ESXi 4.1 boot more...

I've had a host ESXi 4.1 upward and running for many many years now. (Well, it started as a host ESXi 3.5 and has been upgraded to 4.1)

Nothing, I repeat, nothing has been changed/updated / changed on the ESXi host since it has been properly updated to ESXi 4.1 several months ago.

I turn on the server, usually run it for a few days and then close it. The host runs several virtual machines of Windows in a lab AD environment.

Yesterday, this all-of-the-sudden server does more boot on the hypervisor.

The system itself of messages successfully, the Adaptec 5805 controller load successfully, no problems with logical drives.

The problem is that once the screen "Loading of VMWare hypervisor" starts, the progress bar at the bottom stops near the end and everything goes ever further. At this point, the system is inadmissible, the keyboard presses don't sign up, etc..

If I hit ESC during this loading screen (before it freezes), I see a lot of modules to load. The last item posted before it freezes is:

Start-up: MBI = 0x000100f0, entry = 0 x 00400256

The forums and internet search only turned up people with problems trying to install ESXi on the failure to load x 86-64 processors capable or not. This is obviously not the case in my situation, that this host worked correctly ESXi for many years.

-Perhaps some system files has been corrupted some how?

Is it possible to reload ESXi the host OS without wiping one of VMFS partitions? Something like a "refresh" BONE or a re - load sur-dessus? I need to keep all data VMFS storage...

Any other suggestions I can try to revive this host so it starts?

You can perform a repair installation. He must repair the ESXi installation and let the VMFS partition. I never want to do a repair install without having my backed up virtual machines.

Assuming that you have updates on the way, you can try to start the previous update. Restart the ESXi host and when the ESXi initial startup screen appears press SHIFT + R it will ask you for confirmation.

You can install ESXi on a USB key. You will need to follow the following to get started. http://KB.VMware.com/kb/1035107

  • ESXi hosted VM requires more video RAM

Hi, I have a Geforce 9500 GT on my ESXi 4.1 server. Some of the windows on the ESXi server machines require more video RAM, then the map server provides (24 MB I think) so I found a 9500 GT I had spare and added. I haven't set anything to the video card and ESXi is not sound using my server maps vga. Can I configure ESXi for my windows to use my Geforce 9500 GT, and you have a link or instructions somewhere?

ESX (i) does not support hardware acceleration.  You can get it with VMware Fusion / workstation. http://KB.VMware.com/kb/1011942

  • General call for help (w/ESXi 5 Ent vServer more)

    Hello

I hate to feel that helpless and have to put up a post like this one. I have been using Xen (no XenServer Xen just) for a number of years and have been asked to evaluate ESXi 5 as a possible solution, because a client can go this route in order to obtain LEED certification (zero positions clients, virtualisation, virtualization, cloud, public and private, etc.)

It is in the Financial Services space, and we are currently using Xen XCP on individual servers so that a small group/team share the same server (s). We have done no HA, failover, clustering, etc., but we must move in this direction.

I have a trial license, but also a company full more license (signed for the eval after that I got the Ent +). I know it is not sensible, but we a sub-affiliate of a very big client VMware Enterprise, then we were given a license key to use for our assessment (6 months).

All I want to do is build a simple HA cluster through a multiple node machine - and then have it failover to a second machine (the two are exactly the same). As much as I know at this point is that I need vcenter Server to manage clusters & several hosts, but we do not have a domain, don't use AD (nor we want to) and we use hardly any Windows operating system. To complicate still, two groups will have to be in a sandbox environment, while the other two groups not - but none of the machines will never hit the internet. (which means that you VPN into a machine and remote desktop then in your virtual machine from the inside the VPN)

So we do not AD, we do not have a domain, most of our BONES ' are are Ubuntu Server (Linux CLI)

Is there video tutorials in line/youtube? Is it possible to Setup? I MSDN so I can easily fool around with AD + DNS if I need to, but don't currently use us and want to avoid at all costs.

I'm not most AD/DNS/Server 2008 smart person out there, but I could not yet find installation tutorials easier to try the 'standard' method to install it gave.

My demonstration/test environment consists of 4 Dell T5500 positions, each with 72 GB of RAM, 2 identical x 6-core CPU (with HT) and an array of 3-drive RAID5 HARD on a LSI HW raid card. each machine has 2 x dual port 10 G NIC and a single 1 gig NIC quad (that we will use in production). I would build two HA clusters, two machines for each and I would like to have a failover cluster on the other.

The machines are physiclly located in my office (not rack-mounted, etc.).

If someone could point me in the right direction it would be most appreciated.

    THX!

Can I use a domain name (false) for the installation process, but then NOT use AD for my virtual machines? (I assume that you can simply because a Linux OS would not be in the announcement)

    Yes, it's fine.

  • Sync ESXi 4.1 boot images

ESXi 4 boot images was unnecessary.

Often, if I have a hardware problem / GROUP, or a blockage on boot then ESXi will revert to the backup image.  This has a significant impact when executing the 1000v as the second image will not have installed MEC or it will have an older VEM.

Does anyone know how to synchronize the images of starting in good condition?

    Hi polysulfide,.

ESXi is supposed to save its configuration automatically every hour. You may want to use the script backup.sh - auto . Take a look at the following article.

    Good luck.

  • Equim L350D - 11 d boot more

I had uninstalled Mcafee Internet security 2 weeks ago to install Trend Micro (it was free of my ISP) and have had problems since. It started with a software conflict so I uninstalled the software and the laptop has continued to function properly, but then I noticed the laptop started running slowly, so I did a cleaning disc, the old deleted messages. Then a flashed blue screen error message to the top while Firefox, with management of title and the laptop running a dump of memory and rebooted. It seems to work normally, so I ran another disk clean up and uninstalled unused programs, such as a game and LG Pc suite and real player Tempro. I then tried to access Firefox and an error message came say firefox is no longer there, or may have been moved. I then go to internet Explorer and within 20 minutes the laptop computer crash, blue screen error indicating that there was a clerical error and that I should stop the system cache or make shadow copies, it preceded then to make an another memory dump and reboot showed a black screen empty.

I had to reboot via the power button and last known good configuation lets get back to windows from this point, everything I've tried has ended in the system crashing showed a blue screen and reboot to a black screen. I stopped the cach/maintaining shadow copies of the system and checked the Device Manager to find errors. I found a yellow error marked upward on the software of the BIOS and it says that it is working properly and * error code 39 *. I tried to run the BIOS update software and it says I have the latest version installed 1.70.

I have run diagnostic software and made a check of memory, but all she says that it's a hardware problem. I tried several times to first do a system recovery via the hard disk which hung before loading the software and then rebooted to a black screen, the second and third time through the recovery disc, who even once hanged and then restarted. I used the menu F8 to access the windows and try to run software diagnosis, uninstall unnecessary software or a virus scan but whenever I tried to do something would break, on some occasions, access to the internet through internet Explorer seem to trigger an accident.

In the last days when I boot the system, rows of green dots appear, at first, that this occurred after the screen Toshiba had loaded and before windows attempted to load and the system would then simply stroll and not load windows. Then the rows of green dots appeared on top of the toshiba screen at startup, and now, the screen does not at all at the start, all that happens is the fan going, the optical drive is running and the caseing feels cold lights on his power, battery and drive glow green as normal but nothing happens , the fan seems to run and the responses of optical drive but nothing else.

Now I'm lost as to think what could be wrong as I can no longer access windows or the BIOS configuration, it is the BIOS software? Or memory? Or a Virus on the hard drive?
If anyone has any ideas, I would be happy

It is not easy to tell what the problem may be, but somehow your system plays up.
Problem is that you can't do much. You can remove the RAM or HARD disk modules and try to start the laptop and try to enter the BIOS settings. If this doesn t work, you can bring your laptop to the service and ask for help.
BIOS is, first of all, this first level of overall system and if you have problems with it, I believe that there must be a serious problem.

Sorry, but I think that there is not much you can do about it.

  • Windows 7 to stream: stream K4F53UA 7 boot more

A friend gave me this tablet, because he wasn't using it.  I have it wiped and created a recovery drive and ensured that I could go to the recovery.  I have upgraded to Windows 10 and he has finally found the Atom chipset drivers for accelerated video.  I disabled the Secure Boot to test an installation of Ubuntu, but I couldn't get beyond the message of blue and white ncurses-esque indicating that he was not able to load.  I held and set aside.

A week later I'm trying to boot into Windows, and he turns the doughnut and then turns off.  She performs an iteration between auto repair and the normal startup. Diagnostics tests all pass.  Reports are fully charged battery.

I tried to start my recovery disc and it stops with your PC ran a mistake and needs to restart.  The next time he tells the PC needs to be repaired.  This is starting to sound like the recovery disk created from the HP Windows 8.1 installation not really create a usabe recovery drive.

I repeated the process and this time the recovery USB reset and play in the doughnut until running dry battery.

I tried to reflash the firmware twice, reset to default values, compensation keys, load HP keys and allowing the secure boot but no combination seems to be good.

Thanks for the reply!  I forgot to mention that I tried the reflash procedure twice, just to be on the safe side.

Power + up + down everything that held down = Reflash firmware (not sure where he stores a backup copy)

Food + low = interruption boot sequence and prompt for the essential operations of the function

Power + top doesn't = no apparent action

Alimentation power supply for two seconds, then hold immediately high + low while leaving the power = mode DnX

After which allows him to sit with the battery and then plug again, and allowing it to charge seems to have solved the abnormal state.

Warned about what splash screen to load until it reaches 5%.  He let sit for an hour, then Windows started successfully.

I didn't know that the CMOS reset report as follow another, but at least it is no longer fails at startup.  I will also add that, even if Windows could not start, I managed to get Ubuntu has started, but it would never reach X 11 initialization before locking up or turn off like Windows.

I actually turned printer off and allowed the boot to continue. Why this software adds the C5580 as boot device?

  • ESXi-5 - invalid boot drive

    Hello

I was able to install the last ESXi5 on a system. The installation went well spent, found the drive, created the partitions and so on. At the end of the installation it says to remove the cd and reboot, which went well.

Upon restart, it always says invalid boot drive and there is only a DVD - RW (no media) and a 320gig Sata WD player. It's on a newer socket 775 Intel Board (old style socket, the MB was created less than a year, to Intel).

Any ideas? The player BIOS setting has been updated with the legacy as Enchanced nor choce seems to make a difference.

Are you sure that the build of the hardware is completely compatible with the HCL?

  • ESXi 5.0 boot partition size

What is the size of storage recommended for installing ESXi 5.0?

I recommend you do at least 6 GB (I usually use 10GB). Depends on how the systems of storage performer GBs (1 GB = 1,000 * 1,000 KB or 1,024 * 1,024 kb) 5 GB may not be enough.

Start the computer in safe mode and log on to the built-in account named administrator .  You will need to know the password, if any, for this account.  Once, you can create a new user account.

Then, restart the computer and log into the new user account.

  • ESXi 5 for host with more than 32 GB of RAM

    Hello, Dear Sirs!

I'm tempted vmware ESXi 5 on our small server and it works fine (server has 16 GB of RAM). Thank you!

Now, we decided to perform a small upgrade and increase RAM, say, up to about 90 GB.

I hear a guy (and also various discussions here and there, applied to different versions of ESXi and ESX) this license free (but still required registration) of ESXi allow only up to 32 GB of RAM. Is this true for the 5th version of ESXi. In other places (like http://blogs.vmware.com/vsphere/2009/06/esxi-vs-esx-a-comparison-of-features.html), this information do not confirmed.

If this is the case, we would like to purchase a license. But here, I stuck too: what type of license do we choose?

I am confused with vSphere, vCenter, and many other things, never tried they...

It seems like we don't have that one server, so I guess we are a staff of vSphere, do we?

BTW, there are several processors (as I know) and each of them has several nuclei. Do take effect on the process of choice?

    Thank you very much!

    Sergei Petrunin

    Welcome to the community,

For the current licenses, see http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/vsphere_pricing.pdf

Free hypervisor is indeed limited to 32 GB of physical memory, while all the other editions (paying) are licensed per processor/socket, without any limitation on the hearts by taking power or memory. In your case - assuming you ESXi host have not more than 2 Sockets - I suggest that you take a look at the edition of Essentials.

  • ESXi 3.5 Update 4 virtual machines cannot boot from ISO image stored on the server

    Ok

If I have one of my virtual machines of ESXi configured to use an ISO image sitting on my server ESXi, they cannot boot from this image.  This is after you click "ESC" during startup in order to change the startup CD-ROM.  I have this a known issue, or I'm just doing something wrong?  If I have the vms use an ISO sitting on my desktop (using Infrastructure Client) it works fine.

Or the answer is even simpler, make sure I connect at power on.

OK, Yes!  But some of the things we take for granted... haha...

  • Problems IBM BladeCenter S ESXI 5.0

    Hello

I need help because it's been more than me that I me down with my IBM Bladecenter S and VmWare esxi 5.0.

    Configuration of our Lady:

    BladeCenter S 8886

5 blades HS22 7870 with SAS (CIOv) connectivity cards

    2 modules NUMBER

Of we have the option configured "Lun to search the block devices" SAS connectivity card on "Lun 0 only" because we have the boot on san for hypervisors.

Pour policies manage the paths to the disks since the ESXi are configured on 'Fixed '.

Operating system: ESXi 5.0 (boot on san)

Two clusters are made between the 5 blades with a shared storage pour access to VMS and allow the migration to hot.

    The problem:

The hosts lose access to LUNS on which virtual machines are located.

Reduce the number of this type Hauptstr we noticed when insulating each LUN on a single host, the problem was much less, the activate option but we happens the HA to pay and to make migration hot.

The problem seems to happen when the number of i/O disk becomes high.

    Attempted procedures:

Update of firmware Modules NUMBER, we went on a updated version officially ESXi 5.0 (1.2.3.006)

Update the firmware of the blades with Tmob, updating also card SAS connectivity.

The certifier we did support and compatibility of our material by material support of IBM, at the request of the IBM Software support.

Sending many bundle vmsupport, with newspapers and configuration, software to analyze support.

Notre Dame configuration support for IBM Labs we have indicated what they.

The problem was also occurred en ESXi 4 Update 1 version, but only 2 times and with less of VMs, so less i/o.

We are waiting for a correct solution on the part of IBM since September 2011, we still have to intervene too often day and night on our servers because of these crashes that even if they are less scouring with the insulation of the luns, still prevent us from sleep.

Thanks for your help, she is welcome!
