ESXi monitoring material 5

Hello

I would like to watch my 5 ESXi hardware. That's why I need to get information through WBEM as SNMP is no longer supported.

How what can be done with vFoglight (6,6)?

I did some research on google and watched through the discussions on this community and was not able to find something useful.

Thank you

Daniel

I've been plugging away on it these last time and made progress on the IPMI/CIM data.  I would really like to remove vcenter directly, but their API turns out be quite a pain in the way that they meet each provider.  In the end, I'll probably write a custom agent who gets what I need directly from each host periodically from each host directly.  In the end, I think whether or not it will work better since I can then use it to any host running VMware.

    Hello Stefan,

There is an existing extension that accomplishes what you want and it can be found at http://communities.quest.com/docs/DOC-5658 - I have not implemented this myself, but I've heard other users that it works very well. Let us know if this is consistent with what you are looking for, and we would be happy to help you with questions of integration.

  • ESXi monitoring

    Chaps

I want to extract information such as temperature CPU host ESXi, HD, CPU temperatures total (on all virtual machines), use NIC statistics.

Is it possible to do in a Virtual Machine running on the host? There are many tools such as Aida64, Speedfan, CPU - Z that can do this directly under Windows on a physical PC but not anything seen interrgogates ESXi hypervisors.

    Thank you.

VM has no real direct access to the underlying hardware. So you can not monitor hardware health directly. You can use the client-server approach, but it requires some sort of software for ESXi. Generally in this way you can monitor that is by VM raid controllers...

But most of the above mentioned parameters can be monitored by the ESXi if you hardware is located in (you can see it in vSphere Client). So, by using a programming script you can collect these data by virtual machine.

  • Alerts on ESXi monitoring

    Hello

Used stand-alone ESXi for some of our test without vCentre environments and I'm trying to see if there is anyway we can configure alerts for the ESXi server as those in vCentre.

But since our ESXi does not use vCentre we don't have these predefined, alert rules does anyone have suggestions or advice on the utilities or free tools that we can do. We want to do is just keep and eye on things like host CPU and RAM use disk and send alerts after reaching a certain threshold.

I have this custom a bit to ensure surveillance of the material just for guests unmanaged of ESXi by running a scheduled daily task and sends an e-mail if alerts are detected.  It happens that spurred on a disk failure a couple of days, which otherwise has gone unnoticed for weeks.

I'll put some info about this on my blog next week (as well as some scripts to automate the operations of vm on unmanaged hosts).

  • ESXi with material not in HCL

    Hello

I'm new here and this is my first post.

I have a question about ESXi running on hardware that is not specified explicitly in the HCL.

We are about to buy a mobile system:

    There is a shuttle (SG45H7)

    Chipset: Intel G45 Express + ICH10

    Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 S775 (4x2.66 GHz)

    RAM: 4 x 4 GB DDR2 FB800

    HARD drive: 2 x WD 1.0 TB

I do not have event find Intel Core 2 Quad in the compatibility list, but I have found a few discussions where people have written, they run ESXi on these processors.

Is there a problem with the material above or should it just work properly?

Thank you very much for your answers!

    Bye,.

    Fritz

I managed to install VMware ESX 4.0.0 Build 164009 on a Shuttle SG45H7.

My Shuttle SG45H7 is configured with a Xeon 3350 (@2. 66 Ghz), 8 GB (4x2Go Kingston) and a map PCIexpress of SuperMicro AOC-SG-i4 4xGigabit (4 x Intel 82576). SATA is configured as AHCI.

I installed VMware ESX 4.0.0 using the text Installer.

FYI: I have not tried the SG45H7 shuttle with sticks of memory, 4x4GB, and some people report problems with 16 GB on the forum of the American shuttle.

  • ESXi unsupported material available?

With the information from the forums, I managed to get ESXi 3.5.0 installed on my disks SATA ICH10 (motherboard Asus P5Q Pro).

Of course, the problem now is that the network adapter is not supported. I can get a supported adapter. but before I would like to know if the card on Board will be available for the guests at all OS?

The answer tells me that if I buy a NIC 1 or 2-way to put in my last slot PCI-E x 16

it your ESX host do not see the NETWORK card, then your guests will not be able to either.

  • Monitoring Server tools - advice, guidance, help please

    Hello

First off let me say ESXI is incredible and flat works great!  I am an essential when it comes to vmware and I just finished the upgrade/migration of our entire company in a store of SBS2000 Server 2008 Standard THAT VM hosted in ESXI.  Let me tell you, configure ESXI hosts was the easiest part of this together lol.  I'm looking for a tool that can monitor the ESXI hosts and send alerts by e-mail/sms and or potentially stop VM.  For example: Say the air conditioner died an extremely hot day weekend and our machines are overheated.  Y at - it a tool that will alert via smtp/sms and initiate the command stop to our VM and then host PMs?  I am that it is difficult to understand how this is possible because I don't see how the software could run in a virtual machine and access "to the" actual conditions ESXI host material...  At least I'm looking for a tool that can send by e-mail/sms alerts if there is a problem then I'd be able to address the issue before any damage occurred.

We currently have two hosts ESXI 4.0 on Dell PowerEdge T610 servers.  I used the ESXI version specifically for Dell servers (if that helps).

Three virtual machines, two Server 2008 Standard, and Server 2008 R2.  If you know all the tools that would allow me to achieve what I mentioned above I would be very happy.  I did a good amount of research on the web but not found a solution that meets all our needs still.  It can be opened or payware.

    Thanks for your time,

    Dustin

I use a temperature monitor unit http://www.temperaturealert.com/ it would take some scripts but J1mbo could be combined to create a clean shutdown.

There are probably hundreds of things to worry about. Don't get too hung up on only one.

  • Using the cmdlet Get-stats for the problems of performance of ESXi

I need to detect the bottlenecks (if any) causing poor performance with a (free) 5.5 ESXi host.

I see that if I use the cmdlet Get - stat PowerCLI I get dozens of meters, such as "mem.usage.average" or "'rescpu.maxlimited1.latest ', just to give two samples. "

Can I identify a subset of the counters I should follow to identify possible bottlenecks in the fastest way possible?

    Concerning

    Everything depends of course.

There are several positions which list a number of key counters to watch.

  • VROPS 6.0-5.1 ESXi crossing

Ok.  I get conflicting information.  For vROPS 6.0 release notes say it must support 5.1 ESXi monitoring hosts, but the matrix product Intercompatiblity said anything other than 5.5 is only supported.

It seems that even if I did have any warning during migration than 5.5 is only supported as no other host saves the data.  Is this true?  Or am I missing something?

Can anyone confirm that they monitor with vROPS 6.0 5.1 ESXi hosts?  If so, no matter what special config on the side of the vROPS?  Or I'm crazy to think it should work?

I can confirm that we vROPS 6.0 running and monitoring 5.1 ESXi hosts Yes.

We also monitor a 3.5 host esx on a vCenter 4.1. Collecting metrics very well... Probably not taken in charge, but that market...

  • Installation of operating system 64-bit on ESXi in lab environment

I have an AMD Phenom II X processor 4 965 3.40 GHz on my pc with 8 GB of RAM. I installed vmware workstation 8 on it. I want to create a vmware view lab environment. I installed ESXi 5 on my vmware workstation and tried to install windows server 2008 R2 64-bit on it but every time I tried I faced with an error message saying that the 64-bit operating system is not possible. I neet to install windows server 2008 R2 64-bit for the transfer running server and you know this server must be a virtual thing and should be managed by vcenter server.

According to the newspaper, the choice of 'Virtualiser VT-x/EPT or AMD-V/IVR' should not be available in the settings of the virtual machine to the virtual machine.  Note that this box is different from the drop-down list "preferred method".

Virtualized EPT-x/VT or AMD-V/IVR is a new feature introduced with Workstation 8.0 and requires the latest virtual material.  First of all, upgrade your VM ESXi virtual material by going to VM-> manage-> change hardware compatibility and select compatibility with "Workstation 8.0."  Then, change the settings of the virtual machine, click the processors tab and check the box 'Virtualiser VT-x/EPT or AMD-V/IVR.'

  • vCenter hardware monitoring

We are short of ESX4 U1 with vcenter. We have HP servers, but we have not implemented a System Insight Manager server. Recently we had a drive fail to our camp and did not know until we received a call from the colo. We try to avoid putting in place a SIM server for monitoring equipment. Is there a way for vCenter to monitor material events such as disk failure, etc...

    Thank you

    Scott

You can configure vCenter alerts to send an email when there is a problem.  We use solarwinds, but you can set an alarm to trigger and send you an email.

Here is an example of how to do to send alerts via vCenter.

USB virtualization is not yet available in ESX/ESXi 3.x or 4.0.

    Maybe in the future releases.
