Excel &; Yosemite
I work as a volunteer doing admin for a charity. The main database is an Excel document (why I have no idea!). I have pages and allows me to read and save Excel files.
Would be the installation of Microsoft Office (if this so-called software which contains Word, Excel and Powerpoint) only the iMac that has Yosemite for its OS work, OK? I have read that people have had problems but Don ' know there is classes / history.
Both the previous Office 2011 for Mac and present office 2016 for Mac products will install and work on Yosemite. I would first check that the iMac has 4 GB or more of RAM installed and has 10.10.5 Yosemite Park and installed updates. If an older version of Yosemite is installed, then apply Yosemite 10.10.5 update combo , after the first execution of a full backup of the iMac. Update combo, under normal circumstances, does not affect the base directories. Also, make sure you use the Time Machine backups on an external drive.
Once each Office is installed, you must use Microsoft AutoUpdate to keep applications up-to-date with updates of Microsoft products, or you may encounter some anomalies that have been reported. Some of these future updates can expect Yosemite 10.10.5 installed.

I have a spreadsheet with all the file names of my Sibelius (.sib) scores without import/y attach files to a 2011 Excel workbook. I tried different ways to help automate it, but it seems to only be able to export .txt files in Excel. On some combinations, I tried, even lets link you to files that I'm not interested by - all I want is a list (editable preference) of my file names so that you can see them all in one area and check what I have / I do not have.
I use Yosemite 10.10.5 (I don't want to upgrade to El Capitan due to driver compatibility issues) and Microsoft Office for Mac 2011.

I can't help you with Automator, but there is a solution.
1. launch Firefox.
2. drag the folder with the files in the Firefox window. (The example is a folder of image files)
3 - Select all the entries on the page in Firefox:
5 - remove the size and last modified columns. To remove the links reformat the text column.

I started by spending eight hours per person in total entry of data into a new file numbers "clean". Once completed, I needed to share this data with anyone who has only Excel. So I thought I'd just to export this file in Excel and send it to him. But...
When I try to convert a file of numbers in Excel, data I click file > export > Excel, Next > select the destination > export.
I get the error message: "Error exporting the file 'nom_archive' could not be found."
Where 'filename' is a file I probably had on my hard drive a few years back, but is long gone.
I tried cutting all the data of the file numbers I'm trying to convert to and paste into a new file numbers. Same error message.
Anyone ever heard of this, or knows how to get around it?
I have not heard of it, but another option would be to open the document numbers, select all and copy paste into a spreadsheet of LibreOffice, then save in Excel format. You can download and install LibreOffice toll-free and it has excellent compatibility with Excel: https://www.libreoffice.org

There is no guarantee anyone, that it will work and if you find it does not work for you no one will solve this problem, never.
in order to maximize the possibility that it will work, I suggest a clean install with nothing that can be present to interfere.
to do this follow these steps:
Back up your computer with Time Machine
do a clean install of the OS 10.11.3
Since your administrative account to install CS4 and run photoshop
install JAVA 2015 for Mac
Update CS by photoshop.
Restore your Time Machine data for the remaining data.
We have a server that has been recently upgraded to El Capitan with new version of the application server is installed. We have activated with Open Directory for all users of the file-sharing network. Network users who connect get this error message when registering files excel on the server:
When this file is then reopened, there is an error saying that the file is damaged and you want to try to fix it. The repair never works.
What happens 9/10 times only Excel files on our server Mac users and different computers. Open Directory has been rebuilt and added users, but we have the same problem. All users (about 8) use Macs with Yosemite and El Capitan. All users use Office for Mac 2011. Server running OS X Lion mountain with server before, while we went through a deletion and installation to make sure that we started with the parameters of charges. All data is stored on a separate internal hard drive "Data HD" and is separated from the HD of server where the OS is installed. Permissions for data HD and all folders in have been re-spread so we are sure they are 100% accurate overall. Server has 16 GB of memory, so I highly doubt that it is actually a memory problem. Users are able to save Excel files on their desks from the end server, so it is certainly related to the server.
Everything worked fine with the previous operating system. Any suggestions would be super useful. I'm pretty tech-savvy Apple, but this one left me speechless.
Have you tested AFP vs SMB?
Default value is SMB.
Try to force AFP using: afp: / /.
If the question of the effects of the SMB only, then disable SMB (my preferred solution when there is no windows user) or activate the ACL for SMB.

You didn't say exactly what permissions have been propagated and they were ACL or POSIX.

Hi, I have not mastered the numbers and want to download basic excel for graphics. I have the Macbook Pro OS X version Yosemite and are looking for the easiest and cheapest option. I don't need all of microsoft office. What is an option? All the tips are greatly appreciated.
It is not available as a stand-alone product outside Microsoft Office Excel for Mac. You can buy a stand-alone copy of MS Office, or subscribe to Office 365. There is also a free limited version of Excel available as a web application.
I bought VMWare Fusion 4.1.4 a few years ago to work on linux and was satisfied with the experience. It has excellent performance and works perfectly.
I stopped using it for a while, and my mac had updates to Yosemite in the meantime.
Now that I need to run it again, it does not start and I have an error message saying that this version of the software cannot open on this version of the operating system.
Do to restore the functionality of my VMWare?

I'm sorry to inform you that Fusion 4.x does not work under OS X Yosemite, as you have already discovered by yourself.
fusion 7.x supports Yosemite and you will be able to run your merge existing 4.x of the Virtual Machines using Fusion 7.
If you want to test the latest version of the Fusion to see if it is worth your spending, you can install and run a fully functional version of 30 days before actually committing to spending anything.
After 30 days, you purchase a license to modify the merger installed in an unlimited version.

I have problems to restart of Yosemite, after power failure during the new backup, and now HD is also blocked.
I tried the holding of 'command-r' and 'option' to see if the problem can be resolved or try any boot from a boot disk, my old backup, USB function start - but after a slow long process it all just stops.
There is software on my HD that I don't want to lose by simply reformatting the computer, because I am now in a different country, far from my house, which is another problem of the Apple Store, to reinstall my OS from Yosemite on the www.

I am currently using OS X Yosemite 10.10.5. I bought in 2009 iMac with Snow Leopard and have to Lion then updated my current operating system. The internal dvd player has worked with much fussing, (insert the disc - closing - turn after a wait - by pushing the drive when he jumped on reboot). If I had the chance after a few hours, the video disc show up on my desk. When this happened, I was opening the dvd player that was in the Finder and the disc would play. I also tried to open the dvd first player and then insert the disc. That no longer works. Yesterday, only it just stop working. The reader still takes dvd and swirls and click as before but then ejects the dvd. Repeatedly stop and restart is no longer works. I make sure that the dvd be clean before I use it and have tried many different DVDs without success. I think it's a software issue. Does anyone have an idea/instructions a nearly dead grandmother brain that can follow to update or redate back to original factory setting to help this poor Smartdrive not so smart?

To confirm a drive failure, insert a Snow Leopard installation DVD and try to start with the C key.
If this isn't the case, they drive could not be started.
I would just get an external optical drive, one powered with an AC adapter. The Superdrive Apple USB does not work without a hack.
