Error messgae: "the screen saver cannot run because it requires a more recent video card", attempting to display the screen saver and the error code 40 download the fix.
Original title: cannot run zip; error code 40 (hotfix for the video card)
Hi, I ' m trying to view my screen saver and it seems to be causing "the screen saver can't run because it requires a newer video card or compatible with 3d graphics." (2030 M-windows7 dell) .thanks Jean-Michel
Hi John,.
1. what screen saver are you trying to view?
2 is confined to a specific screen saver?
3. have you installed SP1 for Windows 7?
This problem occurs because of a problem in 3D screensavers.
Fix error occurs if you have a corrupt hotfix package or may have downloaded the wrong patch for your platform.
This can also occur if the hotfix is included in SP1 and you have already installed Windows 7 SP1.
Method 1:
You must make sure that the hotfix you download is depending on the version of Windows 7 installed on your computer.
For more information, see the article:
Please see if you can copy the file that you downloaded to another computer or location and try to unpack.
When you download the fix, save it in a new location (on the desktop) and the password given with the fix allows to extract the file.
Method 2:
Step 1:
You can also try to run the display quality Troubleshooter and check if it helps.
Step 2:
You too, try to install the latest version of the Site Web of Dell display drivers and check if it helps.
Hope the helps of information. Let us know if you need help with Windows related issues. We will be happy to help you.

Screen saver can't run because it requires a more recent or Direct3D-compatible video card
Exactly, I found the path, right click on the screen resolution of office, open, open the advanced parameters, click on help tab and change the settings.
But, change settings is grey (cannot be opened).
Anyone know how to activate it?Hello Kevin,
Thanks for keeping updated on the question and the quick response.
Have you tried to update the graphics driver?
By default, Direct3D will be enabled in Windows 7. There is no option in Windows 7 for manually enable or disable Direct3D.
If the problem persists, you can also try to turn on graphics acceleration and check if it helps.
To turn on graphics acceleration
- Open display settings by clicking the Start button, click Control Panel
- Click appearance and personalization , and then click customization
- Now, click display settings.
- Click on display settings, and then click Advanced settings.
- Click the Troubleshooting tab, and then click change settings.
- If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
- Move the Hardware Acceleration complete.
Additional information:
You can also review the steps in the following Microsoft article and check if this may help.

Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process
My computer was working fine until last night. Now when I connect I get a blue screen saying that the computer shuts down to prevent further damage from happening. I tried to restore to an earlier point in time when my computer was working but then I get the error:
The OS disk (C :) has errors.
Windows has detected corruption on OS (C :) file system. You should check the drive for errors before you can restore it.So I'm going to run the chkdsk utility, and I get the error:
Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. You want to schedule this volume to check the next time the system restarts.I'm confused because the chkdsk unility usually works, and I have no idea why she is being used by another process. I am clearly not very good with computers. I tend to do a lot of spywear and adwear on my computer. I have Spyware Doctor that removes any infection.
Help, please. I've tried everything. Thank you.
Asha22,
It appears from your last post why chkdsk did not run on reboot and you gave an incorrect message is that you did not a space between the volume and the f number. The correct syntax is:CHKDSK c: /f
You can also run the utility disc in this way:
http://windowshelp.Microsoft.com/Windows/en-us/help/bc1393cf-9f9c-79C7-0f91-9337c2c41f811033.mspx1. open the computer by clicking the Start button, click computer.
2. right click on the hard drive you want to check, and then click Properties.
3. click on the Tools tab and then, under check for errors, click check now. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. To automatically repair problems with files and folders that the scan detects, select automatically fix file system errors. Otherwise, the disk check will simply report a problem, but not to fix them.
To perform a full disk check, select search and attempt to recover bad sectors. This scan is trying to find and repair physical errors on the hard drive itself, and it may take much longer to complete.
To check for errors file and the physical errors, select both automatically fix errors in file system and search for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.
4. click on start.
Depending on the size of your hard disk, this may take several minutes. For best results, do not use your computer for any other tasks while it checks errors.Note: If you select automatically errors in file system of fix for a disc that is used (for example, the partition that contains Windows), you will need to reschedule the disk check for the next time you restart your computer.
The reason that it says that the disk is in use by another process is because it is in use by the operating system (Vista), and that's why it must be run at startup, before the operating system loads fully.
Another utility, you need to perform is the System File Checker, if you can get your computer to start, either normally or in Mode without failure.
To run the System File Checker tool, follow these steps:
Click Start and type cmd in the box start the search.
Right click on cmd in the list programs, and then click Run as administrator.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click on continue
At the command prompt, type the following line and press ENTER:
sfc/scannow
When the analysis is complete, test to see if the problem you are experiencing is resolved.Let us know what these tests are and how we can also provide assistance.

Cannot run chkdsk - Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process.
original title: can I run chkdsk on win xp home, but when I try to use switches, I get cannot lock the current drive. Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. HELP PLEASE
I run chkdsk without switches on win xp home. I told myself I file error and to set running chkdsk with /f. but when I try, I get the cannot lock the drive, chkdsk may not run because ect... I tried in safe mode, same thing. I sfc/scannow, but it has not fixed the problem files. help please
It's normal. You can not run a check disk on your system disk because your system is to use. The Message you get should ask you if you want to run it at the next reboot. You must answer 'Yes' to this message, and then restart your computer. A disk check should take place as it is restarted.
FYI: A check disk can take hours if you have a large drive or there are a lot of problems on the disc and you cannot use your machine while the scan is in progress. Better to operate during the night. Also, I got checkdsk completely erase the hard disk to the point where the only option was to reformat and reinstall Windows. Make sure that your data available are well-supported before running Chkdsk.

4. now, CHKDSK runs and corrects problems of disc he

Please help with 9.3 update. I get the message that the update cannot check because we are is more connected to the Internet. Restart does not help.
Apple released the update iOS 9.3 for older devices (air of iPad and previous iPhone, 5 s and previous) due to problems with Activation. See the following for details and possible solutions.

A new version for the iPad 2 is now available which does not require the activation step. A new version for other devices is not yet available. You will have to wait for that Apple releases a new version for Air. If your works well at the moment you are one of the lucky ones.

I'm trying to install windows 7 64 on a 32-bit with the custom installation option. All is well until that right at the end of the installation it gives me this error "Windows Setup cannot continue because a required driver could not be installed. I tried this several times but the same results. I used the windows Upgrade Advisor to see if my computer is compatible and it is no problem.

Restore the previous installation of Windows and do the following:
1 disable any security software before you attempt to upgrade or do a clean install.
2. make sure that your computer is updated (devices and applications)
3. disconnect all external devices before installing.
4. check your hard disk for errors:
Click Start
Type: CMD, according to the results, right-click CMD
Click on "Run as Administrator"
At the command prompt, type: chkdsk /r
When you restart your system, your computer will be scanned for errors and will try to correct them.In addition, run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, it will scan your system and provide a report telling you if your PC can run Windows 7, and if there is no compatibility problems with your hardware or programs.

You can improve your current PC to Windows 10 by going to the Windows 10 software download page to download the media creation tool. The media authoring tool can be used to create a USB or DVD media to upgrade your current PC to Windows 10 or install Windows 10 on another PC.
Follow the instructions on the download page of Windows 10 software: http://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows10
