Equium L300 CD/DVD Drive no longer reads disks

There is already a thread with a similar problem to this with a different model, but it seems to be dead.

The reader of CD/DVD on my Equium L300-148 now refuses to read the discs. It seems to burn yet, which is odd.
That means the laser has not burned, and drivers seem to work fine.

I see the drive in the Solution Explorer, and I can eject it with the context menu.
I tried a "Disable" then "enable" in the Device Manager, but I have not tried to uninstall the drive and then restarting.

Any help would be apreciated.

Is the CD/DVD drive is able to read the Toshiba Recovery disk?
Have you tried to boot from the Toshiba Recovery disk and then reinstall the OS?
Please check this!

If it of possible to read the recovery disc then the STRANGE is not defective and eventually he only s software problem.

Notes; boot from the recovery disk will format the whole HARD drive and will set the laptop to factory setting!

    Hello

in 'My computer', it shows the drive as being there for the dvd/cd etc, and when you put a disc in it makes all the noises whirring that it starts to read, but they are actually not autostart or anything and you do not see them on the screen 'my computer '.

It lists just like the normal reader, as thoough, that nothing was in it.

Double clicking on it does nothing at all, nor open or explore.

    Any ideas please?
    Thank you.

    Hello

There is a general solution but it doesn't work still, but in my opinion it s no doubt worth a try.

First of all, you need to remove the drive from Device Manager.
Simply access the Device Manager, mark the CD/DVD drive and remove it from the list of devices.

In addition, you will need to access the registry using the regedit command.
There, you have to completely remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters from the following registry key values:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Finally, restart the laptop and wait until the CD/DVD has been recognized again.

  • My dvd drive doesn't read disks?

I'm on Windows XP Edition family with Media Center and endowed of all three service packs and updates.  The drive is a Sony DVD + RW DW Q58A.

I tried a disc of data of a show, I was in, but the disc won't admit there is data on the disc in the drive.  I tried the all new factory install disks (who worked three weeks when I installed new hardware, they came with), CDs from multiple manufacturers that I myself, had burned the original factory delivers Bo to my favorite show on CD and even the recorded data files drive my friend saved for me.  None of them would play; I continue to see the DVD - ROM icon go to a disk, but it shows 0 bytes free and total 0 bytes, IF it bothers recognize the drive at all.  I can't open the disk in Windows Explorer; There is nothing except an empty window.

~ I did the thing to uninstall/reinstall device; no luck

~ I tried to update/restore to the driver; the one I have is the only integer

~ I tried the Mr FixIt option, but still HE always tells me that my disks are not readable, although I know full well they should be.  The only thing I can think of that may have messed with things is that I accidentally deleted my CD burning software pre-installed.  However, I did go back and redownload/install, so that shouldn't be a problem.

    * Update: I managed to somehow get a frying play-off-the Bo TV disc once out of maybe 15 times, I tried to play it.  The spinning drive and it will read the disk enough to tell me the name of the song and its duration, but Mr FixIT don't like this drive if I try and run the automated thing.

I think it's time for a new drive, but I hope I can kickstart it to life.  Any suggestions would be helpful.

Hi, I had the same problem and very frustrated as my CD/DVD stoped working after an update by Microsoft, it wouldn't read any CD or burn anything.  I had no chance after trying all the solutions offered by Micorsoft.

I tried my laptop manufacturing couple of times and had no answer, finally I got an email from those who proposed the solution. My problem was solved following in their footsteps, and I hope it solves the current problem of other frustrated users who tried the Microsoft solution and are always looking for an answer.  I copy and paste the exact observation of my e-mail.

"For this issue, first remove the WEIRD Device Manager device and then analyze the change for a trial.

So again, please load by default in the BIOS as follows. Please turn on the laptop. As soon as you see the ASUS logo to enter the BIOS, press F2. Then press F9 to load the BIOS default. Then save and exit and then restart the laptop.

Can someone help me solve the problem?

    Hello

The problem looks like a compatibility problems between the CD/DVD player and the discs used
I had this problem several times, but since using the disc TDK R questions is never appeared again.
So I agree with Luke and recommend that you try other discs.

    In addition you must remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters completely from the following registry key values: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

  • CD/DVD drive does not read discs on Equium A100

My cd/dvd drive does not read any discs be it, white, written or commercially written. It opens and closes and is light to show that he is working on. Device Manager indicates that the device is functioning properly.

Tried the update of drivers, no update available. Tried restoring the system back 1 day and 1 week and 1 month, then and still the problem cannot be corrected. When I put a cd/dvd in the drive and try to access it, it says: D:\ is not accessible. The request could not be performed because of an i/o device error.

Can someone help me I tried everything my friends and I can think, or is it better to send just to toshiba warranty.

If the solution proposed by James will not help, you should try to remove the drive to CD/DVD in Device Manager.
After phone restart the operating system will recognize and initialize the disk again.
After this review of the procedure if you can read, write the middle.

    Hello

That means only one disc can be read from your laptop and all other disks can be read properly? Well, in my opinion, it could be a disc problem, maybe it's striped s and so it can t be read to all readers.

In your case, I would try to clean the lens of your CD/DVD drive. Therefore, you can use a microfibre cloth.

    HELP PLZ

    Hello

Step 1: Please do all the same underneath if you did some before as is often total
a process that solves the problem.

Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double click on the device - driver tab.
Click on update drivers (this will probably do nothing) - RIGHT click ON the drive - uninstall.
RESTART this will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue
    below.

Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a coward
cable or slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.

Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then check the cables
both ends. Remove and replace, do not just tight. For laptops, you can often clean power
and contacts data with a pencil eraser.

Some DVD players do not use the Windows default drivers so check with the system manufacturer
and the manufacturer of the device to see if there is a firmware or drivers for your drive if necessary.

    ===============================

Step 2: You have disc problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD & DVD
Burn and CD and DVD read). So it is not unusual for 1 or 2 operational so that other parts
    do it right.

Did you follow the Troubleshooting Guide for the reader who still does not work? There are
the entries in registry that the troubleshooter does not solve and those who "might" be the cause.

  • Equium A100: CD/DVD drive wont read - D:\ error message is not accessible

    Hello.

My cd/dvd rw drive will not read certain DVD/CD-ROM. I bought my equium (A100 I think) laptop, nine less than a year ago and have had this problem since I got it. The disk which do not work on the laptop work fine on another pc / dvd players, if the disc is not defective. At first I thought that it would be a driver issue because some of the disc worked fine, so I never got the laptop back to the store I bought.

A message appears "D:\ is not accessible. The request could not be performed because of an i/o device error".

I recently just got internet installed in my house and I went to the toshiba site to see if there are newer drivers that would solve this problem. I downloaded a bios update and an update of dvd ram and installed, but am still having the same problem.

Can someone help me cause am totally stuck on what to do now.
    Thank you.

    Hello

As you have probably not known the CD/DVD drive support not all backgrounds.
In the user manual, you will find a list of supported CD and DVD

But I assume that you are the reader cannot read certain media because of the impure registry as this other thread mentioned:

Please check that the user holmdps has solved this same problem.

Since it is not recognized in the BIOS, which means that the reader could have failed, there is a possible cable or

It s not so expensive, I know it cost about 30 euros ;)

  • External DVD drive no longer recognized

I have been using an external DVD drive for HP for years. About 2 months ago I finally exchanged my tragically old iMac for a recent model directly on the Apple Store and have been using the DVD player with it successfully. I do not use the everyday player, but I use it regularly.

Last night, I put a DVD in the drive, and it worked fine. Later, I got another in the drive and nothing. The drive spins up and down constantly, but the Finder does not recognize anything. Any DVD doesn't appear in the sidebar or on the desktop, the DVD player application does not start. There is simply nothing.

When it happened first, I removed the disc that would not play and put in the previous drive who previously worked. It worked again, so I leave the app, ejected Disc #1 and put the #2 drive in. #2 drive still does not work and has no other disk since. Not #1, not disk #2 disk, no disc worked. I tried to put in an old OS 10.6 Snow Leopard install DVD just to see if the iMac would recognize it, but it's not.

I tried to disconnect & reconnect the drive by connecting the drive directly to the iMac instead of in the USB hub, restarted the iMac with a DVD in the drive, etc., but nothing works. System Profiler recognizes not that the player is even when it has a disk in it and turning. Disk utility does not recognize anything.

I did not perform any software updates or any setting between replace disc #1 Disc #2. Something that worked a minute literally stopped working and I have no idea why.

While it is true that the DVD player can have mechanical problems, I don't think so and I have no way to test this because I don't have another computer I can plug the drive in. And really, it sounds like a software problem. The drive does not sound hard, or anything like that. I think that the drive reads discs, but the iMac just does not see any longer, so the reader just guard spinning up and down, waiting to be recognized.

Apologies if other threads have taken into account this. I searched, but I have not found any matches.

Please make a LANDAU and SMC reset by iMac SMC and PRAM reset and then test again.
