  Dear anyone, I had the same problem. One day, my sound card / audio just stopped. X red on the sound icon. My CD/DVD worked fine but no sound. I uninstalled the sound card, updated drivers... everything I could find... nothing worked. I run only Vista 32 bit with a Realtek AC 97 integrated sound. Looked on the forums and read and I tried for weeks hoping to not have to reformat. Finally, I got in the registry and lucky. Here's what I did: Device Manager: uninstalled all the sound stuff. I kept getting this: Microsoft Kernel DRM Audio Descramber Microsoft Streaming Clock Proxy Microsoft responsible for quality Proxy Microsoft Service Proxy Microsoft Tee/receiver-to-Sink Converter Realteck AC 97 I uninstalled all that sort of thing. Then to regedit and see below Regedit navigate to: HKeyLocalMachine\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class {4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} ON RITE PANE... I deleted: for FILTERS LOW Dword value (Mine was something that read like LVUSB or some such), I restarted and did not leave Windows Installer automatically... don't leave... it will give you everything _ mentioned above. I reinstalled my sound of a pack of Realtek for Vista. Lo and behold... sound is back. Vista still hate the pilot but did before cuz Vista sucks... but it works like any other so... screw it!   What does work is: try to install manually. unloading and reloading PPt and try to update; tried the 'Fix - it' KB suggested for a similar problem (error different message -0 x 80070646); tried to check the registry keys according to http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistawu/thread/18449f60-c149-4eaf-b8e6-a2880cd7232b - the first two hits are as they are supposed to be, but under local_machine etc. There is no AppData, there is a CommonAppData whose value is % ProgramData

  should I change the value of %userprofile%\AppData\Roaming?
  

  or I'm far from base, is there another solution? afraid to touch anything without the advice of expert-thank you

  You upgrade to Office 2010 or did you do a fresh install?

  KB982158 is an update of security for Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007. As you have already installed Office 2010, you don't need this update.
  I suggest you remove all components of Office 2007 from the computer, including add-ins for Office 2007 from the control panel
  and see if that fixes the problem.

  Follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, then Control Panel.
  2. click on programs or features.
  From here you can remove office 2007 and its components.

  Met Win update for final.  45 default updates selected, and none were successful. My error code is 80243004. When I started my laptop this morning the start screen went to an error message which suggested an update to windows.  No background or normal startup windows came.  I do not have access to anything, but the link that sent me to the "update" screen, and so I have internet only access by browser.  I don't have access to anything locally on my pc.   Help, please.

  Hi, Windows Update advises me to install this hotfix. I have Vista and MS Office 2007. Whenever I try to install KB2288613 error code 646. • Vista - Error Code: 80770643 (cannot install the Office updates)

  I tried to set Office Source Engine Manual. Then tried to install, always was error.

  I manually deleted Net Framework 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, and restarted and downloaded 3.5.Then .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 .NET Framework 1.1 and Net Framework 1.1 SP1.restarted. Installed in good condition and checked out restrted then updates downloads and download Net Framework 4. rebooted and tried to download the 4 updates for Office 2003. Yet received Werror!

  I downloaded the .NET Framework cleanup tool. He ran, then rebooted, installed Net Framework 3.5SP1, 1.1 and 1.1 SP1. Resarted and update downloaded for Framework 4. updated and tried to install updates for Office 2003 Same error.

  I get this for the fourth update, installation, 1/2 way through what the error message u [p.

  I tried every thing Word for word, no luck in Help topics.
