If that mentioned anywhere we need to clarify.

The only reference I found is here: How can I set up Sync on my computer? and it is specifically stated that the information is synchronized on devices through our servers. If it is misleading, let me know so that we can reword it.

Regarding the storage of the key in your pen drive or any other backup system: this is the best solution and it will work correctly after you format your computer. The key does not change when you format your computer, so you will have no problems after all.

  • Toshiba 500 GB external HARD drive is no longer detected - after only 1 hour

    Hey,.

I finally got my Toshiba 500 GB external hard drive delivered today. I had no problem setting up and to turn my laptop on, it immediately recognized and I started to transfer things for her.

However, I accidentally stood on the USB cable to the HARD drive and disconnected. I plugged it in, but my computer did not recognize.

Nothing I've tried has worked, always, the laptop does not recognize the hard drive.

Please help, I've only had the one hour thing, and it already does not work! I really hope that I have not only lost £56...

All advice is appreciated, thanks in advance.

NEW: My father just tried plugging the HARD drive in the desktop PC is on the ground, and as soon as the USB when it is in the port, you stop the computer... causing him to lose a lot of important business email, he wrote. It starts the computer, the USB and you stop again... and this has happened 3 times until he gave up. What on Earth is wrong with this thing? I've never heard of a USB cable, stop a computer permanently, or a hard drive that does more after an hour of use...

The USB port on the HARD drive may have been damaged and may be causing the PC detect a short power.

You can try another USB cable? If it is not the cable, then the HARD drive should be sent to a Service Center for repair or replacement.

    Hi Ron,

Don't you see the external hard drive listed in Device Manager?

You can also check if the hard drive is listed in disk management.

    a. click the Start button > Control Panel > system and security > administrative tools.

    b. double-click on computer management.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    (c) in the left pane, under storage, click Disk Management.

Please post back and we do know.

  • Imation Apollo HDD 2.5 "500 GB external hard drive

I try to use my Apollo 2.5 HDD 500 Gb external hard drive. It is impossible to open it from my different computers. Paolo diferent cannot recognize the mentioned device. Can you please help me with this problem?

    Thanking you in advance

    Raul,

Let's start at the beginning... Do you hear rattling noises when you connect your HD on your computer? If you have more likely your hard drive is physically damage and usually there is not an easy way to fix this. Some people have reported that changing the controller, that fixed it for them. Others have reported that, by opening the envelope and connect directly without cable who fix it for them (to actually buy a USB to IDE kit. Amazon has a lot for about $6). I don't think that the problem are the ports on your computer because you have tried on different computers. The next suspect is the cable.  Make sure the cable you connect your device to the computer working. Try it with a cable that you know works. Once you have check that and still Win can not detect your hard disk, check to see if the BIOS can detect. I don't know how you can access your BIOS on your computer, but is usually by hitting F2 or ESC or F1. Check the screen when your computer starts and yous should see a message on a button to change the BIOS or settings. Once more, when you're in the BIOS, there no way course right to know all your hard drives connected. Just look around and see if you can find it (do not change any settings here. You could make your computer unusable). If the BIOS can detect your hard drive, then it is time to do some work on the victory.
    -Click Start.
    -Type diskmgmt.mscand press ENTER.
-See if you can find it there. Typically, your internal hard drive is described as disk 0. Your external should be disk 1.
-Right click on it and find an option that says Create partition or Format.
