Errors in Vista .wps file extension

I have some old files I still sometimes use that have the file extension *.wps.

I had an XP PC that would open up the files formatted in MS Works.  I just bought a new laptop Vista and when I try to open the same files, it says either they are in use or corrupt.  If I have the CD go back to my old XP PC, files opened well upward.

Does anyone have a solution for this, I need the files in the format that they were saved, open in Wordpad in Vista create a havoc-PLEASE HELP!

Hello Fahey, welcome.

If you are running Microsoft Office 2003 Vista, this addon provided by Microsoft will allow you to open WPS files created in Works v6-9. If you run Office 2007, this addon may not work, but its worth by train.

http://www.Microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=BF41401E-70FA-465D-AE2E-CF44DBF05297&displaylang=en

Download and install. Furthermore, if this does not work, you can try this:

1. create a backup of the file WPS (basically copy and paste it in another folder)
2. go to: http://www.zamzar.com/
3. follow the instructions to convert the file online

Let us know if it works,

Thank you!

    Hello

    1. what version of Windows are you using (Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7)?

    2. don't you make changes to your computer before the show?

    Method 1:

Please check if you face the same problem when recording in safe mode or not.

If it starts successfully can be a third-party application or service is causing the problem, then you can perform a clean boot to remove software conflicts

    Step 1:

Start your computer in safe mode with networking

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/advanced-startup-options-including-safe-mode

    Step 2:

A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts. The article below describes how to solve problems in Windows 7 by performing a clean boot. This article also describes how to start the Windows Installer service and how to reset the computer so that it starts as usual. To configure your computer to clean boot see the following link.

    Hi Oniebeme,

    • Exactly when you receive the above errors?

    Step 1

You can run the checker system files (SFC Scan) on your computer and check if it helps you to fix the aid and support question. System File Checker analyzes all immediately protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with appropriate Microsoft versions. This command may require access to the Windows installation source files. Follow the steps below to scan SFC on your computer.

    one.

Click Start and run, type sfc/scannow, and then click OK.

    b.

Once the scan is complete, restart the computer.
Note You will need the Microsoft Windows installation CD if the scanning utility cannot find the necessary system files.

Access the link below to learn more about Scan SFC.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/310747

    Step 2

If scan running SFC does not help, you can create a new user account and check if it works fine without error on the user account. If the new user profile on the computer works fine, copy data from the user of the old account to the new.

You can access the link below and follow the steps in the article to create a new user account and copy the data to the new account.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/811151

    Step 3

This behavior can also occur if the computer is infected with the Virus. I would recommend torun a virus online scan.

Access the link below and check if your computer is infected with the virus and delete the same.

    http://safety.live.com

If the steps above do not help, you may need to contact the Champagne and Dell technical support if you can get a Windows XP installation disc.

    Link to connect Dell support:http://support.dell.com/support/index.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs

  • Try to download an update of the firmware with a file extension ROM Vista says it's an unrecognized file type

Title: download original ROM files on Vista

Try to download an update of the firmware with a file extension ROM Vista says it's an unrecognized file type. Patches?

You must get the update of the firmware that can handle the type of file the same place ROMA, you got the firmware file.  From what I see, they seem specific to the product updated. http://www.FileInfo.com/extension/ROM if they don't have it, talk to their technical support staff and ask them what type of program is required to install the firmware provided in ROM format and where you can get it.  Vista doesn't have the ability to read a file ROM type  Some software must be added to give this capability.

Here is an article I read: "various hardware upgrades and emulators use the ROM file extension." A user needs a flash program usually available on the website of the manufacturer of the motherboard. The user must not flashing BIOS unless the user knows that he has the image of his mother. An error or the computer may be turned off when the wrong BIOS image is flashed. "So be very careful here, or you can completely disable your system.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

Vista and Windows 7 updated drivers love then here's how update the most important.

This is my generic how updates of appropriate driver:

This utility, it is easy see which versions are loaded:

-Free - DriverView utility displays the list of all device drivers currently loaded on your system.
For each driver in the list, additional useful information is displayed: load address of the driver,
Description, version, product name, company that created the driver and more.
    http://www.NirSoft.NET/utils/DriverView.html

For drivers, visit manufacturer of emergency system and of the manufacturer of the device that are the most common.
Control Panel - device - Graphics Manager - note the brand and complete model
your video card - double - tab of the driver - write version information. Now, click on update
Driver (this can do nothing as MS is far behind the certification of drivers) - then right-click.
Uninstall - REBOOT it will refresh the driver stack.

Repeat this for network - card (NIC), Wifi network, sound, mouse, and keyboard if 3rd party
with their own software and drivers and all other main drivers that you have.

Now in the system manufacturer (Dell, HP, Toshiba as examples) site (in a restaurant), peripheral
Site of the manufacturer (Realtek, Intel, Nvidia, ATI, for example) and get their latest versions. (Look for
BIOS, Chipset and software updates on the site of the manufacturer of the system here.)

Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - right click - RUN AD ADMIN - REBOOT after
    each installation.

Always check in the Device Manager - drivers tab to be sure the version you actually install
presents itself. This is because some restore drivers before the most recent is installed (sound card drivers
in particular that) so to install a driver - reboot - check that it is installed and repeat as
    necessary.

Repeat to the manufacturers - BTW in the DO NOT RUN THEIR SCANNER device - check
    manually by model.

Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.

older and cause problems. If updates offers a new driver and then HIDE it (right click on it), then
get new manually if you wish.

  • Selection of Vista Explorer by default file extension: this can be changed?

By default, in the Vista Explorer, when you select a file name, the file extension is excluded. This behavior can be changed?

    Thank you.

    François

To see file extensions, go to start / Control Panel / folder options / view and presented the box Hide extensions of known file types.  This way you will always be able to see the file extensions.  I have no idea why that is enabled by default because it is very useful and I would even say that it is important.

If you have disabled (or if it's on, incidentally) and you rename a file without the extension, it will lose the file extension and won't open because he doesn't know what kind of file it is.  It's yet another reason for the extensions of files to all files are displayed permanently.  You do not want the name of the excluded file because this would mean that you could not change the types of files because the extension is "locked".  As long as you can see and change, there should be no problem.

When you select a file name in the file extension Explorer is excluded only if it is hidden.  Otherwise you can see.  In any case it's there even if you don't see it (unless you have changed the name and does not include the extension in the new name).

    I hope this helps.
