You must encrypt the drive with FileVault first. Then just delete. Apple now uses SSDS in most of their machines and these drives don't support secure erase.

  • Erase the data on the iPhone

I activated "Erase data after 10 failed attempts" on my iPhone but I want to limit the number of attempts for just 4 or 5.  How can I do?

It is not an option to do so. You should consider your objective by increasing the complexity of your access code (i.e. change 4 digit to 6-digit or a numeric or alphanumeric code custom). See use a password with your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch - Apple Support

You can also suggest to Apple that they saw the addition of an option to change the number of attempts: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

  • Last updated iPhone erased all my notes!

The last (pushed) iPhone update erased all my NOTES.  How to recover?

    Hi jmontalbano,

Looks after update of iOS, you're missing all your notes in the application Notes. I use my Notes app all the time. I'll be happy to help you with this.

The first thing I would ask you to check is to make sure that you are connected to iCloud on your iPhone and the Notes is turned on. Go to settings > iCloud > Notes.

If you are connected, if it please you then connect to iCloud from a computer and check to see if you see your notes listed in there. If see you them, please go back to the iPhone and sign on iCloud then restart the iPhone and then sign in iCloud and see if they start to load. If you have made a recent backup in iCloud or iTunes, you can also restore from a backup.

  • trying to erase macmini, but losing internet

I need to delete my old MacMini, but the internet is not connected when I

Turn it back on. My service provider said that it is a product problem?

    Thank you

Why do you need Internet to erase the hard drive? According to your profile you are running Snow Leopard on your Mini. So, see the following:

    Snow Leopard erase and install

Remember to only back up your files.

    1. Insert the Snow Leopard DVD in the optical drive and restart the computer.
    2. Immediately after hearing the chime hold down the C key.
    3. Release the button when the Apple logo appears and wait for loading to complete.
    4. After the installer loads, choose your language and click on the continue button. When the menu bar appears select utility drive in the Utilities menu.  After disk utility charges select the entry out-bumpy in the list aside (mfgr. size ID and disc drive.)  In the right side of the disk utility window, click the Partition tab.  Set the number of sheets to (1) on the menu drop down. Click the Options button and select GUID, click on OK, the value of the Mac OS Extended journaled format type. Finally, click on the apply button.
    5. Once the format is complete, quit disk utility.  Continue with the installation of OS X and follow the directions.
    6. Once installation is complete, the computer will restart in the installation wizard. After completing the Setup Wizard, you will use a new installation of Snow Leopard. Open the software update and install updates recommended.
    7. If you plan to sell or to give to your remote computer, then proceed as follows: once you reformat your hard disk and reinstall Snow Leopard, the computer restarts with a welcome screen. To leave the Mac in a State OOTB (Out Of The Box), do not continue with the Setup program. Instead, press the command and Q keys to stop the computer. The installation wizard will guide you the new owner through the installation procedure, after that it turns on the computer.
    8. Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 v1.1 updated Combo. If necessary. It is not necessary if you are selling or giving your computer away.
  • Erase an iMac of 2008 to give

I try to erase an old iMac to give to friends. It's an iMac 20 inches at the beginning of 2008. I tried to follow the instructions from apple, but I can't go back to the operating system that it had when I bought first it. He keeps insisting on the relocation of El Capitan and using my Apple ID. I need to get at least to a place where a new apple ID could be created and associated with this computer.

I have my OS 10.4 install disc, but it wont let me run. I can not OS X Internet recovery to do something else than trying to reinstall my software. I started upward on an external drive; on a drive flash; erased and reformat the drive many times and I cannot clear the checkpoint.

I am happy to leave El Capitan over there, but I want the machine under my Apple ID.

  • E-mails cannot be erased

My emails cannot be erased on the scroll bar.  What should I do?

Try resetting your device. This will not erase your data stored on that device.

    • Press and hold the sleep/wake button
    • Press and hold the Home button
    • Press and hold both buttons until the display turns off and on again with the Apple logo on the subject.

Alternatively, you can go to settings - general - reset - Reset all settings

  • Photos on the iPhone 6, that I can't erase

Inadvertently shortly after I bought my iPhone 6 lots of photos of my Mac Mini was downloaded to the phone.  I now have about 50 old photos on the phone I want to erase and I do not understand how to do it.  I asked representatives in Apple at the Covent Garden in London, and they're baffled too.  The photos are not recognized by "Image Capture" and the trash icon is grayed out and it says in 'Edit' the photo is not editable.  Photos later (after October 2014) are erasable.

    Any suggestions?

All the symptoms apply to photos synced with iTunes sync Photo (see part 2 of this help file: keep your photos safely stored and updated on all your devices - Apple Support)

If the photos have synced by iTunes can be deleted or modified, nor that they are visible in the Image Capture.

If this is the case, sync your iPhone with iTunes, but select this option to sync photos to an empty album to your photo library.

  • Erase the iPhone 6, iOS 10 to negotiate?

I was in a hurry and do not pay attention to all the steps when I was preparing my phone to trade. I disabled the parameter "Find my iPhone" and then "erased all content and settings", then packaged upward and sent to Verizon. I didn't sign icloud first.

My question is, I'm having a problem?

No, if you have disabled find my iPhone. You can check it out by going to iCloud.com on a computer, open find my iPhone and see if your device is still on display. This it is, and it is connected to Wifi, you can select it and delete it again. It will ask you your password ID Apple/iCloud, and which will disable and erase the device. If you remove an instrument - this means that find my iPhone has been disabled. I wouldn't remove the device at this point.

Once you are sure that Verizon is to have no problem with your device, you can then remove it from your iCloud account. But better not to do it until you get the all clear on their part. Easier to solve the problem if you are always bound...

    See you soon,.

Secure erase is not necessary if you use FileVault to encrypt the drive. In addition, do not use any fix erase secure on an SSD.
