Continues to appear when I try to open any type of video or audio file now, I want to uninstall and reinstall the wmp player, but I need to know is there a way to fix this to play as it was before, I went on the net tryin to google it and search for it but im leaves loop holes saying changing the programs by default and other things but nothing worked , I need to find the right way to get this working... help me...

Hi DragLee,

Windows Media Player is the default or integrated drive in Windows Vista. It can't be uninstalled or reinstalled. However, if a system file is missing or damaged, we can run sfc (System File Checker) scan to find and fix system files corrupted.

Try these steps and check the result.
Step 1: Scan of the sfc
1. open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click programs, accessories principally made, right-click Guest, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on allow.
2. type the following command and press ENTER: sfc/scannow
3 restart the computer once the analysis is complete.
4. check if the problem persists.

For more information, see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833

Step 2: If the problem persists, perform the system restore to a date where the media player was working fine
1. Click Start, type system restore in the search box, and then click System Restore in the list programs.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click on continue.
2. in the System Restore dialog box, click on choose a different restore point and then click Next.
3. in the list of restore points, click a restore point created before you started having the problem, and then click Next.
4. click on finish.

I hope this helps.

  • Error when you try to open Device Manager in Windows 7 Professional.

When I try to open Device Manager or the computer management window, I get an error message similar to the following:

MMC cannot open the file C:\WINDOWS\system32\devmgmt.msc.

It is perhaps because the file does not exist, is not the MMC, or was created by a later version of MMC. Perhaps it is also because you don't have sufficient access to the file.

File c:/windows/system32/devmgmt.msc has the tool box is red (which I think its usually grey (normal))

    Hi GodzillaSurfer,

Try these steps and check if it solves the problem:

    1. Click Start , type cmd, right click and select run as administrator.

    2. at the command prompt, type regsvr32 msxml3.dll , and then press ENTER.

In addition, if the step above does not resolve the problem, you can run a scan of auditor of file system (CFS) on your computer. SFC tool scans system files and replaces incorrect versions of system files by using the correct versions.

  • Get the "Access denied" error when you try to play all video files in another folder on my external hard drive.

A couple of days, I've had accidentally one of the folders slipped on my hard drive in the folder above him and was presented with the "Access denied" error messages when I tried the two a) reglisser it out & b) open it from the record she had been driven to (which was not a folder of my making that is a jibberish titled folder containing two .vdm files it contains first)

After receiving advice of a friend, I did a restore from safe mode on the eve of the day when he moved and he did bring him back with all the files and files in the right place, but now I'm getting an access denied for each file, I try to play. Whether Real Player, Windows Media Player etc none will play.

Just to test, I slipped a .avi file in the folder to see if he was going to play and he did it can be the folder settings, I'm just hoping that all these files are now not corrupted and unplayable as I have some 180 GB of data in this folder in more than 1000 files.

    Any help is very appreciated.
