ESXi memory on commissioning?

There are many posts and links all over the web on this subject, but some are contradictory and some other not answered completely, so I thought I would ask here. I currently have 8 GB of RAM in my box of ESXi. I have 4 VM with memory assigned as follows: DC - 2 GB, EXCH - 3 GB, DEV - 1.5 GB, WEB - 1.5 GB. I have VMware Tools installed on all guests. Its use on the summary page is between 6.3 and 7.8 GB depending on what I am connected to and what I do. Now for the questions...

How much of a gain sharing is actually give GST? I thought that I'm able to add an another VM 1 GB with memory from the shared pages. Is there a way to check on the amount saved with TPS?

I use a single WD VelociRaptor 300 GB for the virtual machine. It's a pretty good running in an office environment, but there is no match compared to the same simple RAID company. As I understand it, if I add an another VM and take the total allocated more than 8 GB of memory, the hypervisor will be forced to use balloning or start paging on its own. Is this correct? Would it not be better, from the performance perspective, in order to reduce the memory allocated from my current VM is a little to catch an addition VM 1 GB?

TIA.

Look at the ESXTOP and am hit' to see what is happening with your memory in real time. Keep in mind according to which version of ESXi, you run overcommiting isn't automatically VMs of Monteiro will swap. Virtual machines will swap only if balooning and compression (4.1) does not give the necessary memory. ESXTOP should help you get the statistics that you are looking to make a smart decision... good luck...

I have try to disable my VGA card and everything in the bios.

I try to add the line minmemorycheck = "False" (http://www.yellow-bricks.com/2009/05/08/running-vsphere-within-workstation-will-take-up-a-lot-of-memory/)

I have no idea what to do I orderred some already of memory (2 GB), but I have to wait 10 days until they sent because the suplyer is slow...

    I hope someone can help!

I'm afraid that the only reliable solution is to add memory. You might have seen in other discussions, some users have been able to install ESXi after a BIOS update for example,..., but with only 2 GB of RAM - even if you are able to install ESXi - you can't do a lot (such as the installation of VMS).

If mi pregunta are configurated United Nations pool o varios Poole of maquinas vituales yo con back gigas of memoria cada maquina aunque solo use a giga cada maquina mayoria del tiempo, Los dos gigas cada maquina siempre estan por completo might memoria a cada maquina virtual desde el esxi o el host back gigas Máquina los space solo cuando los asingna?

Son 2 things distintas.  Efectivamente en El host a fisico nivel, pero el hecho that 'free' memoria tengas, going to a worm el uso real memoria of the MV, no means that the con usar, is that if tienes memoria reserva, esta supuesta 'free' memoria, can that no sea realmente lo.

  • Recommendations of VMware ESXi memory?

I run a G5 DL380 with 16 GB of RAM.  We have four virtual machines of WIndows with 2 GB assign one, 4 GB full-time assigned each to two others and 5.5 GB assigned to the last.  That leaves 512 MB of left to the service console.  I want to know if this is recommended or if there is a better way to do like sharing memory etc.. Thanks in advance.

    Hello

Memory allocations (allocation) are the maximum rates of real memory, so that means if the VM needs 4 GB and you allocate 2 that it swap the disk. Granting of 4Gig does not mean this will keep the RAM. If the virtual machine does not use memory, it will be returned to the pool. If you have placed a reservation on the memory, then it will monopolize the memory under contention.

So every VM requires memory overhead to support hardware virtualization. ~ 100-400 Meg Depending processors etc.

The best way to allocate memory is to grant what you think will be the absolute max and leave bookings to unlimited for the rental of the virtual machine, the optimizations memory deal with it.

    Hello to all,

I like installare ESXi knew SD my non conosco he ciclo di vita di una SD, inoltre in caso di guasto della SD devo reinstallare the macchina!

I like sapere is è qualcuno di voi che ha avuto Schweizer in installazioni di questo tipo, e gia is this sound more controindicazioni.

In realtà scheda SD viene usata solo durante he boot (poi ESXi ramdisk su works) e written periodically (mi pare o una due volte all'ora) per salvare the configurazione.

Quindi no this sound particularly controindicazioni.

SE TR break if... reinstallare devi...

One way to do this easier would be to create an array with the elements you want on it, as the name of the virtual machine, the use of the processor etc... and then you can filter/sort by CPU utilization, memory usage etc. and only have the Top 10 or anything else you like.

  • ESXi Shared memory of commom and UCS B200M2

I vSphere 4.x environment to IBM 3650 and half B200M2 (a group consisting of the 3650 and a group consisting of the B200M2).  IBM machines are 2 socket quad core with 34 GB of memory and Cisco are 2 Socket 6 core with 48 GB of memory.  Workloads on IBM and Cisco ESXi hosts are the same.  For most of 2008 and Windows 2003 machines.  On IBM machines, I move 1 GB, 2 GB of shared memory (common shared memory - amount of memory that is shared by all virtual machines powered and vSphere services on host machine) on each ESXi host.  On Cisco machines, I get around 15 MB on each ESXi host. Considering that it is one of the great features of VMware (sharing of memory) why is there such a huge disparity between the machines?  Is it because the Cisco blades NUMA machines?  Is there a setting I'm missing?  It's a huge difference.  I don't regret getting the UCS stuff I like it but it is the big novelty of the VMware that does not work with the UCS.

  • ESXi vmkernel memory BusyBox shell

    Hello

is it possible to increase the memory of BusyBox shell for ESXi. I would like to run some scripts in ESXi for example virtual machine backup scripts. Thank you

    Hi Ray,

in fat Client, it should be like this - go to Configuration-> System Resource Allocation tab, click Advanced, and in the tree view of the view just keep hitting key B until "busybox" & their PID, then just click on change settings and allocate your memory as you wish. I don't know if it will be persistent once it is charging well.

I hope this helped - see you soon!

Edit: Oh, just increase the reserve memory for "init" & fiddling around with the limits would be perhaps more effective - but it's up to your tests, I will be happy to hear the results.

  • ESXi 5.1 cannot start a virtual machine with Admission check has no memory error

I see that there were a number of people who have this error and adjusting the reserve memory for the VIM under resources system has solved this problem, but not for me. My booking in the VIM process setting is '0'. Vital signs:

    Reference Dell T110 II server

    4 GB OF RAM

    Intel Xeon processor E31220 @ 3.10 GHz

    4 cores of the processor

    Hard drive 500 GB

    ESXi version 5.1

A Linux VM with 4 GB RAM allocation, 2 cores of CPU and 45 GB of storage.

Error I get on a attempted to start:

Has no power on the virtual machine.

Could not power on VM: check for Admission has no resource memory see the management of VMware ESX Resource Guide for management information settings.

Group vm.4757: can not admint VM: admission of memory has failed. booking request: 536579 pages

I changed the memory to the VM all the way up to 1 GB, no change.

I played a bit with the allocation of memory VIM, no change.

A fact interesting is that the Allocation of resources for the tab host watch memory @ 1747MB capacity, capacity reserved @ 0MB and available @ 1747MB capacity, but I have 4 GB of RAM and the vSphere Client shows it under the Configuration tab.

Did anyone know when the fix for ESXi 5.5, which has problems with PCI cards that use areas of memory less than 4 k, as described here https://communities.vmware.com/message/2351080#2351080, will be available?

    Thank you!

Yes, the fix for this problem must be in ESXi 5.5 U2.  Let us know if you encounter any additional problems using PCI Passthrough with your device.

  • config of memory in esxi with a hyper-v virtual machine on.

First of all, Thanks for the help.

I set up a Home Lab with ESXi 5.1.
J’ai several Linux machines. J’ai a virtual machine Windows Server 2012 Hyper -v.
I would like to know what the optimal parameters in order to maximize the 32 GB of RAM to the virtual machine Windows. ()when I use this machine do not use any other ESXi virtual machine)
J’ai not clear that if administered dynamically memory for this VM in ESXi when you manage Hyper v, dynamic Management of memory will be use all the RAM.

Thank you for everything, I hope that I have explained.

How much memory is your ESXi has? If you have not set up a special configuration for the virtual Windows machine, the ESXi Server uses the common techniques of overcommitment with the virtual machine. If you have more than 32 GB of RAM on your box of ESXi, you'll never overcommited (assuming that your other virtual machines are turned off). So the ESXi will give access to the physical to your Windows virtual machine memory as long as she asks for.

You can also ensure the physical to the virtual machine by using reservations memory, if you want to.

  • ESXi 5.1 - Exchange 2007 - file Page memory and CPU allocation

I'm currently migrating a class Cluster CSC Exchange 2007 running on vmware on windows 2008, 2003.  It is also a SCC Cluster.  I followed all of the vmware and MS best practices, but not sure of one thing IM is the size of memory and CPU allocation page/swap file.  I have 5 Esxi hosts and each is running only Exchange 2007 comments according to vmware and MS recommendations when you use the Clustering of CSC.

Each host has 2 CPUs to 6 cores per processor and 48 gb of Ram and that each host will have only a guest, would like to send it to the guest.  I read somewhere that it is recommended this page exchange 2007 memory size + 10 mb file.  Do I really need to get the page to the size of the file?  250 GB of disk space is a lot for swap files! IM also not sure what to set the allocation processor too.  If someone can point me in the right direction, I would be grateful.

    Thank you

    Dave

    Hi dlargeit,

First of all, off - welcome to the VMTN forums!

I'm with Josh26 I've ever seen any recommendations indicating that when a CCS cluster virtualization virtual machine by host is taken in charge. It is recommended to keep only a single node SCC by host (which is true for all virtual clusters or technologies like Exchange CSC/CCR/DAG), but there is nothing specific regarding the keep only a single virtual machine by host.

On the file page, you are actually right on that.  For Exchange 2007, the paging file must be on the amount of memory configured as well as 10 MB to account for overhead costs of the kernel.  It is recommended by Microsoft and it is planned to provide enough space page Exchange should exchange more provide the necessary overhead if meet you a server failure and need to create a complete memory dump.

You can find this recommendation here: http://technet.microsoft.com/library/aa996719 (EXCHG.80) .aspx

In terms of CPU allocation, which should really be made according to your individual needs rather than just give all the resources the VM on the ESXi host.  Microsoft lists the maximum recommended for processor resources (Planning Processor Configurations: Exchange 2007 help) and it says that 12 hearts is the maximum for mailbox or Hub Transport box.  Is your really big enough environment need a lot of CPU resources?  Why not start small and increase it if necessary?

You are in control of your own destiny in some of these configurations.  If you know the recommended page file size is 10 MB of RAM +, do not give the server more RAM is really needed, or you will have to pay for it in the consumed disk space to host the pagefile.  See the guide to memory resources (Planning Memory Configurations: Exchange 2007 help) to understand the maximum rates of memory for Exchange.  You will see that the maximum memory is 32GB, so there are very few reasons to assign all 48GB of RAM on your server, if it can even use.

In short, the size of the server based on the real needs and I am confident, that you will have a virtualized Exchange system that performs as well as physical.
