Error 1706 and restore Windows to previous state

I have a 1706 error regarding a photo program pre-installed on my computer Dell in 2006.

Search on the site Web of the seller said to find a particular .msi file and run the installation program that him, but a search of my computer files shows that I do not have this file.

I searched the Internet and somewhere it was proposed to restore Windows to a previous state.  But when I do that, I get a message that the restore has not been made, and no changes have been made to my computer.

I ran a registry repair, but that did not help.

I have 2 separate problems here?  A Setup error AND a computer restore the question?  Or are they related in some way?

You won't get any early responses constantly asking the same question (4 times in 4 minutes).

I suggested that as a first step, you use the function "UNDO" - if available - in the program that you used to do the repair 'Register' and then uninstall and throw this program.  See http://chris.pirillo.com/are-registry-cleaners-safe-to-use/ , http://www.edbott.com/weblog/2005/04/why-i-don ' t-use - Registry cleaners / and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2563254

It seems that if you attempt to uninstall (or perhaps fix) an application program.  The MSI file is the Microsoft Installer file used to install the application in the first place.  The same file is also used to uninstall or repair the installation.  If this file was deleted a long time ago (or maybe even never present in the disk image of Dell that was used for the manufacture of your computer), System Restore won't help (don't).  System Restore is not a panacea.

The usual method to solve problems in uninstalling applications is to install the application (which is to replace the missing msi file) again and then uninstall it.  Unfortunately, this does not work in all situations because some applications refuse to install if the old version is still present.  There are alternative methods - if uninstalling the app, that's what you try to do.

It is possible that if you explain what you are trying to accomplish, someone may be able to provide a suggestion.

To increase the probability of getting help, please provide the full text of the error message, and the name and version of the photo program.  Also, please provide the version of Windows you have, including the service pack (click right my computer and select properties for this info).  Because you have a Dell, provide your Number of Service Dell could also help.

  • Satellite P750/P755 - backup and restore Windows 7

    Hello

My hard drive is about to fail on my Windows 7 Satellite P750; I get warnings of impending failure for a month now. I bought a hard drive again, and he's ready to go, but I am unable to create a backup and restore point. I get an error message 0 x 81000037: "snapshots of files cannot be read.

Let me give you a part of the history of my machine before we get to the question. Windows 7 is pre-installed on this machine. A year ago, I created a new partition and installed Linux. Linux then took over the responsibilities of the boot. A couple of weeks, I deleted the Linux partition. This gave me a problem because the computer could not start. Fortunately I had recently created a return upwards and the restore point, and during the process, I was asked if I wanted to create a Windows 7 Home Premium repair disc. I could use this CD to access a command line tool that makes the new bootable machine.

However, I have more a hidden on my machine boot partition (at least according to the disk management snap-in I'm not). Now, I get the above error when I try to create a new backup and restore point. I don't have a copy of the previous backup and restore point (I deleted it to make room for a new).

From my research, apparently, one of the possible causes of the error 0 x 81000037 is related to the size of the hidden boot partition. Because I do not have the hidden boot partition I fear this could be the cause.

There are other possible causes of this error. For example, a virus that the antivirus refuses to give access to during the back up and restore the partition, and junction points in to save readers who are the mounted volumes. I ran a full scan on my computer and cannot find any threats. I checked my junction points (which are a bit) and none are mounted drives.

This brings me to suspect that the lack of a boot partition is the problem. I saw in the forums of some suggest it is better to back up all my data in the traditional way (already done, since you ask), install the new drive to hard and then reinstall Windows 7.

So eventually, we get to my question!

Windows 7 is installed on my machine, I think that I don't have the disks to reinstall on a new hard drive. Is this correct? I am able to get a copy?

To be honest, I wouldn't reinstall Windows on a hard disk again, rather than using a return to the top of the spirit and point of restoration. I have a LOT of programs and rubbish that have accumulated in it in the (almost) last 3 years.

Thank you for your patience. If there are some details that might be useful, but I left out (I'm sure there is) please let me know.

    > I think Windows 7 is installed on my machine, that I don't have the disks to reinstall on a new hard drive. Is this correct? I am able to get a copy?

You have not all discs because Toshiba provides clean recovery disc creator software which is always pre-installed on new laptop computers.
This recovery disk tool or support of creator creates the recovery disk that can be used to recover the laptop.

It was a big mistake not to create this disk, however, you have the possibility to order this disc here:

  • Backup and restore - Windows 7

Apology, long story - cannot shorten it, otherwise I'll think I forgot something.

I just rebuilt my PC, reinstalled Win 7 on a SSD and restored everything (or so I thought) all my data on a separate HARD disk.

When I look at the data I find loads of it is missing. I'm afraid I don't know the reason but want someone more competent than me confirm my fears, or better yet, tell me differently!

Before getting the SSD, I got a 1 TB disk partitioned in C: for windows and programs, as well as the d: for data. The data were vast dating back to the years whose number of Paperport files.  There's always a curiosity, perhaps caused by transfer of data between several computers and HARD drives older over the years, I could never "see" all of my My Documents Paperport files, but only by going to desktop (or Windows Explorer) and open D: > users and then my user name. will in this case showed my a whole much fuller of the files and folders to go through My Documents. I don't think it was to do with me do not include them in the library because I believe that I had added things to the library as he was transferred, but I could be wrong.

I think that it is possible that I had managed to create two sets of users, possibly by copying my Windows XP user account and the game 'full' of files (including all my Paperport documents) was not really visible to my 'real' user account in Windows 7.

I always kept backups (including Images of the system) using Windows backup on the external (USB) 1 TB HARD drive. (G)

I created originally the SSD by cloning my C: partition to the new SSD. (I've always built my own PC and Windows 7 on the HARD drive was an OEM installation and I had no right, then disks). It worked well, but I've always had a message on startup asking to choose the "Recovered" version I wanted to start. (It is possible that during cloning, I managed to install windows twice).

I finally decided to put things away to the top (and I had gotten my Win 7 discs at hand). I did a complete (so I thought) backup of my C: and D: drives on a brand new 1 TB HDD internal (e) I had installed as the old USB has been slow (and complete) in case anything went wrong. I had installed a new, pure on the SSD and then (stupidly in retrospect) re-partitioned disk HARD original 1 TB in a single partition D: and "restored" the data from the new E: drive on the re-partitioned D: drive and put all Windows sites to point to the drive D: for My Documents etc. That's when I found that all the stuff that I previously had access via the workstation > users > Stuart was missing. (Why oh why didn't I just use the new E:drive as the data Windows drive and copy the stuff up drive D: when I saw all this and work!)

OK I though all is not lost - I have the original backup to disk USB g: so I restored from there. Same no result - no files Paperport, nothing of what I used to have access via my computer > users > Stuart.

So no data only backup Windows 'official' user account backup and ignore anything else on the D: drive? Was I wrong my backups? Are my data hidden somewhere that maybe a full restore of the system of the E:drive be recovered? I don't think, but I hope.

    Advice, suggestions, commiserations welcome.

  • Backup and restore windows 7 on a lot of laptops

    Hi all

I got 3 new laptops with the same model and I had to install Windows 7 on it.
I installed Windows 7 + drivers and software on the first and I backed up using the backup and restore tool in Windows 7 and I restore on two other laptops.
1 - How can I change the license for the other 2 laptops and provide new licenses for it.
2 is what I myself cause problems especially if the computers are on the network. I think that the 3 laptops now have the same Setup ID and I don't use sysprep to all. Any help or suggestion please?

If all three portable computers are the same exact model, you can use one of the machines and use it as a reference machine, install Windows 7, drivers, apps, set up the way you like, create a system image and restore on the other machines.

When you are restoring, you will need to do the following:

-Change the name of the computer

-Set up the unique product key (so each machine should have its own product key).

Click Start, right click on computer

    Click on properties

Scroll down to the Windows Activation

Click on the link 'change product key '.

Enter the product key, click Next to activate via the Internet.
