Hello
If you use Norton, AVG, Avira, Microsoft Security Essentials, McAfee, etc. the default action is for Windows Defender must be disabled, that these AntiVirus programs have their own Antispyware Applications.
There is nothing to worry.
Using both programs at the same time can cause system conflicts, etc.
If you are using one of the above AntiVirus programs, this Information from David O - Support Engineer shows you how to manually enable Windows Defender (disregard information from uninstalling; not possible in Vista):
"Go to start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. Look for Windows Defender.
Right click and select Properties , ensure that Startup Type is automatic.
Once modified, click apply and OK.
Quit and restart your computer. Check the back take the same path to confirm that Windows Defender has started"
.
If you want to have additional protection against malware using the version FREE of Malwarebytes AntiMalware:
http://www.Malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free
And for now, change startup Vista programs without using Defender, use one of these methods:
"How to use MSCONFIG in Windows Vista"
http://netsquirrel.com/Msconfig/msconfig_vista.html
Or the program Autoruns for FREE:
"V11.21 Autoruns for Windows"

See you soon.

Vista - Error Code: 8000FFFF (cannot install KB929777)
Error code 8000FFFF when I try updating windows via windows update. the update is for vindow vista (KB929777).
I tried microsoft fix it but every Helen I try even once it does not work.
Also I can not upgrade to internet explorer 8 probably for this reason.
Here is an article on this exact error code as it applies to updates that can help with your problem:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946414.
If you have 4 GB of RAM, it is often the cause of this problem, and in this case, a possible solution is to go down to 2 GB of RAM, do the update, and then re-install the other 2 GB of RAM.
If this does not help, please transfer your question in Forum Windows Update:http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistawu/threads where updates experts will be happy to help you. Please post with the information requested here:what to post in the Windows Update forum
I hope this helps.

Once the Fixit has been downloaded and the system is started in the pure State, check that the native vista firewall is now on if a 3rd party firewall has been used previously. now run the Fixit and choose the default mode. restart once it's done and see if the system can be connected to the update servers. If he can't, then rerun the Fixit and choose aggressive mode. turn it back on when he finished the race and updates.

I've just upgraded to PSE 12 and first E 12 and tried to installed several times. Pop up says "Configuration Error"; contact Adobe Tech Support (?); and "mention the error code 1"! Help please!
Installation seems to work fine until, and including 'Technologies share '...
I have cleaned all the disk *.tmp files, deleted all the shortcuts and various Adobe programs and he then successfully installed.
Now, if I can get the updates to work. There is always a challenge with the Adobe software.

Windows 2008 Server Standard not install KB3099860 with error code 8000FFFF
Hello
I look after 3 x Windows 2008 Standard Edition servers. Two of them to date very well and are up to date with updates. One of them however, which is identical in hardware to either of the other two and even fewer programs (we use it as a simple file server), fails on the last update released December 2015:
KB3099860 a security update for the .NET Framework 3.0 Service Pack 2 in Windows Vista Service Pack 2 and Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2: 8 December 2015
I tried a variety of things after having studied the problem these past few days, including:
1 Uninstalling some updates before this one and see if they re - install. They are all re - install fine until I get to it where it fails with 8000FFFF error code so this leads me to believe that this is not in itself a problem with updates
2. manually and also linking this Microsoft 'fixit': http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/windows-update-error-8000ffff
3. how to install the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Server 2008 that installs but does not report errors
4. manually by downloading the fix and trying to install - does not work.
5. all the details here: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/ae6e81e9-5c49-4826-89bc-04a676992706/error-8000ffff-windows-server-2008?forum=winservergen
including rename them the folder C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution Windows Update and giving of right on drive C for "Network Services" - still does not work.
6. as it is associated .NET I tried to repair .NET facilities that exist on the server (2, 3, 3.5 and and re-apply updates, but even once, fails on it.)
So, what should I do now? The behavior may suggest that it is that only this particular associate .NET that is a failure and that future ones will work, but it's "critical" and which relates to the .NET version which is initrinsic to the Windows 2008 operating system I think I should get it fixed :)
Any thoughts?
Thank you
Dan
You need to ask this Technet as they manage the server issues:

hope that helps

Windows 7 update error code 8000FFFF
Howdy, I'm having a problem recently with Windows 7, do not update anything another Defender to windows then. All other updates give 8000FFFF error code. The latest good updates I had were 16/08/2010, then the first failures were 24/08/2010. The only changes to my system since 08/16/2010 are the latest version of Firefox and I installed Starcraft II. I spent hours going through the links of this error, but in almost every moment, the answers given are for windows vista that do not work for windows 7.
I did a restore of the return if the system would let me which unfortunately is 24/08/2010. I also tried to install updates manually by receiving the same error.
Operating system = Windows 7 premium 64-bit,
Anti-anti-virus/firewall = Windows defender (had norton 360 installed, but I was told IT caused with windows defender issues used the norton removal tool to uninstall.)
It's pretty much a skeleton system, I use for games so that other then 3 games and firefox, it is has nothing in what the system did not come with installed.
Any help/ideas are much appreciated.
Thank you
JLC
Anti-anti-virus/firewall = Windows defender (had norton 360 installed, but I was told IT caused with windows defender issues used the norton removal tool to uninstall.)
Who told you that? Properly installed, Norton 360 turns off default Defender. (Defender is an anti-spyware application, not an anti-virus application.)
Since you did not have an antivirus application installed for who knows how long, chances are you see the effects of a hijackware infection. See...
