  • Error code: 80070426 - (cannot install updates)

I just got an error yesterday, on 9 November, that windows could not download automatic updates so I clicked on the Update icon in my system tray and tried to run the updates manually.  I got the Error 80070426 and with repeated tests there I cannot get updates.  According to the automatic updates, I have not received new updates since October 10.

I also checked my security settings and noticed that my Windows Defender has been exceeded.  If I try to update Windows Defender, I also have an error saying that it cannot be updated with the error code 0x80070426.

I looked at the code Error 80070426 on knowledge base and followed the steps here to try to fix.  Disk cleanup has no effect.  Whenever I try to validate my copy of windows, it says:

This copy of Windows has failed the genuine validation.

An unauthorized change was made to your Windows license or software installed on this computer is not currently compatible with Windows Vista.

I tried to run as administrator command prompt and get an error for this as well.  It is said: The Software Licensing service could not be started.  A system error has occurred.  2 system error has occurred.  The system cannot find the specified file.

This computer was originally shipped with XP, but earlier this year, I installed Vista with a copy bought in the store after I had problems with my operating system and could not run the XP restore disks sent to me by HP or those that I did after that I bought this computer.  When I first installed Vista the computer has a large.  However, after about 2 months, I started to have the blue screen of death, and my computer shuts off and restarts automatically when the blue screen comes up.  I was never able to locate files error on my computer so I do not see what is causing the blue screen and the screen is not upward on my computer... maybe it's here for a second before a restart of my computer.  I don't know what is causing my computer to act like that.  I ran all kinds of virus scans, ad-aware scans, keylogger scans, etc., and nothing ever comes I have a Trojan horse or any kind of virus.  Either something is seriously steeped in this machine that I was unable to find or my system some how became unstable at any given time.

You can give me any help would be greatly appreciated because at this point, except to buy a new computer or do a complete OS reinstall again once I'm all options or ideas.

I use Vista 32 bit and it drives me crazy. I've never had a problem with the Windows updates until recently when I was bombed by mistake D 8007041 and virtually no updates by installing.

Original title: Windows 7 update has failed.

I have 10 updates that must be installed, and it continues to fail. I get the error code 80070246. I tried a .net removal fix suggested in another post, rename c:\windows\softwaredistribution, manually download the updates (which also failed), sfc/scannow have produced no results... I tried the update of windows running as administrator thus (the account I use has administrative privileges). Pre-release candidate seems to work perfectly. Since it expired and I had to buy a copy of Windows 7, I had problems. Why this version would not work as well as pre-release?

OK, so thank you to Alex blood Support technique Microsoft. The solution to my fixing corrupt system files was to run the installation on my Windows DVD install and choose the option 'Upgrade.
