Exe files not opening/self execution.

My files .exe such as produced by Office PowerPoint presentations are not open. I had to use Internet Explorer to open them for the moment.

I have Microsoft PowerPoint 2000. I do presentations that I use for personal and business with this program, registered as 'PowerPoint slide show', so that they are open and easily read on the PC of anyone I send them. A few weeks ago a friend installed "WinZip Registry Optimizer" on my laptop. He runs this program to try to clean my registry and thus contribute to increase the speed of my laptop. One of the side effects of this was on a simple "double-click" to open the PowerPoint slide show... I got the pop up window that says there was not a set of program to open this file and displays a list of my application programs, choose, or go online to find the right program. I chose Internet Explorer until I can solve this problem. I was shocked to say the least. I have since removed «WinZip Registry Optimizer» I was unable to restore or change back my registry I can say. The other wonderful thing that happened was during a restart of the update routine that my laptop wouldn't boot to a "missing hal or damaged. DLL file. "This problem was solved by using the Lenovo Care Rescue and Recovery system installed on my laptop. Now, given that I chose Internet Explorer to open my .pps files, I don't know if my .exe system works, or how to go back, or solve the problem.

You have to reinstall the entire operating system if a file is missing important. HAL means absraction of hardware interface and is the file HAL.dll contains important functions for just under windows is why it does not start. The logical steps to proceed would be on my own personal computer:

1 reinstall windows using the recovery partition and reload the office where the hal.dll issue fixing.

2. install microsoft office and other important programs. In addition, replace drivers on computer if necessary.

3 reinstall office must reassociate files PowerPoint allows you to run the. By exe files are you talking about automated kiosk mode? I had to use office 2003 in Kiosk mode for the class once but I don't know the settings for office 2000 dialog boxes.

Tip: I use CCleaner with discretion because it sometimes causes problems with windows programs in need of additional data stored in the registry that it helps or not.

  • .bat file changed in an .exe file that opens a file linked to the main program does not open after packed

    Here's what's happening.

I have an add on package I wanted to pack with a main program.  The problem is that the add-on is not an .exe file so I had to make a .bat file to open it, which, unfortunately, is not recognized as a user entry point.   So I converted the file .bat to .exe file so that I could create a user to this file entry point.

It is a situation similar to opening a word document and it will automatically open Microsoft word.  Only in my case I create a batch file for this word document and then convert it into a .exe file so I could create a user for this document entry point.

So in my case after it's all packed to the top and I run the user entry point, I get an error could not open file.  Is that what I would call a linked file?  I'm packing up under copy writing/isolation mode and not in merged mode.

    Any ideas?

    Hi Christopher2222,

In most cases, you won't need to run the application during the capture process. In some scenarios it will probably a solution to set some values "first round" for an application.

It's extremely likely that your computer is clean and who knows what you deleted in the registry. The most practical thing and time-effective to do would be to backup your data and do a clean install of Windows. • Each exe file I open me gives a "corrupted file... run chkdsk', but the analysis of virus and malware are clean?

    Hello

I'm completely puzzled here. When I started my computer today I got a notification saying one of the start-up programs exe file has been corrupted. I think that "uhoh". Then my antvirus software is dΘmarre with the same and I get the notification that I'm not running and antivirus. Then I realize counts all exe files I click gives me the error "file is corrupted... Please run chkdsk" appear in the taskbar. At this point, I am thinking virus or malware.

Some programs still work even with the corrupted message, but every exe, whether old or newly downloaded, will give me this corrupt message. Also, when I tried to reinstall my anti-virus, he wouldn't. (I'm under Avast Internet Security Pro).

I found myself downloading AVG free and for some reason any that exe is not being corrupt. So I at least have a running antivirus software now.

I scanned my whole system with AVG with the latest virus definitions, and it sees no virus. I run only Malwarebytes with the latest updates... nothing there either.

Is my computer clean? For me this seems unlikely, but there is something that is not a virus or malicious software that could cause this?

Also, I started in safe mode, and it makes exactly the same thing. Each exe is corrupt when I open it.

I am all of these ideas, except to the reformat.

    Thank you

    Mike

I don't see you mention on running "chkdsk".
    So, do you?

How to run the check disk (chkdsk)... assuming you are using Vista

Start button > Search box, type cmd > look up, right-click on cmd.exe > Run As Administrator >

in the black and white window, at the command prompt flashes, type chkdsk/f/r > press the Enter key.
Note: there is a space between 'chkdsk' and ' / '.
The screen will say something like cannot do it now, but you want to run it on reboot. Click on 'y' as in Yes > press > window cmd of output.

Restart your computer. It will take a while. DO NOT stop the machine. Just wait.

  • executable files (.exe files) are opened in Adobe reader.

    • My friend, I don't understand how he did it, changed the .exe on its computer files settings. He says, click with the right button on a file .exe, selected option «openwith...» "and chose the adobe reader software. Now all .exe files are being opened on the adobe reader, including the filesystem as guest, paint, calculator, browsers, uninstaller etc. Now, we can not even uninstall the adobe reader software, since even the unistaller is an exe file and will open in adobe reader. System Restore does not work. What can I do to help him?

    Hi Christophe,

If you can access the internet somehow, if you are using Vista, go to http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/06/22/reset-and-fix-broken-windows-vista-file-ext-and-type-associations-include-exe-com-sys-zip-lnk-folder-drive/ and scroll to the EXE and click or double-click it to run the program to restore EXE file associations. Once done, do the same for LNK entry. That should restore your programs. If you are using Windows 7, go to http://www.SevenForums.com/tutorials/19449-default-file-type-associations-restore.html . If you are using XP, go to http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm.

If no internet access, copy the appropriate reg entries to a flash drive on another computer, transfer to Office the 'bad' computer to and run them from there to make the changes.  Reboot and you should be good to go.

If it still does not help, try the following guide to our Member Brian M - which shows four methods that can be used to fix the Windows file associations.

    Hello

Were there any changes made on the computer before the show?

This problem may occur when you accidentally change parameters of type for the file .exe in Folder Options. Sometimes it can happen because of the virus also.

    Method 1:
I suggest you try the procedure described in the link and check if it helps.

When you run an .exe on a Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7 computer file, the file can start another program
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/950505

Important: This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. Method 2:
If the problem persists you can scan your computer anti-virus using the Microsoft Safety Scanner.

Microsoft safety scanner will help us to get rid of software viruses, spyware and other malicious software.

The Microsoft Security Scanner is a downloadable security tool for free which allows analysis at the application and helps remove viruses, spyware and other malware. It works with your current antivirus software.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner ends 10 days after being downloaded. To restart a scan with the latest definitions of anti-malware, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.

Warning: If you run the antivirus program that is infected by the virus scan will get deleted. Therefore, reinstall the program. Also, if files and folders are affected by the virus, while they might even get deleted.

    Hello

    ·        You did changes to the computer before you shut down the computer?

You can try to boot from the CD and perform a disk check, and check if that helps. You will need to change the boot order in the BIOS (Basic Input/output System) and check if that helps.

Warning: Change (CMOS) BIOS/complementary metal oxide semiconductor settings can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the configuration of the BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Changes to settings are at your own risk.

Start Recovery console, and then run the disk check. To start Recovery console follow the link below.

Note: To start the recovery console, you need the Windows XP installation CD.

Once you start in the recovery console, follow the link to perform the disk check.

Maybe it's that the file isn't compatilble with Windows Vista. Did you open on this computer before?
You could try and open in compatibility mode. If the program is not compatible, then you try to install and run the program in compatibility mode.
    Use the following steps:
    (1) right click on the program
    2) click Properties
    3) click on the Compatibility tab
    (4) select run this program in compatibility mode and select Windows Vista or other operating system, the program has been run successfully.
