  To get small icons in your Start menu

  Click Start on the taskbar, and then select Properties from the context menu.
  Ensure that the selected option of Start Menu as ist and click Customize to the right of the Start Menu option.
  This will display the Customize Start Menu dialog box.
  Use the Option Select an icon of Sice to Programms and now select small icons

  To configure your display appearance, wants to get small icons on your desktop

  Right click on an open area of the desktop and select Properties.
  Click the appearance tab.
  Click on 'effects' (in my Version of XP in German), perhaps you will need to click on Advanced.

  In my XP there is a "huge symbols" choice, if you have this choice, remove the hook.

• Oversized icons and web pages

  My icons and Web pages are huge and I can't seem to restore.  It's on the small icons and they are still huge.  If I change the zoom on the web pages that it goes down, but I can't move the screen.  I did a system restore and it still not back.  I don't know how it changed at first so I have no idea how to do to get it back.

• Blurry text web page Firefox

  When Internet Explorer web page screen text is clear. The same web page is blurry when you use Firefox (see table - text in the middle of the screen). Could you tell me how to fix it please.

  RESOLVED (weird but resolved)

  I had the same problem on my two PCs (one with Windows 7, the other with Windows XP). I tried the fixes above without success:

  • Zoom = zero
  • GFX. Direct2D.disabled = true
  • hardware acceleration = disabled

  I read that open without display correctly in Firefox 17.0 so I downloaded the portable version that I wanted to put two photos of the show (which one with 17.0 FF) and the other with FF 29,0 hoping to find help. (I did it on my Win7 PC)

  I started 17.0 FF, went to a page that has used without opens and I noticed that FF 17.0 actually display the fonts correctly. I took the snapshot and closed 17.0 FF. I then opened the same link and 29.0 FF to get the second snapshot... magically opened without displaying correctly in FF 29,0 too! (I restarted 29,0 FF and it still works).

  Current configuration is:

  • GFX. Direct2D.disabled = false
  • hardware acceleration = on

  After the launch (and then closed) 17.0 laptop FF had the question to 29,0 FF.

  Do not know why. Experts can help us understand.

  My Web pages are not displayed buttons or icons on pages.  This details box has 9 empty square boxes and does not show what they are until I put my mouse on them.

  I have a client who wants to put me a link on their Web site that will add a desktop icon to the machine of the visitor. In other words, their Web page will be a text that says something to the effect of "To add a desktop icon that links to our site, click here" it will be then add a desktop icon on the user of the machine which, once clicked, you open a browser and load their site. I don't have any idea how to do it and found nothing on this subject of Web search, other than to find other people who want to do the same. Can anyone help?

• IE 7 does not display a data for web pages after updating McAfee

  If a web page is open in IE7 only a few graphics and no text appears.  All web pages have the same problem.

  See if IE works if you run with "no"add-on", or reset it to the default settings.

  Nancy...  It seems to work.  In fact, I tried something similar and came up with similar results.  I add extra (for testing) and had to top-level menu item increase the "width: 48em" width: 58 em to adapt the additional menu item.  But it seems good.  I'm sure that when I become more familiar with CSS, I'll be able to update these things myself.

  One last question...  When you set the color of the menu items?  I tried to change the color elements for the "buttons" from dark red to something, but has not been able to change.

• Icons and boxes around the icons of web pages not displayed

  Imagine when you look at the Mozilla "enter your user name and password page" all you see is the text but no boxes around the fields. Well well... that's what I see. I see "Enter your username" but next door is no boxes around the field to enter the user name. I have to click around to see where I can type in the box.

  Other pages like the page of 360 desktop messaging used for arrow display little bent buttons as "reply" and "reply to all" and "Delete" with a grey but red X now just looking for pages. I tried to reset default FF.

• Firefox not displaying only not the icons on web page correctly except in safe mode

  Hello. We develop a website for the moment and I don't have FF in safe mode some of the icons are not displayed correctly. All other browsers work fine and it will display in FF without any problem. The site is www.livingonmars.com and the icons are the 2 arrows in the upper right of the slideshow. When in safe mode, I see two arrows. Boot in normal mode I see the bottom half of the arrow to the left and half the right arrow above.

  In safe mode, modules and hardware acceleration are disabled. You can try disabling you modules one by one to see if that helps, or you can disable hardware acceleration by doing the following:

  Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. As this feature has been added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there are still some problems.

  You will have to perhaps restart Firefox for it to take effect, so save any work first (e.g. you compose mail, documents online that you are editing, etc.).

  Then perform the following steps:

  • Click on the orange top left Firefox button, then select the 'Options' button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to tools > Options.
  • In the Firefox options window, click the Advanced tab, and then select 'General '.
  • You will find in the list of parameters, the checkbox use hardware acceleration when available . Clear this check box.
  • Now restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.

• F12 displays only the blank web page

  Hello, I can not view my php files in a web browser when you view files on my localhost. When I hit F12 only a blank browser page. I checked my path for files host local and all seems good. It worked a few days too. Don't know what I did. Help, please!

  Your site doesn't have to be online to check the code.  You can copy & paste into the W3C Validation tools.

  In DW, go to window > results > Validation... Press the green arrow to check your HTML code.
