error code 800706BE for KB948465

In June 2009 I was invited by an automatic update on default update an 'important' Windows Vista Service Pack 2.  It seems that there is an error 800706BE for this update faild.  A few weeks later, there was an automatic update again for this SP2 but failed again.  It is now September and after that this second failure updated, I was not invited automatically to update this.  So I tried to do it manually by following the links in the history of the update.  Somehow, I succumbed this update after several tests in contrast to other updates failed for other programs.  If it is an 'important' update, why am I not being invited automatically update?

This is an important update. I don't know why you are not prompted at all times (but I wasn't either - I had to download and install it myself manually).  You can download it from the Microsoft website at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/dd262148.aspx.  Even if you downloaded it before, download it again to ensure that the original download is not corrupted.

The error can be caused by many things.  First disable any anti-virus program, you may have running.  If this does not work, try to disable the UAC by going to start / Control Panel / user accounts / turn User Account Control on or off / then uncheck the box to turn it on, and then click OK.

If it still doesn't work then we will check your system files:

Go to start / Program Files / accessories / command prompt and right click on command prompt and click Run as administrator.

Type sfc/scannow (note the space - it is important) and to enter and leave running. It will scan some of your system files and try to repair (if you get from these errors, post here).  Once done, repeat the installation.

If none of these work procedures, do not forget to restart your program anti-virus and re - enable UAC because you do not use your PC for long without their protection.

I hope this helps.  After back if he did or didn't (and we will see if we can come up with another option to try).

Good luck!
