I am new to Windows Vista, but relatively competent in older versions. I installed the software on my new desktop computer. I am the only user on this computer and I have administrative rights. I installed the software in the Program Files directory. In the software, there is a folder for the working data file. I now try to 'restore' my data on this new computer file so that I can start working. I get an error message that says "you don't have permission to save in this location. I also created a new folder on the D drive, thinking maybe Vista I just wanted to keep C clean, but it gives me the same message. I can't save to the folder I created. Any advice?

I use Windows 7 Ultimate and I'm trying to back up the database of Northland under the C:\Program Files directory and I get an error message indicating "you don't have permission to save in this location.  Contact the administrator for approval. "I can't even save a text file to this place, so it has nothing to do with Windows Explorer. I haven't used Windows 7 much since installation and don't know if I would have been able to save in this location in the past, but I recently created a working group with my laptop (a little background information).

I searched through other posts for hours and nothing has worked for me.

It makes no sense at all.  Any help would be appreciated,

It is well known problem UAC (User Account Control) in Windows 7 that prevents you from storing data in system folders. You have these options:

    • Change the database so that it stores its files in a different folder.
    • Get a 7-compatible Windows version of the program.
    • Turn off UAC (not recommended)
  • You don't have permission to save in this location.

You want to save in the My Documents folder instead.

  • Forbidden - you don't have permission to access on this server

Recently, I cloned git a customer Web site and I need to work on that, but when I try to open it via mamp or ampps a message appears:

Forbidden you don't have permission to access the 'websitename"/application/index.html on this server.

I did extensive research and everyone says to change the permissions on httpd.conf , but nothing happened. I tried to reinstall and nothing more. If I navigate through the terminal in the folder of the Web site, I have all the permissions.

    Does anyone have a solution?

It is difficult to understand your configuration, but you try to run the web site locally? If so, the url is localhost/websitename/application/index.html or whatever the path to the root of your document...

  • Error message when you try to attach the document to an e-mail message: you don't have permission to open this file. Contact the owner of the file... for permission

I can't attach documents to hotmail or my e-mail from work using Firefox. I have not tried another such search engine as suggested in other posts with similar but different questions. Yesterday a pop-up asked me permission for Firefox to access my documents and clicked on 'no '. I had never seen this pop-up request before if I didn't take the risk that it be a virus. A month ago I was able to attach documents to my email.

Using Windows Explorer, I moved my documents from the folder 'libraries' to 'myfolder' under computer. Not sure if they had moved or if it was just a temporary solution of fluke, but I could send my documents successfully. There was malware that has been found through one of the links provided by an answering machine, but even if the malware has been removed, the issue has not been resolved.

Thanks to the two people who responded.

  • Sometimes when I try to connect, I get a forbidden, you don't have permission to access on this server login

Sometimes, not all the time, I get a message that says:
    Forbidden
you are not allowed to access on this server connection information

It happens all the time, but it happened today about 5 times. I finally had to use Safari to get online and return to Firefox.

I never know when I stopped if it's going to happen when I reboot and try to connect again. This morning was especially painful, since it used to happen once and then I exit and restart Firefox and it worked. Today, it has not worked. What can I do to fix this? Thank you

    • Press 'Ctrl + F5' or 'Ctrl + Shift + R' (Windows, Linux)
    • Press 'Command + shift + R' (Mac)

Clear the cache and cookies only from Web sites that are causing problems.

    "Clear the Cache":

    • Firefox > Preferences > advanced > network > content caching Web: 'clear now '.

    • Firefox > Preferences > privacy > "Use the custom settings for history" > Cookies: "show the Cookies".
