Equium A200-1V0: DVD-RAM UJ-850 s does not read data discs
My laptop seems to have decided to stop reading data disks.
However, there is no problem with the audio CD, but when I insert a data disc such as the software considers the disk is empty and try to format the drive.
I searched internet day for solutions and tried without success to the following:
Removed the UpperFilters and LowerFilters in the registry.
Uninstalled and reinstalled drivers.
Bought DriverWhiz (waste of money!)
Tried to access disc command prompt that generated the message "incorrect function".
Tried to use the enforcement function and access an exe file that I know is on the disk, but it comes up saying I need to format the drive
Uninstall service packs
I even thought it might be something to do with the MagicVirtual drive I had installed so I uninstalled completely which
I uninstalled real player
I'm about 3 minutes to destroy my laptop so any help would be appreciated.
Laptop: Equium A200 - 1V0
Drive DVD - RW: MAST * a DVD-RAM UJ-850 s ATA
OS: Windows Vista
Deleting upper and lower filters was the first idea that I'd like to share with you, but it seems that you have already tried this solution proposal
How about windows boot CD or a linux live CD?
Is this possible?
If not then I thing that the question could be linked to the wrong material work I m thinking on the issue of laser lenses eventually the laser lens can not calibrate properly and this could be a problem
In this case, only a replacement CD/DVD drive can help greet
Hey I have a laptop Equium only around the age of 4 months.
Had nothing but problems with the CARPET * A DVD-RAM UJ-850 s ATA Device drive.
I need to know where I can get the update of the firmware.
Firmware for it, that she will not read blank media.
I agree with master... I don't know what kind of problems you have, but if the player doesn't work properly, it must be replaced. The warranty is certainly valid and the nearest authorized can help you with it.
Maybe you made a mistake. Take your laptop to the nearest service and show them what you mean exactly. Here, we can only speculate what may be your problem.
I have problems with my dvd player Mat * a UJ - 850 s (firmware 1.40)
Randomly, he's not reading certain dvd or cd.
I called Toshiba support and they asked me to update the firmware.
I explained that there are 3 updates of firmware for a player of TSS (NEC) DVD from Toshiba Web site but * NOTHING * for MAST * A
They asked me to install the Toshiba disc reboot before sending to repair. Today I had time to fix it, but it does not read the startup disk!
So I ask for Toshiba to publish an update of firmware for Mat * a UJ - 850 s
What you mean under some CD or DVD?
It is well known that something like this can happen. Because of this if you write here on self made CD/DVD, use empty brackets just high quality.
I'm a big supporter of Toshiba product.
Please help me
Given that I had to do to update form my * Toshiba Qosmio G20-123 *.
My * DVD UJ-845 s * do not read any CD or DVD.
Before that, he worked a lot of good. But unfortunately now, he does ' t read anything.
The system to recognize it. The driver is installed and working properly.
After I installed supports DVDRAM of Toshiba.
The same thing occurs when playing a CD, the system tells me:
* E: / not accessible *.
* incorrectness function *.
I try with a program on the net but no way.
I was well able to put the original firmware, but I could not find.
If someone can do a dump of the original Firmware for me it will be a miracle for me.
My great respect.
I think I can help you:
Go to my computer right click on the CD/DVD drive.
Now go to properties; Click the Recording tab and check "Enable CD writing on this drive".
Now click on apply and restart the laptop.

ago nero essential is installed in my laptop, I sort my problem that I did not use my dvd rw for many months, because of which some dust particles accumulated on the lens, and when I cleaned it with clean cloth, it worked, and now my dvd rw works properly, anyway thanks for your help @vijin v...
I use my Equium A200 1V0 laptop with Vista Home Premium, and whenever I try to watch a DVD using the preinstalled Toshiba DVD Player software, I get the following error...

display the buttons on the unit by pressing the Fn + F5 after the end of the application. »
I do not have an external monitor, and have never had a. (By pressing the Fn + F5 buttons does not work, because...) I have not attached external devices!)
The software used to work properly, and I have not changed the settings at all.
I have now tried to reinstall with the latest download from Toshiba, but the problem remains.
Any thoughts would be accepted with gratitude.
I found a boyfriend of the solution.
I searched simply here in the forum and found this thread!
Jack Black has posted a link to a useful Toshiba doc that says that this error is related to the Realteck sound driver.
Update the audio driver and you must solve this problem!
cannot find answers to my problem, so start a new topic.
Having Satellite A100-011 with Vista preinstalled and Mat * a DVD - RAM UJ-850 s (firmware 1.10).
Recently installed Nero 7.5.9 and you want to burn DVD (6, 5 GB) media dual layer (Immation - Ritek).
First time Nero stopped with information: could not perform start of Disc At Once (without damaging the media).
After that, run Nero as Windows XP - SP2 program and burn half the disc (first layer), but when to start to burn the second layer (I guess), stop once again with the same error information (could not perform start of DAO).
Simple disc burning layer without problem.
Anyone any idea how to solve this problem?
tried to record double-layer of a different brand? Maybe you should try it, because sometimes certain brands are not really taken in charge or not very well. And check the toshiba (or google) pilot site for new drivers or firmware for this drive, sometimes that it really helps.
I think that the media are not really compatible, I ve read some similar problems in the roxio forum and they solved by using another brand.
Would be nice if you give some information on this case... :)
MY CD/DVD DRIVE DOES NOT READ ANY READABLE DISK ALL OF A SUDDEN.
I DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS.
I CAN HEAR THE COMPUTER TRYING TO READ BUT IT ME SAID JUST THAT HE HAS NO DISC INSERTED OR THAT THE DISC IS BLANK WHEN ITS CLEARLY NOT.
IT would NOT be RETURNING to PLAY AUDIO CD IN iTUNES or WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER.
Step 1: Please do all the same underneath if you did some before as is often total
a process that solves the problem.
Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double click on the device - driver tab.
Click on update drivers (this will probably do nothing) - RIGHT click ON the drive - uninstall.
RESTART this will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue
Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a coward
cable or slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.

Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then check the cables
both ends. Remove and replace, do not just tight. For laptops, you can often clean power
and contacts data with a pencil eraser.
Some DVD players do not use the Windows default drivers so check with the system manufacturer
and the manufacturer of the device to see if there is a firmware or drivers for your drive if necessary.
Step 2: You have disc problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD & DVD

do it right.

I am owner of a Satellite M30X - 122 Notebook with Mat * one reader CD DVD-RAM UJ-820 s.
In recent weeks the disc suddenly stops working during normal use, no error message, in Windows XP System Device Manager all entries are ok, the drive is enabled and visible.
!! Optical media access LED lites permanently, so that the reader is always available!
I have tried using different CD, reboot Notebook, removing battery State is always the same, LED blinks several times then it lites permanent.
After a few hours this phenomenon disapperars and I can use the drive without any problems. ! It is very annoying!
Someone at - it experience with this problem? Please let me know.
Don't you think that the drive needs to be replaced?
In this case (I tried a Mat * a DVD - RAM UJ-820 s on the www, I found none just renovated, new readers) does anyone know where to get a new, or a compatible UJ-820 s drive.
Thanks in advance.
Have a good evening.
I don't know where you live and can not recommend any PC shop but you can order it by the authorized service partner.
You can also view s manuals for Satellite M30X, and page 5, you will find a list of all compatible optical disk drives. Do not buy the same but much better if you want. I hope that this info will help you find the new drive.
Troubleshooting I can't say a lot. Try to remove the device from Device Manager and reboot the device and test again but with original media only. Make sure that you can see the contents of the CD or DVD using Windows Explorer.
If nothing is done check for replacement.
Hi, I'm Natalie and I need help with my problem that occurs.
Windows XP Home Edition
Laptop Toshiba Satellite
Multi recorder drive: CD and DVD
The problem that happens is that I can not get any CD or DVD to work when I put them. What is happening is he's trying to load but makes the window "Not responding", unless I have the disc, then everything will be fine. What is also involved, is that I can't burn discs at all, at any speed.
Also, I would add, when I go to my computer > right click on the DVD - RAM drive > properties and under the general tab it states:
Type: CD player
file system: unknown
I don't know if that's the problem...
Can someone help me?
Please check in the Device Manager to see if there is a problem with your optical drive. Normally this will be displayed as an exclamation point against the device.
The fact that the file system is listed as "unknown" is because the drive could not read the format of the disc so that Windors Explorer cannot identify any file structure.
Your problem could be something very simple like a lens dirty or a faulty device driver. It is not easy to tell from your description exactly what can be wrong, but I would say you try some of the easy options so try first to clean the lens, and if this does not resolve your problem, then try to remove the drive (Device Manager) and reboot for the device will be installed new.
If all else fails, you will have checked player be an authorized Service partner.
I have a laptop Tecra A8 with Mat * un DVD - Ram UJ - 841 s. This device is not read / burn any disc. However, Mat * one bed the recovery CD at startup.
I tried everything: I deleted the registry entries (lower and upper), I uninstalled Ant again once the driver installed... but it doesn't work. Any help?
In addition to the fact that you can boot from the Toshiba Recovery CD, I think that it s a problem of training material
I think it's a matter of calibration of lens readers possibly the lens can not calibrate correctly in the right position of s, and this is why the drive can't handle the inserted media.
This could be the worst case, because this fault is repairable by replacing the drive.
I mast * one DVD-ram UJ-820 s, who do not read my DVD but reads CD. I reinstalled my OS to see changes, even without hope. I burned an operating system on a DVD and try to boot from the DVD and somehow it works, but when it goes to windows it stop reading any disc and shows me that the disc is empty.
Any suggestions please?
Did you receive any error messages?

Hi everyone, I'm a little crazy for my dvd player, about 14 months I bought my 3rd toshiba laptop already.
In the first (Satellite 5200) dvd player (combodrive with installation of dvd ram built in) has not already after a few months. I brought this back to Toshiba customer service twice and replace that thing (mast * a) twice as well... Then, the player broke down again.
With the new Toshiba, I bought (Qosmio G20) I just got the same problems, dvd and cd function work correctly sometimes (unfortunately sometimes not as well), but the player (mast * a UJ-845 s, DL DVDwriter) recognizes not all all DVD ram.
I hope someone can give me a hand with this problem, I'm really a little crazy about it now, and I don't want to keep running and visit the Toshiba Service Center every 2 / 3 months for the rest of my life...
Thanks a lot anyway!
Best regards, Erik
It is very strange that you have problems with sides. Over the past 7 years, I worked on 5 different Toshiba laptops and I, but really never had no problem with the chance. I always use the same empty media TDK (DVD-R, DVD - RW and DVD-RAM). Everything works fine.
I have always taken out of pre-installed software and use Nero since the beginning. I really put t understand why the DVD-RAM media are not recognized, but please do not forget the DVD-RAM driver is pre-installed correctly.
Have you noticed that with the factory settings?
My laptop recently stopped recognizing blank, or I burned when I put them in the DVD player.
The drive is a CARPET * a DVD-RAM UJ-820 s and it was working fine until last week when I tried to use the ASHAMPOO Burning software.
He does not even recognize any MOVIE DVD I put in the drive, but it doesn't seem to have a problem with a music CD, I tried.
Someone to help they could offer cause I'm running out of space and I really want to delete my files.
It looks a bit like a malfunction of the equipment. Maybe the lens of the drive can not calibrate correctly.
Have you tried to delete the upper and lower filter registry entries?
Try it. Sometimes such procedure can simply bring the reader to life.
The detailed procedure and description has been published here in the article Microsoft Knowledge base:
