  The SSD is probably not formatted and mounted as a drive in the system. In other words, it is empty. Right-click on MYPC and choose manage... go to disk management and find the SSD. Make a new simple volume and ntfs format and then assign a letter reader and you'll be good.

  I just bought a HP Envy 750-177c. I have it operational and it works very well. I had installed a Samsung 850 EVO SSD in my old computer and now want to add to it. I have an external cloning device that I can plug it into the computer and launch the software from Samsung to clone the HD HP. Once this is done, I will be able to add the SSD to the drive Bay and make the boot drive. I did all these steps with my old computer, so I think that it will be substantially the same with the RESUME. I wonder if there is any change in the BIOS, that I should do to get the best performance from the drive. I also heard AHCI. Is selectable via the BIOS with Windows 10, or do I have to make some changes by Reg Edit? I need to download a driver AHCI? Is this useful?

  Hi @RobbL!

  When it comes to SSD, I suggest you to activate the AHCI because it often improves performance when it comes to SSDS (and not only - if you are running an SSD and a HARD disk HARD drive will get some push), and it offers a few additional features like connection hot records.

  You can activate it by following these steps:

  * Let the connected existing boot drive.
  * Go to MSCONFIG and set the PC to boot in safe mode.
  * Power cycle your PC all the way to the top in safe mode then power down in safe mode.
  * Turn on and boot into the BIOS and enable the AHCI and disable secure boot. Save the changes.
  * Restart your PC. If OK at this stage then return to MSCONFIG and uncheck start safe mode and save the changes.
  * Turn on your PC and if OK then power off.
  * Connect the new SSD and power upward.
  * Use the cloning software to clone the old disk on the new SSD.
  * Switch off the PC. Disconnect the old drive and plug the new SSD in this SATA port.
  * Lights up and you should be good to go.

  It can be larger than 32 GB, but it is not the boot drive and its only real function is as a cache of acceleration for the main mechanical hard drive, for which really impossible to use something bigger.

I pass the DVI video port old computer and the new port card white screen of same at startup. If I turn the PCIe port disabled in BIOS, it starts with the embedded video, but same thing impossible to load drivers that are not able to locate the new video card hardware. Makes me crazy!   If you want to add an SSD to the laptop, you will need to replace by a SATA III SSD HARD drive.  The HARD drive can replace the optical drive, if you want to keep the HARD disk as the storage.

  See p. 40-42. There are two hard drive bays. You have a 1 TB drive 5400 RPM in one and the other is empty.

  All you need to do is get an SSD. I recommend the Samsung Evo 850:

  I have a major problem with the HP Envy 5530. At first it just prints nothing but scanning was very good. Then one day I got I decided to fix it. I ran a few fixers print spooler and it looks like they just remove a bunch of files. Then I went and deleted the printer drivers in system32. Now when I want to install the HP x 64 base drivers, it gives me an error:

  Error 1722: Cannot add the Port Discovery HP Monitor (HP ENVY 5530 series) port monitor.

  I use 10 64-bit Windows.

  I want my printer to work again. I would like to avoid having to wipe my os.

  Weird things are also underway in the services menu. The "PrintNotify" service is offline with error code 2 and print spooler is running, but when I go to WordPad and try to print it says "Do you want to install a printer now?" and then I click Yes, "Windows can't open Add Printer" the local print spooler service is not running. Please restart the spooler or restart the machine "."

  I want real solutions, as I have tried several of those mentioned in article 'driver install errors' which does not even cover error code 1722.

  This problem has been resolved. I inserted the disc of Windows 10 and did an upgrade on site to keep all applications and settings, but reinstall windows. • Desktop HP Envy h8 - 1420t CTO: problem Samsung SSD causing with upgrading 8.0 to 8.1 Windows

  I can't upgrade my OEM installed Windows 8.0 to 8.1 HP desktop computer.  First, I tried the upgrade when 8.1 was deployed for the first.  It seemed to level OK, but after a reboot I found myself with a black screen... no error message, just a black screen.

  I retried it this morning, but this time it failed with DPC_Watchdog_Exception, then Machine_Check_Exception.  After looking in several forums, I'm "guess" it is maybe disk 0, which is a Samsung 830 Series SSD (model: MZ7PC256 / 0:1, s/n: S0U3NSAC705912 p/n: MZ7PC256HAFU - 000: 1) which has been installed and configured by HP, when I ordered this computer from office in 2012.

  Magician of Samsung software does not recognize this SDS supported a product, but they identify it as a Samsung MZ7PC256HAFU - 000: 1, with Firmware version CXM05H1Q.  I thought I'd see if a firmware update is available, but there is no information about this SSD on the Samsung support site. In addition, HP doesn't offer not just any which firmware for this SSD, not even the original firmware.  What I saw on the internet says that it is a custom SSD OEM which is not taken in charge by Samsung.

  I'm not desperate to upgrade to Win8.1, but I would like to know exactly why the canned upgrade fails.  I have an other available SSD (a Samsung 850 Pro, model: MZ-7KE256BW) that I considered to use to replace the current drive 0, but I hate swapping parts without knowing that this is really the problem.

  I am open to advice. The info on my current system follows. Furthermore, I note that there is no conflict of devices or outdate drivers.

  Don't forget that the W8 is fully updated before upgrading to W8.1. I would suggest to run for a while after the W8.1 update and see if your PC is stable.  If so, then manually a system restore point and then continue the Windows Update process. If your PC is stable after that Windows updates have been applied then manually take another system restore point and proceed to apply the HP recommended software updates for the W8.1 that are posted for your PC.

  Don't listen to this guy. It is a straight copy and paste and that's all. SSDS is supported by anything that uses the SATA interface.

  I'm a 15-j171nr with 8GB and 24 GB SSD cache. Whe I have it set to purchase the Configurator said the cache of 24GO was incompatible with more than 8 GB of RAM.  'Maintenance and Service of Guide' (p/n 733845-001) said the same thing on page 5:

  The additional DIMM module is physically incompatible with the mSATA map, they install in remote locations. I guess it could be a thermal or issue of power but neither part draws a lot of power or generates a lot of heat. This is * not * a problem with software compatibility. How will I know? Because I advanced and installed the extra 8 GB DIMMS and the laptop continues to operate correctly, but now has 16 GB or RAM.

  The question about the upgrade is because when you use the card as a cache mSATA configuring map mSATA and the mechanical drive as a RAID array. I guess when you remove the mSATA card you must rebuild the image of the operating system on the drive of 2.5 inches.

  Some people report if they switch to 16 gigs, they start to become quick start Intel and Intel Rapid Storage errors. If you're not, then you do not experience incompatibility. I think that HP will not sell 16 concerts with the WSSD of 24 concert because if you are using Intel Rapid Start the MSSD has contain the entire contents of the RAM and all the other files that have been stored there for hibernation. 24 concerts can be a little tight. Map of the WSSD is not accessible from the service Bay. It is hidden on the motherboard. You can actually slow down the main drive of the WSSD through the Intel Rapid Storage console. If you have installed 16 gigs and are having no problem just keep using the laptop and count you lucky. If you need assistance more let us know. I have a very similar model: the Envy 17-j029nr and played well with all the features of hard drive so I feel pretty good with her speed.
