Excessive CPU usage during online streaming

Hello!

First of all, let me tell you how great it is to have a support forum for my new laptop.

I have a couple of things that maybe someone knows a lot more than myself will not be able to help me with (I hope)

The first thing is (and the title of this thread):

CPU use excessive multimedia Youtube streaming while.

During playback of a standard video stream of You Tube, the processor in the Task Manager is erratic to say the least. The indicator CPU usage jumps upwards to 85%, and during playback, causing the stream to "stutter".

I use the latest versions of FireFox (17.0.1) and Adode Flash plug in (11.05 r502) even though I know You Tube will flow its media using HTML5, without the need for the Shockwave plugin.

The second thing is:

Slow system

I haven't used this laptop since I bought it new in July 2012. I recently needed to use and found that the entire system is extremely slow.

I haven't used internet on this computer until today. The software I used is media production tools. However, open the Control Panel, start remote system, using Windows Explorer, any task seems incredibly slow.

The third thing is:

Start of this laptop seems to use about 1.2 GB of Washington.

If someone has any advice they could give me it would be much appreciated.

Cheers, Dave

Nice that you share your experience with your laptop, but I will say a:
You take on the laptop but no one knows what model of laptop you have exactly.

> CPU usage excessive while Youtube multimedia streaming.
> During playback of a video stream standard You tube, the processor in the Task Manager is erratic to say the least. The indicator CPU usage jumps upwards to 85%, and during playback, causing the stream to "stutter".
> I'm using the latest versions of FireFox (17.0.1) and Adode Flash plug in (11.05 r502) even though I know You Tube will flow its media using HTML5, without the need for the Shockwave plugin.

This happens because of the Forefox or the plug-in for the Forefox.
Maybe you should try another internet browser

How about new installation OS, system using CCleaner and disabling context is not necessary cleaning processes?
Processes that are running in the background may be checked in MSCONFIG disabled
But as this feature is recommended for advanced users only, you mustn't touch him without knowing what to do.

Do you think that this value is false, or maybe the operating system uses for a lot of RAM?

  • Svchost.exe causing 100% cpu usage during the update of windows, even when disconnected.

I recently had to re - install windows xp on a new hard drive for replacement. My version of xp home edition, SP2 OEM installation disc. (This is ith group included IE6)

Once installed and running, could access windows update.

Read all the threads associated etc. and installed SP3, disc after downloading microsoft on another pc. Installed after three trys, first two caused various mistakes, but third attempt seems OK!

I've also updated the IE6 to IE8, as some sites obviously did not work properly with the older browser.

Now go do the automatic updates, or log for manual updates... BUT!

During the process, my cpu fan comes on fast and permanently! The CPU usage is showing that 100%, pc slows to crawl, the mouse becomes slow etc.

This has never happened before on this machine before you reinstall clean, he had already automatically updated to SP3 and went very well, it was some time ago, before the failure of hard drive, and it has never had this problem!

Only since having to do a cleaning manual update and re - install.

The culprit seems to be svchost.exe, once it is used by the update, running the cpu at 100% and continues to do so EVEN after stopping the service, until I manually stop with the Task Manager!

The svchost.exe instance showing a high is use: SYSTEM.

According to the files of help here, it is a known issue and a fix KB927891 was issued for SP2, but this should NOT be necessary for SP3, and in fact difficulty used to perform anyway under SP3!

Ideas for a guy to fix?

I appreciate the support for XP runs out quickly, and after this update of windows will be redundant, but in the meantime it is always useful!

Also if I turn off the automatic updates, how can I stop this annoying popup warning bubble?... I can't live without updating, but this bubble nag drives you nuts! :)

OK just a update, now running cool and 100% auto update and manual update... How? I hear you ask...

Well I had a beer and a reflection and came to the conclusion, it must be 'order' in which I updated the clean installation of XP.

Origin, I loaded the old OEM disc new hard disk, loaded the drivers etc, then stop at windows update for updated files.

Who told me my old incompatible browser and suggested an upgrade.

I downloaded and installed IE8... still no joy, reading the forums comments I downloaded and installed SP3... which SEEMED to work, BUT then all the hassle of cpu to 100% with the automatic update and updated manual on the windows don't update site!

So I just gritted my teeth, formatted the drive, another OEM of XP Home Edition SP2 installation loaded the drivers, installed a copy saved to SP3 and after restarting, THEN installed a saved copy of IE8 and THEN trotted off the coast to the windows update site... low and behold, it the connection without problem, did a search, and required updates appeared on the screen without delay all 123 of them...! :)

Did the updates, restarted and everything was fine, updates automatic in market and left the machine, after about 30 minutes appears the yellow shield, and it downloads a couple more update files without problem.

All this time I followed the via the Task Manager CPU usage and the strange spike waited 100% apartment, it was on average from 5 to 20%!...so a great improvement has this effect, by simply changing the order of the updates installed from the original! SP3 IE before IE8.

May not work for all have to do a clean install because of the HD failed, but its worked for me, and I am once more a "happy bunny!

    Dave was soon.

  • Excessive CPU usage

Windows Vista: CPU goes to about 50% of use regularly and the fan operates at high speed.  This occurs with any running application.  Manager tasks indicates System Idle Process at 90 to 94 percent, still 2 to 4 percent for the Task Manager, and several other alternate 1% each, but the CPU usage is stable at 40 to 50 percent.  Sometimes, this is Windows defender causing the it and drops of CPU usage down to normal after he stops his scan or I get impatient and stop the service.  Most of the time, however, it is not caused by windows defender.

Anyone have any idea which takes up my CPU?  It's really annoying because it kills the performance of the software I'm running.  Any suggestions? (and no, windows 7 is out of the question).

    Lame Hi Willie,

1 when was the last time it was working fine?

    2. did you of recent changes on the computer?

It is possible that some third-party programs installed on the computer is causing the problem.

I suggest that you perform a clean boot and check.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows Vista by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

See the link below to learn more about how to clean boot.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135

Reset the computer to start as usual

When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

    (a) click Start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER.

    (b) If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password or click on continue.

    (c) under the general tab, click the Normal startup option, and then click OK.

    (d) when you are prompted to restart the computer, click on restart.

    I hope this helps!

  • The CPU usage during the treatment of empty blocks VDR

Why "datarecovery" process uses 100% CPU during the processing of the empty rooms of VMDK? Dedup so complex algorithm (inefficient read) that he needs 100% of the CPU for the treatment of the zeros?

    Please inform me

For HW7 virtual machines we do not read the blocks of zero from the disc, but we chunk through the blocks of zero in the store of deduplication. If the disc has a large number of blocks of zero then for the VMs HW7 zero block segmentation will only during the first backup - since we leverage change block followed after the 1st backup. For VM HW4 this will happen during each backup since there is no change tracking support block.

  • Spoolsv.exe constant excessive CPU usage

I am running Vista and after the upgrade to Office 2010, I have problems with spoolsv.exe following one of the 99% CPU all the time.  I have installed all the current updates, have you tried the "FixIt" and there is no persistent spool file in the spooler.  I also deleted all unnecessary printers just to remove any possibility there was a cause of the problem.  If I stop the service spooler CPU and when I restart the service remains low until I opened an application using a printer (Outlook, Word, Excel or practically anything else I opened).  Can anyone help?  Thank you!

    Hi ShermanJones,

    · What is the number and model of the printer that you are using?

    1. check any error code or error message in the event viewer: link: open Event Viewer: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Open-Event-Viewer

2 in safe mode, delete the printer and spool driver files. To do this, start Windows Explorer and delete all the files and folders in the following two folders

Start your computer in safe mode: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

Remove the printer and spool driver files:

    1. Click Start, type cmd and right click on cmd.exe, select run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click on continue.

    2. at the command prompt, type the following commands (press ENTER after each)

    3 Rename %systemroot%\System32\Spool\Printers Printers.old

    4 Rename %systemroot%\System32\Spool\Drivers\w32x86 w32x86.old

  • Recurring gel due to periodic spikes in CPU usage.

I am running Firefox v9.0.1 under Win7 Home Premium 64 bit, with a dual core T4400 from Intel (Core 2) CPU clocked at 2.2 GHz, 3 GB of RAM.

This is a new (mis) behavior for FireFox.
Problem appears as periodic, temporary freezing of the FireFox UI.
During these times (during the period up to 30 seconds), FireFox does not display a new, will not respond to mouse clicks, will not be rendering typed text. These gels can affect performance systemwide, degrade the performance of other applications, even with minimal Firefox.
Initially, I thought that it was due to the mail MS Outlook Web app... but it isn't. The same problem occurs in Firefox sessions that have ever loaded a page from Outlook webmail.

I made up a few screenshots of the CPU usage and posted the result here. I post a PDF file if I know a site that would allow anonymous posters (more or less) to download a.

This page consists of images taken from the Process Explorer of Russinovich utility to show the use system resources. There is no use of I/O, which corresponds to the use of the CPU.
Firefox is without doubt the offending application.
Every 60 seconds, use Firefox picks of a CPU core, more than 90%. Use Firefox sometimes manages to spread in the second kernel as well (I don't know how he manages to do).

Info from thread by thread of ProcesExplorer (at the bottom of the image) shows that this excessive use of CPU is not the case in a plugin. It is the form come Firefox, correct.

As you can see in the treeview ProcessExplorer, I run the PortableApps of FireFox installation. But I don't think this affects the excessive CPU usage. After all, it is never used to do this. And now, after upgrading to v9.0.1, it does.
In addition, a standard installation of Firefox on the same computer (8.0.1) does NOT have the behavior of excessive CPU usage.

I'd appreciate any help you can offer to get the Firefox CPU usage to calm down again. I have several users who have switched to Chrome because of this bug.

Everyone wants firefox run fast and hang free with a minimum of memory and CPU usage, but the ideals tend to conflict as much as Firefox is often used with many extensions and in all probability of tabs masses, which in turn could contain heary image takes over and maybe animations and video.

Your original truncated screenshot had several containers of plugin, so little firefox was in a State of rest. You ae now mention webmail, and that conceviably would be a contributor to ramp upmemory usage and CPU spices then (CC & GC cycles) memory management.

Regarding the differences between the use of the two profiles, you have these two profiles to compare, and can provide clues.

Unfortunately troubleshooting tends to fall back on

    1. from firefox in safe mode and a clean profile.

      • If there are problems in this situation, that there might be a fault with firefox and a bug may require deposit in order to study
    2. Adding rear extensions and different test sites and behavior while watching for any problem to reappear
  • Very high CPU usage in svchost during playback of an event in a major newspaper of the events using WMI

    Hello

I have a very high utilization of the processor in the process 'svchost.exe LocalServiceNetworkRestricted' during playback of an event in an event log in Windows 2008 64 SP02 using local or remote WMI.  The same happens using Wbemtest or C++ WMI code.  The use of WbemTest, "Open forum" (identical to one the GetObject of WMI API) read just one of recent events in the event log:

Win32_NTLogEvent.logfile = "application", recordNumber = 2615657 (in this case, it was the id since the last event in the very large to the Application event log)

takes 3/4 seconds consuming thant plus 50% of the monitored computer CPU.  This only occurs when the event log is very large (in my case 1 million records), the event log contains about 10000 events just fine.

The problem is that I read the complete paper in a remote program and this product CPU usage charge too much CPU to the monitored computer.  I do not read the newspaper of the events one by one, but I'm using WQL queries but I do some GetObjects and the peformance is really terrible.

Any idea what to change or search?

    Best regards

  • Excessively the CPU usage high on my Equium M70

    Hello

Recently in the last month my summer CPU usage hit 100% when I m not running any software tax (only internet explore and windows media player).

It is slowing down the load time and the area near the fan is hot enough.

I have a Satellite M70-337, with a 1.7 centrino processor and now 2 GB of RAM (formerly 512 megabytes). I upgraded the ram in December and had no problems like that, now it just started happening recently, I have installed everything that would, there is no unnecessary programs running and it was after I restored my computer to factory with the startup disk settings (a month later), he seems to have come from nowhere. On the list of the Task Manager it shows my web browser and Media Player by using most of the CPU, but I could have sworn that they use so far before.

I don't know if the RAM would have been a factor, but it was the correct RAM for it and windows recognized to 2 GB.

Why would it suddenly happened any ideas guys?

    Hello

I have the same model of laptop and at the moment I have no such problems. To be honest, I did new installation OS 3 months ago and after installing Microsoft Update, I noticed this laptop does not work as before. Just for example: if I use IE7 extensively with several different tabs in the Task Manager I can see this need for IE more than 300,000 k of memory and crashes somehow. After the closure of the IE and ending THE process sin Task Manager I can work normally again.

I don't really know how your operating system is configured, but in the Task Manager, you should see what running process is responsible for the high CPU usage. Maybe some antivir application? Sorry, but it is really not easy to sayt why this happens. Play around with the current process.

  • Portege R100 - CPU up to 100% usage during execution of foobar2000

    Hello!

    Everyone knows about this problem?
My Portege R100 after installing the new copy of Windows XP and directly after the installation of the display driver, Trident (reboot) bizarre behavior.

Welcome screen goes white on the lower part (when the first yellow line is). Then I have some software problems.

When to begin the file search engine, when I update the list of wireless networks and when I add files to foobar 2000, CPU usage shows 100% and everything is so slow that I can barely move a cursor.

Everything goes back to normal once I closed above applications.
I can install all drivers and all right, but after Trident display it is bad.

This is the driver I use since I bought the laptop, I do not know that is fine.
I installed it several times before and I have a few copies of it, which I've already tried so it must be good.

The cross thing only my mind is a hardware failure.
Someone of you knows than before?

    Thank you...

    Hello

Foobar2000 is unknown to me and have no experience with this tool, but it is clear to me.
You said that the CPU goes up to 100% when running this tool.

Well, this tool is responsible for the use of the CPU! Why? I put t know.
Maybe you should contact the manufacture of this software for more details!

New here and new to Dell computers. 1st stop, I have a Dell XPS 13 "i7 6560u 16 GB and SSD 512. When using the computer, I get a series of 2 beeps. It seems to be related to the high use of the disc or the CPU usage. I guess my question is possible to put these notifications for a longer delay or at least decrease the volume of the beeps. I am aware that when I use one of my CSD programs to open a browser and looking for an answer to the question about what there will be times where I could get high uses a of these, that's all just annoying and not really want to turn them off entirely (option I would) I would delay having more time this will happen to until I get through this ,

  • High CPU usage while browsing with flash content more

I know that this can cause a several times but still problem persists even after the rest of most of the stages (analysis of malware, disabling content flash etc.). MY model is certainly an old one 910 series motherboard intel with onboard graphics card intel 128 MB running windows xp professional service pack 3. I have recent changes to the system, but that it faces from the 1 of the past month, I started. Flash games used to work properly without lag and without using a lot of CPU, but for a 1 month, he started late as * and CPU spikes almost at 100%, while the jumps game and even during web browsing with flash content and decreases rapidly after you load the page completely. I tried to disable hardware acceleration but still problem. Hope that I find the solution earlier. Thanks in advance.

    Hi Vijay,

    1. Exactly how you try to play the games? Games online or offline?
    2. If you are referring to online games so what web browser are you using to play the games?

If you use internet Explorer, then, refer to the following.

When you browse a Web page in Microsoft Internet Explorer, the CPU usage meter in Task Manager may indicate 100% CPU usage. Because of this behavior, other programs may slow down or crash. For example, if you read a video DVD, an audio DVD or audio CD while you scroll through a Web page, you may strain video or audio.

This problem may occur on some computers if the option of scroll smooth use is enabled in Internet Options.

Note By default, the use smooth scrolling option is enabled in Internet Explorer.

To work around this problem, disable the option of scroll smooth use in Internet Explorer. To do this, follow these steps:

    (a) click the Start button and then click Control Panel.

    (b) in the Control Panel, make sure you are in Classic view, with all the control panel display icons. If this is not the case, click switch to Classic view in the left pane of the control panel.

    (c) click Internet Options to open the Internet Options dialog box. Click the Advanced tab and scroll down to the settings: navigation on topic. Select or clear the Use smooth scrolling check box.

    (d) click OKand then click the close button.

  • Windows 7 update - slow download, svchost high CPU usage

I have a problem downloading by using the Windows Update application. This problem started after January 2016.  In the past, the request of update seems to work without the use of the svchost high CPU and with a reasonable download time.  There is usually a delay until the download has started, but then they ended quickly.

I have 4 computers: 3 running Windows 7 Pro (CPU - Intel dual, i5 & i7) and 1 running Windows 7 Home (Intel i3).  If the problem is not related to the CPU hardware as best I can tell.

My update setting is 'check for updates but let me download and install ".

The Windows Update process includes 3 steps:
    1. identify the important and recommended updates for your computer.
    2. the selection and download updates.
    3. the creation of the restore point and of the installation, the selected updates.

My problem is step 2, download the selected updates.  This happens on all 4 systems, and I do not expect a download to be this CPU load.  The download time is too long on all systems 4.

My online search for answers has been frustrating, but several posts said search for viruses, malware and Trojans.  I ran Malwarebytes (free), Windows Defender, Norton Security and ESET (online) on systems and no objects are found.

My most recent experience involved my Lenovo 7847 system (Intel dual core). Monday, May 23, I checked the updates and there were 15 updates important and 3 optional updates listed.

After reviewing the updates, I chose the 15 updates and started the download process.  The svchost.exe that is associated with the update happened to 45-60% CPU usage, update status showed no size or % finished and the task manager - network or explore the process did not show any activity download for a long time.

Finally, after about an hour, the update showed the download size and the % downloaded.  Svchost usage remains high during the time of whole download.  Once the download is complete, the restore point was created and updates have been installed, who also took some time (but it would be I/O CPU & Drive dependent).

The download status has not changed during most of the time that the download process is running.  The Task Manager and process explore both show very little network activity up to that very near the end of the download procedure. There is therefore no real indication that the process is blocked or just turn very slowly.   It almost seems that the Microsoft servers are overloaded, they delay the download for some reason, or the process svchost and sub-process fail to create good handshake with the server for download.

    My Questions:

    1. Why is svchost usage so high when nothing seems to happen?
    2. Why does take an hour or more to download the updates?  These aren't the huge file sizes, and this attempt to update was almost 2 weeks after Patch Tuesday, then Microsoft servers should not be overloaded.
    3. Why is the situation unchanged for so long during the download process?
    4. most important, what can I do to change this situation?

Thanks in advance for your help.

My 'update problem' seems to have changed.  Checking updates takes a lot of CPU resources and a lot of time.

We will leave well enough alone for now. [It took 3-4 hours for MU download/install updates of June on my Win7 boxes].

But please bookmark this thread. If the behavior persists in July - and especially in August, respond to this thread instead of starting a new. Good luck!
