  You can create a bootable XP Recovery CD of Console and replace the file, but it may be easier for you to make boot CD of a Hren.

  When you start the Hiren's CD, choose the XP Mode of Mini and it has an interface in XP style Explorer where you can find and replace the winlogon.exe suspicious or missing file.

  There should be a copy of winlogon.exe here:

  c:\Windows\System32\dllcache

  Rename your current c:\windows\system32\winlogon.exe file (if it exists) and copy / paste the replacement of c:\windows\system32\dllcache.  If you do not see here, search your HARD drive and find one.  Another possibility (depending on your environment) is c:\windows\ServicePackFiles\i386, or c:\i386 d:\i386...

  You just need to replace the file winlogon.exe somehow.

  When you are finished replacing, restart as usual (remove the CD bootable of course).

  With the help of Hiren, you can also copy offshore on an external device (USB key or HARD drive), all personal security files.

  My machine (Dell Dimension 3100 with XP Home) home is set for automatic recovery of Windows updates. I reload often, but when I was forced to start again last week, I got the blue screen of death. Apart from the general BSOD error message, I got the stop code:

  I forgot the subsequent stop codes, but search recall I was doing on them indicated drivers disk or storage-related problem.

  I ran all sorts of Dell diagnostics on my hardware, get absolutely no problem. Scan of a viral infection was also negative. A colleague help out me suggested removing the updates of Windows of April, he did help and usefulness of the ERD. XP loaded and started after that, if I had to go through a process of slooow restart for most updates. My office also now charge many times slower - I suspect drivers and services can't find what they expect to find and take considerable time to make mistakes.

  My Dell has a range of Intel (RAID-1) matrix installed. I strongly suspect that this pilot was in trouble after the April update Windows Update.

  So, what should I do to prevent this from happening again? I don't know the specific fix involved. I have disabled the automatic updates for now.

  Hi, I think I got a bad virus on my computer that's all waste.  First of all, it all started when I clicked on a link, while the Christmas on Black Friday shopping. Then I got a download of unwanted software, called system difficulty, (the small icon of Windows) I could not use system restore to remove, whenever I tried to use it, it says cannot restore on this point. Could sail in safe mode and tried to fix it with antivirus software, found 26, abducted, ran spybot search and destroy, found nothing. Still no joy.   JoseIbarra is the expert resident on the Recovery Console and chkdsk/r. I'll track down his instructions. If the malware is responsible for the BSOD, I do not think that chkdsk /r will help, but it won't hurt. Or you might need to repair your boot.ini file.

You can use it to perform a clean installation of XP or a repair installation of XP (chances are, you won't ever need to perform a repair installation, but it is nice to have this option) or to enter the Recovery Console to perform functions such as chkdsk/r.

  I use windows XP service Pack 3.  I changed my diet over yesterday with a few errors when trying to start finally started. subsequently had some problems with a freeze up. tried to restart and got the blue screen of death with errors. re installed powersupply old got it up and running again.   Error code 0 x 0000005 usually indicates some sort of a permissions problem.  I have no idea how this would bind to a socket well!

  If it works sometimes, if you play inside, do you think you may have a poor connection or loose somewhere?  Are you able to just unlug and reconnect / reinstall everything will be cancelled (without using too much force)?  Just do one thing at a time, so you don't mix...  Unplug it, plug it back, unplug the next thing, plug it back, etc.  You reinstall RAM and video card if you have one in a crack - out them one at a time, put them immediately from whence they came.

  Here's how to start debugging of a BSOD.

  Please provide additional information on your system:

  What is your system brand and model?

  What is your Version of XP and the Service Pack?

  Describe your current antivirus and software anti malware situation: McAfee, Symantec, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, MSE, Panda, Trend Micro, CA, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, Comodo, etc..

  The question was preceded by a loss of power, aborted reboot or abnormal termination?  (this includes the plug pulling, buttons power, remove the battery, etc.)

  The afflicted system has a CD/DVD drive work?

  You have a true bootable XP installation CD (it is not the same as any recovery CD provided with your system)?

  Your system seems to start OK and then crash or didn't he start not at all?

  If you can start with Partition Wizard cd without blue screening, you can simply adjust the setting of the SATA/AHCI Mode IDE BIOS to install XP.

  Hi, I really really need help. I have a Dell Optiplex 330 with windows xp pro. I tried to restore to an update of the service pack, and while he was complete I got this blue screen.   Symptoms: Booted computer, loaded the raid drivers and showed at the start screen XP for half a second then to BSOD with a Stop error Code 0x0000007E - see also a lot of users (0xC0000001D, 0 x-, etc.) as well.

  Solution:

  1 boot from your Windows XP CD and start the recovery console. You may need to press F6 while RC loads in order to load the SATA drivers. you will have a prompt c:\WINDOWS to the console.

  2. type: CD $NtUninstallKB977165$ \spuninst (it's the update, I had to uninstall to get out of the boot loop, other updates can be uninstalled by changing the name of the directory to $NtUninstallKBCODE$, where KBCODE is the code KB)

  3. type: BATCH spuninst.txt

  4. type: exit

  Don't forget to configure your system to boot from the HD before resuming. I hope this helps. Saved me a lot of hassle today.

  The error is IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.

  I guess that's somehow connected to the tv tuner card.

  I tried to restore the system - not good. After the restoration for some time, it was OK. But then again appeared BSOD.

  I think it's a memory problem!

  The BSOD I get says:

  A problem has been detected and windows has shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
  If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. Check the configuration of your hard drive and check the updated drivers. Run CHKDSK /f to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.   I suggest you run the check disk (chkdsk) of the Recovery Console & check if you are able to boot to the desktop correctly.

  Step 1: To start the Recovery Console, you can follow this link.

   

  To start the computer and use the Recovery Console

  Step 2: At the Recovery Console prompt, type the following command and then press ENTER:

  CHKDSK [/ p]: [/ r]

  Note: At first, try to run chkdsk/p & check if it helps. Later, you can run chkdsk/r.
