Evacuation of the virtual machines before maintenance mode

When ESX is placed in maintenance mode - it should give you a vmotion option functioning of the virtual machines on the other hosts in the same cluster?  Or it only move down vms to other hosts?

Thank you

DRS is your friend here, ensuring that VMS are evacuated.

If you are unable to vMotion VMs manually from the host, the y is unable to escape during operations in Maintenance mode. The host will therefore go not in maintenance mode before having been involved and sort the vMotion.

Most often, CD-ROM etc are involved here, but validation of vMotion also includes such things as the availability of resources and port groups (that is, if a group of ports corresponding to that used by the virtual machine is not available on another host in the cluster that has the resources available, the vMotion will not pass validfation and the virtual machine will remain on the host of 'Maintenance Mode').

  • Shared behavior of the virtual machine on the host system shutdown

Shared behavior of the virtual machine on the host system shutdown

    Greetings,

I installed WIn7 - 64 bit host system, WS8 and there seems to be a very nice and high quality configuration. I am very happy.

There is a shared VM and it's a Setup 64-bit Ubuntu 10.04 Server functioning as a base configuration LAMP for some basic web applications, etc..

I was unable to find the settings to control the behavior of the VM shared with the system that hosts stop. When I stop the host system, I believe that the common VM is off tension or stop gracefully, I don't know who. What I like best is for the shared VM will not apply instead. The reason is that starting the virtual machine is a bit complicated and requires manual intervention. Whereas, if it is stopped since a State suspended without manual intervention is necessary.

I found that if there is a loss of power, I can hibernate the host system in time before my battery runs out. Resuming the host hibernate system works correctly and the VM shared within WS8 is back to its previous functional State.

It would be nice and helpful being able to stop or restart the host system and know that the shared virtual machine has been automatically suspended. So now I have to log on to the user account from the host system and open WS8 and manually suspend the virtual machine before you stop or restart the host system.

Is there a way to have the shared VM automatically suspended when the host system is stop?

Thank you for your time and attention.

You can configure the stop action by editing the following file:

    %ProgramData%\VMware\hostd\vmAutoStart.XML

If you want to configure the action stop for all virtual machines, find the section of under the section. Change it on hold

If you want to change the action stop for only this one machine virtual, you must first configure this shared VM to be started automatically (in WS, right-click on the item 'VMs shared' in the library, select "manage computers virtual auto-start '). After doing this, manually change the vmAutoStart.xml. Find the entry for the virtual machine in the section (if you have more than one computer configured to autostart virtual, it will take some more digging to understand what VM to change). Change the entry for this virtual machine to hang.

Save the file. Reboot the host (not auto-start power actions are only made when the host is restarted). Now when stop you the host, WS should suspend the VM (s)

As always, manually edit the configuration files is not considered supported its use. Save the file before you edit. Adjust at your own risk.

  • Save the number of the Virtual Machine: expand the size of the virtual disk of Guest OS affect the physical disk on the host operating system files?

    People,

Hello. I use 3 Player VM and Guest OS Windows Server 2003. The host OS is Windows 7. I need to increase the size of the VM disk, so who can install several systems in the guest OS. If something bad happens during the expansion of the size of the virtual disk, the guest operating system and its Applications will not work. Thus, before expanding the size of the virtual disk, I need to back up the virtual machine hard disk external.

I have check the disk hard host operating system Windows 7, the path is C:\VirtualMachine\WindowsServer2003\... When I get to the top of the virtual machine on the external hard drive, simply select the 'VirtualMachine' folder and save automatically. I have 3 questions as follows:

First of all, if something bad happens during the expansion of the size of the virtual disk, the guest operating system and its Applications do not work. Can I just delete the folder 'VirtualMachine' in the host operating system?

Secondly, the problem of the first question does not affect files in the physical hard disk to host operating system?

Third, if something wrong happens during expand the size of the virtual disk of OS guest, I simply delete the folder 'VirtualMachine' in the host operating system and load the original 'VirtualMachine' from the external hard drive in the host operating system. Yes.

That's right, as long as you have not added and other virtual disks of different folders on the host of the virtual machine, you can probably did not.

After developing the size of the virtual disk, you must also change the size of the partition in the guest operating system.

  • ESXi 4 - move the virtual machine to different hardware

Hello everyone, I'm new to VMWare. I was wondering if I say ESXi 4 running on a Dell poweredge 2800 dual processor with 2 VM I could take these virtual machines and move them (the moving process no matter as long as it is possible) a dual processor Dell Poweredge 2950 with different RAID card, RAM, CPU, etc, and ESXi 4 is also installed, etc. it would work?

    Thank you!

Like you, I'm pretty new to VMWare. That being said, I have 2 servers ESXi right now, and I moved the computer virtual from one to the other without problem. I vSphere Essentials, and it was very easy to ' cold migrate "a virtual machine from one server to the other. The host of the virtual machine (white non-liste) origin is simply a HP dc7900 PC with a quad-core processor and 8 GB of RAM. The new host of the virtual machine is a Dell 2850 (non-whtelisted) with 2 processors duo-core and 8 GB RAM. The virtual machine has been the guest of 32-bit OS (Windows XP), while she had no problem. I can't move my Windows Server 2008 VM for your Dell printer, because it does not support 64-bit for the guest operating system (the processors are not compatible VT).

The only thing that will happen is that Windows (XP, in this caes) will have to go through the process of Validation WIndows again, because there are some major hardware changes, as seen by the operating system. Not a big deal, just soemthing to consider. I also had to re - check my Adobe products on this virtual computer, as I did not have the unvalidate on the virtual machine before moving on to the virtual machine. Adobe also thought that it was a whole new PC, so I had to call & make them validate the installation manually.

  • Unable to connect to use Windows XP mode on a Virtual Machine, cannot share files between the Virtual Machine and host

Because of the need to run some XP programs, I ordered Win7 Pro and installed a Virtual Machine with XP Mode.

Managed to get it going somehow, but does not connect to my home network (can't see any other computers, which seems to be common with the host of Win 7, but here, I managed to install quick links to other computers - they will not work in XP Mode), even if the Internet connection is working perfectly.

In addition, I can't find a way to share files with the host country, drive C appears to be different from that of the hosts with no common points (where it is currently stored beats me).

I can access a USB key, but only at a price to make it unavailable to the host and the attempt to release his capture when running XP Mode failed.

  • I get an error "the disk hard virtual parent is in a saved state. Discard the saved state or stop the virtual machine and try again. "during the installation of XP mode.

I have Win7 Pro SP1 x 64.  I downloaded WindowsXPMode_en - us.exe (from Microsoft downloads) and run it.  The installation seems to work OK (I've specified a different location for the parent virtual hard disk file).  Then, installation happening and I provide the information requested (name of user and password for the XP Mode), updates Windows and OK to the issue of sharing.  The installation program then reports the following error:

The disk hard virtual parent is in a saved state.  Discard the saved state or stop the virtual machine and try again.

I get the error even if I try manually configure XP Mode (use the Setup Wizard).  I downloaded the installer XPMode (3 times) and reinstalled several times, always with the same result.  If it helps, I can't locate anywhere .vsv file.

    Any idea what's going on?

  • Using vmrun to obtain an IP address when you run the virtual machine mode headless fails customers

Operating system: OS X Yosemite 10.10.5

VMware Fusion: Professional Version 8.1.1 (3771013)

When you run a VM guest in headless mode I can't use vmrun to get IP clients. If I eventually bring to the top/start the merger GUI, the command returns the IP address as planned. It is always reproducible.

    $ vmrun -T fusion start "path/to/MyVMs.vmx" nogui
    2016-06-12T10:55:46.626| ServiceImpl_Opener: PID 11515

... wait for VM to come up. If the VM has a static IP address I can now ssh into the instance.

    $ vmrun -T fusion getGuestIPAddress "path/to/MyVMs.vmx"
Error: The VMware Tools are not running in the virtual machine: "path/to/MyVMs.vmx"

    $ vmrun -T fusion checkToolsState "path/to/MyVMs.vmx"
    installed

... Start the VMware GUI and ensure the VM's console window is open

    $ vmrun -T fusion getGuestIPAddress "path/to/MyVMs.vmx"
    192.168.100.23

I tested with open-vm-tools and tools VMware packaged with the merger and the behavior is the same. I also spoke with others on the channel of freenode #vmware who have confirmed that the problem exists for users of workstation as well.

    Hi danandham,

Welcome in the vmware community. Iyou s really a problem, we try to fix it.

After a command, you can use as a workaround:

    vmrun t fusion getGuestIPAddress "path/to/MyVMs.vmx" - wait

  • ZPrint accident of process before starting the virtual machine

I see the following messages in system.log everytime my Windows VM starts. These accidents zprint apparently never happened before today. There is no previous accident for zprint report. The messages below always repeat 3 times before other messages on VM, commissioning.

09/02/15 21:20:33... Report of incidents ReportCrash [7538] advice for zprint processes [7537]

    09/02/15 21:20:33... ReportCrash [7538] error saved crashreport to /Library/Logs/CrashReporter/zprint_2015-02-09-212033_...crash using uid: gid 0: 0, euid: egid 0: 0

Extract from the report of crash:

    Exception type: EXC_ARITHMETIC (SIGFPE)

Exception codes: EXC_I386_DIV (division by zero)

Why the merger issues the command zprint? If she has always done so before, why is zprint now blocking?

(If I run the terminal zprint command without specifying the name of the area it blocks the same way.)

    Anyone have any ideas?

Some things that I did today that might be important:

My Mac Pro locked up while I was running Firefox (open Youtube and Yahoo pages).  I pushed the power button / stop. The virtual Windows machine was running at the time.

After restarting the Mac Pro, when I tried to start the virtual machine, I got the message: "... vmdk has one or more internal errors that cannot be repaired. The only option is to restore from a backup copy of this disk... »

So I renamed the corrupt VM bundle, then drag-and - drop copied all of the virtual machine to a backup volume.

When I started the virtual machine restored, I noticed the crash zprint above messages.

    Thank you!

    OS X 10.5.8, Fusion 3.1.4

Fusion uses zprint to internal information of the kernel which are very difficult to obtain by other means.

Given how long it has been since OS X 10.5.8 or Fusion 3.1.4 were changed, either something has been corrupted or something has changed in the system environment for that to happen early.  I can't find any other references to zprint triggering a SIGFPE anywhere else on the Internet...

If you do not already done, I highly recommend running disk utility and check (and possibly repair) the disks of your host before doing anything else.

    See you soon,.

  • How to save a virtual machine before you remove the disc

Very new to VMWare, with Essentials 5.5 the VSphere Client.  I have a virtual machine, I would like to remove from the disk, but want to copy, in the cases where I need to turn the crank upward once again, the host before the withdraw. Is it fairly easy to achieve?  However, I have to remove the inventory, by copying the file to the vm from the data store, add it to the inventory then disconnected the floppy again.  Would support this work if I already needed to put the virtual machine?

    Thanks for any idea!

You can download the files of the virtual directory of the data store computer and that you need to remove the inventory, just stop the virtual machine to release the locks on files.

  • Start a virtual machine in offline mode? (i.e. If it is not on the network)

I want to be able to start a virtual machine and modify network settings before I allow it to connect to the network.  The physical equivalent of this would be to pull the cable network on a server before starting, then the changes after startup and then plug the cable back in.

Is there some equivalent to this in VMWare?  Can someone suggest a procedure for this?

Go to the virtual machine settings and uncheck the box "connect to power on" for the network card.

  • Operating system of the virtual machine attempted to activate the adapter Ethernet0 promiscuous mode. This is not allowed for security reasons.

    Hi all

When I start my vm I get error

"Operating system of the virtual machine attempted to activate the adapter Ethernet0 promiscuous mode. This is not allowed for security reasons. »

    I have been to this page http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 287

From this page, on my webhost, I created a group called "vmware-vmnet0", then I add the user running vmware to this group.  I can give this rw on/dev/vmnet0 group permissions

However, I still get the same error above on starting the virtual machine each time.  How can I solve this terrible problem.

    Thank you.

Device nodes are re-created at boot time.  You can thank Linux udev.  To work around this problem, create the vmnet devices * with the ownership and the permissions you want under/lib/udev/devices.

  • Transport mode "nbdssl" is not available if the virtual machine has no snapshot

When I use VixDiskLib_ConnectEx with a vmdk having a snapshot, I "nbdssl". If the virtual machine has no snapshot, I've always had "nbd" no matter what I specified in the parameter transportModes of the VixDiskLib_ConnectEx. I tried NULL, "nbdssl". It affects always unconditionally "nbd" when there is no snapshot.

Is this expected behavior? If so, I am not able to write safely to a vmdk. During a recovery, I create a new vm. However, there is no snapshot. I want to get back to this vmdk.  How to work around this limitation of security?

You use 1.1?  nbdssl restores are not supported on 1.1.

  • Cannot move the virtual machine to another host

Here's the situation... I am running 3 ESX 4.0 host in a cluster and I upgrade the memory on these hosts.  I put one day and now I want to use vmotion to move a virtual machine to host more memory, so I can then turn off host 2 to add more memory.

When I try to migrate the computer to another virtual host he said "the virtual machine must be powered down for that purpose."

I did it before with success when I first created this group with the HA and DRS settings are enabled.

Now, I can't do this and I don't know what setting or what changed to cause it to not allow me to manually migrate a virtual computer on one host to another.

If I wanted to put an ESX host in "Maintenance Mode" thinking that it will automatically move all VM for 2 other hosts in the cluster is not it either... I get a message saying that ' a host into maintenance mode does not any virtual machine functions... blah... blah... and continues to complete the entry into maintenance mode, all virtual machines must be closed or moved to another host. "  Manual intervention may be required.

Again, I think that if a host is down these VMs would be move... that of the whole point of a cluster but doesn't seem to put in maintenance mode to allow them to go unless I turn off the virtual machine

    Any ideas?

Go is one of the requirements of vMotion. The message after you had corrected the condition, I'm sure would be erased after awhile.
