error 1721 windows installer a program required for this install to complete could not be run
I have an operating system of Windows Vista Basic 32 bit on my laptop. When I tried to install itunes this error message 1721 arrives. Since I tried to install new hardware on the printer and it would not have worked either. Any suggestions on how to solve this problem. Thank you.
Hello
Thanks for the update and try the initial suggestions. This lets us know that Windows Installer is installed corectly, but we probably a blocked program installation.
Looking for a registry key "Iin Progress:

a. the empty registry key "InProgress".
Check the following registry key:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\InProgress
and clean all the entries that you find.
b. empty/rename "PendingFileRenameOperations" registry key:
Check the following registry key:
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\PendingFileRenameOperations
and clean all the entries that you find.
Here's what I'd like to try then. The Windows Installer Cleanup utility is used to remove any stuborn programs. Perhaps that we have either an installation program failure, who left the installer of Windows in a "current state", to iTunes or another program has been partially installed and needs to have these deleted remnents before we can move forward with a new facility.

I would like to know if one of these help.

Hello!
I tried to install a copy of Symantec Corporate Edition Antivirus software but despite several attempts the software could not be installed in Windows 7 Home Basic Edition version but get error message repeated as "error 1721.There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your provider to support personal or package. "
Could someone help me out here.
Thank youHello CBhaskar,
Thanks for posting on the Microsoft answers Forum.
If the information of Gokul has not helped to solve your problem, then I suggest that you use the Windows Installer Cleanup tool.
There may be a corrupt installation, you need to delete everything first.
Click here for a link to download the utility from Microsoft. You can use the utility to remove installation information for programs that were installed by using Windows Installer. Remember that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility does not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall on.
If please reply back and let us know if this helps solve your problem or if you still need help.
Sincerely, Marilyn

I need help ASAP please! I tried to install the new Itunes software and my Vista laptop just will not let me... any ideas.I have download the new iTunesSetup and click it to start the installation process and the process begins. After 2 minutes, the following message appears:

I already did:
- "To manage my computer' on automatic rather than manual
- Guests of controls too and still no change
This has been going on for about a week or two now, and I really need help.Any ideas or help would be appreciated.Thank youHi once again, fortunately today I bring better news! As a result of a serious lack of assistance from Apple themselves, have no idea of "The Tech Guys" in the world PC and extremely unnecessary hours at Microsoft, I've sorted it me. In other words, the main problem with mine was the Apple Software Updater. Even with "Revo" I was unable to remove it. I decided to download "Windows Installer Clean Up" from there where I could find (it was also free!). I used it and immediately found, I could choose the Apple Software Updater and remove it with very little hassle in all. I proceed to download the new iTunes, and I'm a very happy Bunny! Thanks for nothing, Microsoft and Apple! Hope this helps - Dan

I worked on it for about 3 days now. It's driving me crazy. I tried everything I could find to try to solve this problem.
When installing iTunes it stops and a box will then appear to me said "there is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support provider or package. "No error message or anything, that's all I get. When I hit the only button I can hit the OK button, it continues to install QuickTime. Sometimes, it will install the iTunes file and the shortcut, but the shortcut does never work and the iTunes file is always empty. I have download the installer directly from Apple.com and save to the desktop, a new copy after each test (just in case).
Here is a list of what I've tried:
- Apple Support page: difficulties to install iTunes or QuickTime for Windows
- Apple Support page: removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other components of software for Windows Vista or Windows 7
- Apple Support page: iTunes and QuickTime for Windows cannot be installed without Visual Basic Script (VBScript)

Yes, I am the administrator of the computer with admin abilities, yes I checked run this program as an administrator. I also made sure to stop all this as possible could interfere with the instillation, including my anti virus and what not even before I tried a clean boot.
Is there anything else I can try?
~ Thank you

There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete, could not be executed. This appears when trying to update
Repair Apple Software Update of programs and features, Control Panel, and then try again.
If not for general advice see troubleshooting problems with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps described in the second case are a guide to remove everything related to iTunes and then rebuild what is often a good starting point, unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review other cases and a list of documents to support further down the page, in which case one of them applies.
More information area has direct links with the current and recent if you have problems to download, need to revert to a previous version or try the version iTunes for Windows (64-bit-for old video cards) as a workaround for the problems of performance or compatibility with third-party software.
Your library must be affected by these measures, but it is also related to backup and recovery advice if necessary.

Repair Apple Software Update since the programs & features Panel configuration and then try again.

I use a 2005 Dell Precision 670 with OS Microsoft XP Professional x 64 Edition Version 2003, Service Pack 2.
I tried to update my version of ESRI ArcGIS Desktop v9.3 to v9.2, but in the process of uninstalling v9.2 there error/corruption (although at the time, I don't remember getting the error messages).
Symptoms were: program icon not slot "start > programs" or less "C; "" / Program Files "C:/Program Files (x 86) or ' but the icon still appeared in the list of installed programs in"Add or remove programs ".
Suggestions to be by ESRI:
-Re-registration of the service Windows Installer - Ran fine, but the error still there.
-File system - fine Ran but error checker always run here.
-Downloaded Windows Installer cleanup - NO error found.
-Downloaded CCleaner - NO error found.
-Manually deleted the program, manually remove the following program files: C:\program files\arcgis; C:\Program Files\Fichiers files\esri. C:\Documents and setting\%user name%\application data\ESRI
-Manually remove ESRI records in the registry: I did it by start > run REGEDIT [press ENTER], then navigate hkey_local_mahine/software and sailed to hkey_current_user/software.
-Tried to repair the program from the installation disc, but it always seems to grind to a hault about 50-75% through the configuration of the repair procedure.
-Tried to uninstall the program with the vision more recent ArcGIS Desktop but I still get the ERROR 1721.
I was once in contact with the package vendor (ESRI) UK support team and they sent this problem at their headquarters in the States.
I'm really at a lost as to how this can be fixed, because this program is what I use for my career! Help, please!
This may be a day late and a dollar short, but there is a question we've seen recently with ArcGIS facilities. There is a registry change to ArcGIS that limits the size of the regestry and NOTHING prevents installation once this limit is reached.
Do the following reg key change:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\RegistrySizeLimit
Update the value ffffffff
Restart the computer.
Here is some info on this registry key: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/124594
