  The BIOS of Satellite A660 supports booting from eSATA.
  The following devices are supported:
  -USB FDD,
  -Primary HDD/SSD,
  -Optical devices,
  -Network (LAN),
  -supported with eSATA

  I guess you will need to connect the boot device to the eSATA port before turning on the laptop and start the boot process.

  I got an ideapad y560 0646 with i7 and radeon 5730 without switchable graphics. After startup, the windows logo appears and then only a black screen. no windows logon. It is possible to start with the standard vga drivers. im running windows 7 prof 64 bit. I remember that I installed windows 7 32 bit in November 2011 teacher and after installing graphics drivers from the homepage of lenovo, I faced the same problem. so I just kept using windows 7 64 bit. I think that there is a windows update that has caused the problems for windows 7 64 bit. I installed the latest drivers, but it did not work. I think that it is not hardware issue because ubuntu works well. I would try the old drivers that came with the y560 on cd. Unfortunately, I can't find the cd.

  no need to do so. the black screen issue is resolved. and the blue screen issue 0101 when you connect the ac charger cable, too. I had to adjust the power settings in windows. mininmal performance is set to 100 per cent for execution with the cable. If you set it to 5% as a battery-operated, is not breaking. Maybe this could be one solution to others to have the black screen after the windows logo.

  Here's what to do:

  start in safe mode and adjust your power settings to run with the AC adapter / CC. define the minimum performance of 5%

  Just installed Windows XP on my OCZ SSD that was installed in my desktop pc. I used it on my pc Windows 7 to start XP just to play a few games that will not work under Windows 7. I removed the SSD drive and now use it on my laptop Y560. The drive works fine and I can read and write to it without any problems. Then, I tried to boot from it again so I added the eSATA port in the startup configuration in the Bios Y560. When using the F12 key to select the drive it flashes to the Windows XP splash screen and then display a windows stop error message and restarts and then go back to my Windows 7.

  I'm looking for answers for a week now, but nothing I've tried has helped at all! I know that maybe someone had this problem and any help would be great.

  Windows xp runs on sata Ide mode. You will have to change the sata mode in the bios to ahci Ide to start for win xp and need to change back to Ahci to startup in Windows 7. I put t know why you want to start from eSATA, but if you want to boot from your external HARD drive you can connect via the USB port for example. It should work.

  I think that it of not possible to start from eSATA. The BIOS should provide this type of functionality.

  Assuming the M4700 can boot from an external eSATA port, this should be possible. And it should be possible to install on a HARD drive, then put this drive in an external enclosure and start it. Your preferences and your drive letters must be maintained. You can check that your system can boot from a first external HARD disk.

  The Dell license covers only the version of the operating system that is provided with the system. In theory, the dualboot requires two licenses.

  You can install Windows 7 on external hard drive ESATA. Plugin from the player to your computer, go to the BIOS and make sure the ESATA drive is set as the default device to start. And during the installation of Windows 7 to install the necessary drivers and you must have your Windows 7 installed on drive ESATA.

  I have an external drive which I'm currently starting as a USB device.  The outside also has an eSATA port that I want to be able to boot from. However, when I go into the bios boot area to choose the boot order, there is no option to start using eSATA, USB only.  The Port of the computer's eSATA/USB port.

  From what I can find, HP didn't include the option to boot from the port eSATA on this computer.

  Many others have asked about this on the HP forum.

  Just ordered a laptop LG CT21N Bluray drive from newegg. Someone already had problems adding this drive or a spare optical drive specifically for this laptop?

  Reader is installed and works perfectly, ripping a bluray movie as I type this. All lined up, just unsnapped the bezel from lenovo off the coast of the old drive and put it on the new drive. stock screw for the rear mounting has also worked. looks totally stock, eject button works perfectly. Total time was less than 10 minutes.

Last year, I bought a 120 GB ssd card Accelsior PCIe mercury OWC - not being aware of the s and outs of things, but I knew it wasn't a port multiplier with two external esata ports. so my question is this: since I have to live with this card can I connect the esata ports to discs in separate outdoor pens and then through disk utility make a raid 0 set, and what size of disc must be effective for the cost the least?  I intend to get a USB 3.0 also so that I can use this speed also.  My other plans must be a drive of fusion with the ssd 120 on the map of Accelsior with a disk of 1td existing in my drive for the system Bay and replace all small readers of seagate more big HARD drive and I'm wondering if the 2 TB is the largest capacity I can use internally. I am on a very limited budget so that's the reason why I'm thinking hdd and if there is someone with advice on a card USB 3 I would appreciate your comments - in fact, I would be happy to comment on everything I mentioned, I'm a little out of the loop on the evolution in recent years. It is possible to configure a raid with two disks of two PPI crd esata ports would there be an advantage with drives of 2 TB or 1 TB disks would work as well for raid 0.   Time machine is a USB 2 connection. No real reason for a USB 3 connection.

  There is no RAID in disk utility in El Capitan. Apple dropped the disc utility in El Capitan. However, you can still the Terminal commands to configure RAID.
