After waiting more than two years for Apple to upgrade the Mac Mini, specifically to improve my performance of Fusion, Apple disappointed so I have to ask for advice...

What Mac Mini will perform the best with the merger? I would have preferred a new unit but Fusion on an i5 2.53 bicoeur Macbook Pro (max 8 GB) is very slow.

Assuming that the maximum (16 GB) memory, I have a new choice and refurb.

    Model of 2014 (new)

2,8 GHz dual core Intel i5

    J2012 model (refurb)

2.6 GHz quad core Intel i7

Background: Domestic use for the most part, only virtual machine running one of the (Win XP, Vista, 7, 8, or Linux). Occasional local development. Need for the long term.

Yes, it's pretty disappointing, that they do not offer a Mac mini with a Quad-core Intel Core i7 CPU.

Anyway, while I've been running virtual machines since almost 15 years and in the early days, some systems of bare bones gradually however they run them even if at times slowly.  That said even if, today, I would never buy a system without getting as much as I could, and that means that I would not buy any what with less 16 GB of RAM and a Quad - core Intel Core i7 CPU for use with virtualization even if this can be done on the material of the lessor.  Now, I'm talking to my primary system, that I'd be using every day.

  • connection ethernet Mac mini

My Mac Mini (latest model 2014) suddenly stopped to connect to my network home yesterday. I can still connect wirelessly, but not via the ethernet cable.

I tried to connect the Mac Mini to different ethernet ports, without passing through routers and switches and using different cables. But it doesn't go anywhere.

Other computers (Windows) to connect very well to all ethernet ports.

Can someone tell me how I can determine if this is a hardware problem or a software problem?

In Network preferences, he says just "Cable Disconnected".

    Thank you
    Ian

    See:

If the Ethernet on your Mac has stopped working recently - Apple supports

  • Change the hard disk of 1.4 Ghz Mac Mini end of 2014

Good morning Apple community, so here's the problem: I had a voltage breakdown because via the USB port of an EPSON LX - 300 printer, at present when the USB and the Mac Mini contact, ventilation Mac shutoff valve and after a few tries to do turn it finally do. But I see that a gray folder appears with an exclamation mark, then, with my other mac I download OS X El Capitan and do a Booteable USB, after that I enter the utilities disk and found that the "Macintosh HD" was not there and 2 USB 3.0 also didn't work. I picked up at a technical Service allow in my city and have told me that the HARD drive is broken and must be replaced, they say it could be replace by an of a 7200 rpm or 5400 RPM HARD drive RPM HARD drive, also says that couldn't put an SSD. I start research and found it is possible to put an SSD without problem. So my question is that's for sure, so I trust that an SSD will work with flawessly, and that I will also get a big performance improvement.

    My Mac is:

Mac Mini end of 2014 1.4 Ghz 4 GB of RAM, Intel HD 5000 and a 500 GB drive HARD 5400 RPM death.

So, my best regards to the community and hope for a response.

I've been running my 2014 MM off an external SSD with USB 3.0 since the beginning of this year, after a bunch of trial and error; That's what I have:

Unfortunately, I don't have much advice to give you else make sure you have a proper forum for IT. From my experience, the bad speaker will make the difference in whether or not the Mac recognizes the SSD on initialize toward the top.

    Good luck!

  • Mac Mini end of 2014 vs SSD Ram

Hey guys, I just bought the Mac Mini end of 2014. Maybe I should blame myself for not doing some research that I have a model end of 2012 before that. I used to increase the ram myself whenever I need it, it was easy-peasy. So I bought the 2014 version, thinking that it will be the same. But no, the ram is welded on and there is no way that I can upgrade. The mac was bought to an APR, his return is not possible according to the policy of the store.

I understand that if the RAM is not enough, the operating system will use hard disk space instead. So what I intend is to upgrade the HDD to the SSD, I have made the my previous Mac Mini. Just so that it allows to speed up the process and minimize the crash.

Question, this will help solve the problem of ram? Nor can do anything and that's it?

Yes a SSD will improve performance, and partially make up for not enough RAM. However, how well that depends on what applications run you. Some applications are memory intensive and may not show as much improvement

  • Can I change HD SSD in my end of 2014 Mac Mini?

I just bought a Mac Mini (2.6/8/1TB) 2014 end and love it so far. I have a spare Samsung 500 GB SSD (Samsung SSD 840 EVO) that I don't use and I was curious if readers could be exchanged, or better still if the Mac Mini I would be compatible 2 discs? I'd do the boot drive SSD and drive the data reader to say existing 1 TB.

I would need to bring it in a place (MicroCenter, Best Buy, etc.) to make it happen as I'm not comfortable to perform this type of upgrade on an Apple product.  I realize that the guarantee may be honored after that and I'm fine with that.

All the words of wisdom? Can it be done? If this is not the case with my SSD existing so what are my options?

    Thanks to a bouquet.

    -Val

Yes, you can swap disks. No, there is room for a second disc of 2 1/2 in. in the Mini 2014

  • Dell UltraSharp U2415 & Mac Mini (model end of 2014)

I just bought a Dell UltraSharp U2415 monitor and a Mac Mini (end of 2014 model) and am looking for help on how to connect them to benefit fully from the 16:10 report. As I understand it, if I'm going to hdmi to hdmi I get 16:9-1080 p.

I opted for 16:10 model so I can get a little more vertical screen space. Thank you for any assistance that you can pass along.

Unfortunately, Dell does not validate the test / this model of monitor on Apple, ports and software hardware. For this reason, Dell has no troubleshooting steps a lot to offer. You can post on the Forum of Discussions Apple and see what they say. But the resolution and appearance are both depending on the video source. In theory, you should use the CDM to crush on the Mac Mini.
