Empty folders in Outlook Express after doing a system recovery.

Original title: Outlook Express recovery.

After a crash the system and recovery (via Microsoft technician), I can access is no longer my email from Outlook Express files and operation.  I can see all files in the folders, I've had, but they are empty.

Probably what happened is that the records. dbx file has likely corrupted as a result of the accident. Have you tried leaving Outlook Express when the accident occurred? If so, it was probably at that time that Outlook Express has been folders.dbx compaction. Folders.dbx is the folder that contains your folder structure and parameters.

You can try the option import in Outlook Express and see if he will bring back your mail in Outlook Express. You will need to use Browse to point Outlook Express in the folder of the store where the corrupt identity. Because you say you can see the folders you must check and note the path of the file to use with browse during the import. I would try to import files simple and not folders.dbx and all subfolders. If you use select all records it after a successful import be warned, you end up with duplicates that it is extremely difficult to eliminate.

Corruption of folder in Outlook Express has been a constant source of grief for users for years. Steve Cochran, a MSVP, developed a tool to retrieve messages and this works well in most cases. The original tool was DbXtract and Steve created later DbXpress. I used DbXtract, but not of DbXpress. If your attempts to use the file, import fail I suggest you try one of these tools.

If you have an installation clean back to factory settings, you normally wiped your hard drive clean during the process.

Recuva is a file undeletion tool that allows you to analyze your hard drives or media cards for files that have been deleted or formatted. It presents you a list of files that have been found, as well as an assessment of their potential for recovery, a preview option, and a hex viewer to inspect the content. You can limit your search to files of a certain type (e.g. images, audio etc.) and choose between a quick and a thorough analysis approach. The program also includes a secure deletion option that allows you to permanently delete files that were found while parsing, to avoid any future recoveries.

Bought a new computer with Windows Home, how can I move the folders of Outlook Express in Windows XP SP3 in Windows Live Mail? Thanks for your help.

Transfer of data from Outlook Express and Windows Live Mail:

    For Messages:

Copy the * ENTIRE * OE message store folder to a flash drive. (Folders.dbx must be included). Place it on the desktop or another location on the computer using WLMail. Open WLMail and: file | Import | Messages | Microsoft Outlook Express 6, and the point where it was saved.

    Location of OE message store:

In OE: Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, Win2K & Win2K3 the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder Options icon | Opinion, or in Windows Explorer. Tools | Folder options | View.

    For addresses:

Open the address book in OE and file | Export | Address book (wab) and save it to the desktop. Copy it to a flash drive. Place it on the desktop or another location on the computer using WLMail.

Open the Contacts list in WLMail, (go |) Contacts in the Menu bar) and the file | Import | Address book (wab) Windows and the point where you saved it.

Note: If you use a CD or a DVD instead of a flash drive, after placing on the new machine you must remove the read-only attribute in the properties before you import.

    For the account settings:

In OE: Tools | Accounts, select the account and export it to the desktop. This will be an .iaf file. Copy it to the new computer and WLMail desktop: tools | Accounts and import the settings from the location you saved the.

  • Microsoft Outlook express Outbox does not transmit messages - Messages remain in the Outbox for ever

When you create new messages, outlook does not transmit messages. They remain in the Outbox for ever

Assuming that you have checked The Send Messages immediately and you get no error message, you may need to the corruption of dbx files.

Spend most of your messages out of the Inbox and then create new folders to send and sent items box after having moved the messages you want to save to a local folder that you create.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files.

With OE closed, find the DBX files for the items in the Outbox and sent and delete them.  New ones will be created automatically when you open OE.

After you're done, followed by compacting your folders manually while working * off * and do it often.

Click Outlook Express at the top of the the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work offline (or double-click on work online in the status bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed.

    General precautions for Outlook Express:

Do not archive mail in the receipt or sent items box. Create your own user-defined folders and move messages you want to put in them. Empty the deleted items folder daily. Although the dbx files have a theoretical capacity of 2 GB, I recommend all a 300 MB max for less risk of corruption.

Disable analysis in your e-mail anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that devours the CPUs, slows down sending and receiving and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting changes and has even been responsible for the loss of messages. Your up-to-date A / V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more information, see:

  • Problem loading in outlook express after changing Internet service providers.

I have recently switch from Verizon to Comcast internet providers.  Since I had problems loading in outlook express.  One in a blue moon, it will actually connect, but more often than not, it does nothing.  It loads in the taskbar upwards and the titles of the mailbox, but if it connects, you can't do anything.  Help I am getting very frustrated.

    Then work on these steps.

    1: create a new Folders.dbx file.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files.

A new Folders.dbx file will be created when you open OE. Note these possible side effects:

When you re - start OE, it will build a new index of all *.dbx files it can read and create a new Folders.dbx. Please understand that you will lose the mail directory structure, all the discussion lists and all synchronization options and message rules will probably have to be edited.

2: do not archive mail in the receipt or sent items box.  Create your own user-defined folders and move messages you want to put in them. Empty the deleted items folder daily. Although the dbx files have a theoretical capacity of 2 GB, I recommend all a 300 MB max for less risk of corruption.

For some programs, turning it off is not enough. You may need to uninstall and reinstall in custom Mode and remove the analysis when e-mail messages.

If all else fails, try a new identity.

You may have a damaged identity especially if it's the default main identity. File | Identity | Add the new identity. Create a new one and try it. If all goes well, you can import your messages and address book from the old identity and delete it.

Note: Do not use the main word in the name of the new identity.

  • Outlook Express 6, doing crazy things ~

I am running Windows XP (which I have no time for her disc) as well as IE 6. My outlook express does things that are crazy. First of all, when I answered or even send e-mail, it happens to my Outbox and it seems that it will not send and I get an error, but no code error not listed for me to research. But I think that it is sent, because people are responding to it. Also, when I get emails in my Inbox, I can't delete them or move them, he said only that a mistake occurred. I don't know how to fix OE. I upgraded to IE 6, thought that would fix it and it didn't. I also installed IE 8 and still no help. Any suggestions?

You have corruption of dbx files.

Spend most of your messages out of the Inbox and move any message you want to save out deleted items and sent items and then close OE.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files.

With OE closed, find and remove:

    Deleted items.dbx
    Sent Items.dbx
    Outbox.dbx

New files will be created automatically when you open OE.

Compact all folders as described below.

To avoid this in the future:

Do not archive mail in the receipt or sent items box.  Create your own user-defined folders and move messages you want to put in them. Empty the deleted items folder daily. Although the dbx files have a theoretical capacity of 2 GB, I recommend all a 300 MB max for less risk of corruption.

  • How to compress the folders of outlook express

My Inbox Outlook express is almost complete (~ 2 GB) and continues to receive new e-mails. I tried to use the function of compression under file. It started OK, copy of the file and compression, then an error msg pops up saying that the file is used by Outlook Express. 1/how to access the file from archive to outlook express,.

    2. I'll be able to compress the archive after the deletion of junk files?

You jumped the gun to fire a little more. What I wanted to do you are to create new folders and move all messages from the Inbox to them and then create a new Inbox. Follow these instructions to recover the old Inbox in OE, so you can move messages to other folders, keep to about 300 MB.

How to restore individual dbx files
    http://www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx#imp1

Once this is done, you can simply delete the old and empty Inbox and then compact. The new folders that you create will be much smaller and without alteration, then they should compact now.

It's the only way to access the folder "archived" except to buy a tool to extract the old messages in the Inbox and place them into folders.
