  I've got a 2.5 years old Satellite A100. He was going well until recently, when I found that the pc freezes completely - this looks only happen when I move the cursor on the screen. The only thing I can do, it's a hard re-boot.
  The problem has become more common, and I had to reinstall the operating system (using the disc that came with the laptop). After you have reinstalled everything worked well. But all of a sudden the same problem reappeared. I thought maybe it was different software clash between them and so I once again re-formatted the hard drive and reinstalled the operating system.

  Please help - I have been re - install the OS on / off power for 2 weeks now and I still have the problem. I am close to giong out and buy a new PC!

  It's strange, and I think it looks like a hardware issue because you used the disk recovery Toshiba and after that, the same problem occurs.

  But it's not easy to say what causes this problem. You can check the RAM and HARD drive using Drive Fitness Test and Memtest86. Use Google to find the two programs. You can download an image bootable in these two programs. You must burn it to a CD and boot from it.

  I have a Satellite A100-225 with a 100 GB SATA Hitachi drive I int it that recently started showing bad sectors. Then I bought a Hitachi 320 GB SATA II drive to replace it. I tried the drive and it was recognized right away, so I didn't need to change the SATA speed. I ran the restore a disk installed newest. The problem I have is that the computer keeps freezing and crashing with the new drive. It takes a lot of time to load up when turned on and there is a noticeable to untermittant delay when you drag the cards around solo.

  I tried to run the Hitachi drive test and it comes back fine. I also tried to turn the SATA speed of the drive down from 300 to 150 via the firmware, and although I saw a slight improvement, it is still not right.

  I talked to Hitachi and they say that he could not be 100% compatible, so the problems. Someone at - it else sucessfully set up a replacement for this notebook drive and if so what make and model. Has anyone else had simular problems?

  Years ago, I've updated yet more former Satellite M70 with SATA HDD (270 GB if I m remembering well) and everything was fine.
  In my view upgrade with SATA HDD normal shouldn't be a problem. Do not SATA II because it will not work faster.

  You cannot convert only a RGB (VGA) signal to component (Y-Pr-Pb), since you will need a converter that transforms the signal vga to this component.

  For me it looks like you might have a motherboard problem. Formatting removes the chance that it is a software problem. Try taking 1 stick of RAM and test with it.   Thank you! I tried what you mentioned, nothing has worked... I plugged a usb keyboard and it works, so I'm starting to believe it could be a motherboard problem. I finally got windows xp pro installed, no conflicts in Device Manager, all the drivers are installed and now running smooth. I removed the keyboard, and re-set, all connections look good, but still not good. the synaptics keyboard works fine and both rt & lft click the buttons. I pulled the ram to inspect it, it's the right speed, ddr2700, and after running for an hour, it was cold to the touch! I'll try to get a new keyboard and replace it, their pretty good work, if still not good it becomes pieces on ebay... lol tx again... Marty
