Explorer crashes randomly on windows 7 64 bit. Have to restart the computer to correct.

Hi, I read the related discussions but don't know what the problem is or how to diagnose.

Recently, windows Explorer crashes and the only solution is to completely restart my computer.

It will work again for a while then crash.

Ctrl alt del doesn't show windows Explorer, so I can't turn it off.

Surfing the internet, some people say the shell extensions are the problem and to turn them off, but they all want allows you to download the software from their Web sites to show extensions... I am wary of downloading something from someone, I don't know if have not done this.

Not sure that the problem is... computer is completely up to date.

I think that the problem may have begun because the last windows update but I can't be sure.

Any help would be appreciated... can't keep turning off my computer during the day!

Thank you

I think I have the answer.  Has taken ALL DAY!

Malware.

About four months ago, I downloaded something nasty. It was very obvious that the toolbar in internet explore was changed etc.

Immediately contacted Symantec (I have Norton Internet Security): paid $100 to remove the offender to ensure. Did not see pictures weird or redirected to websites unwanted:

Thought I'd hired a professional and the work was well done!

Just pay a (larger) another sum to Lenovo. They took almost four hours to determine and correct the problem and the culprit was the remains of the VERY SAME malware, buried deep! I never had the problem of a virus.

OK now I want only a little (okay, big) RANT.

Things seem to be working very well now. Symantec and asked for a refund. Also to check why it is not removed correctly in the first place. He said probably, I downloaded the malware even once again and they only guarantee their work for 7 days. How was I supposed to know that the pieces have been buried deep into my computer, causing havoc, that nothing was visible?

To have Microsoft hired but Lenovo at least offer a one year support plan. Apparently, Microsoft will sell only support plans to Americans, non-Canadian (said to me on the phone when they offered the package and discovered then I lived in the Canada and withdrew the offer, would NOT take my money).

Thanks for trying to help, they offer honest help. This rant is not directed against you.

I am of course not at all happy at hundreds of dollars and hours spent being at the other end of the "guilty client game" the supposed expert virus (Symantec) and apparently being the Canada excludes the purchase of a paid Microsoft support plan (Americans are of course welcome to spend their money with Microsoft).

  • Windows Explorer crashes continuously on Windows 7 with Visual C ++ Runtime error

I have recently (before Christmas) improved my Thinkpad T60p with Windows 7 Ultimate Edition.
Everything was OK until this morning. Now whenver I launch Windows Explorer, I get a crash window saying "this application has requested execution in an unusual way.

Other apps seem to be running OK (it came through Firefox), but I can't access my files.

I tried to get back to a previous restore point: to see that there are none. Apparently, the amount of the disk reserved for recovery points was set at zero (I'm not and there are 50 GB + free disk)

    Gareth

    Hello Gareth,

Thanks for posting in the Microsoft Windows forum.

Let us know what happened after running a virus scan.

This type of error is usually related to damaged C++ components installed.

Download and install the latest Visual C++ runtime

Search for and then remove the existing installation of Visual C++. To do this, follow these steps:

    In Windows 7

    1. in Control Panel, open programs and features. To do this, click Start, type appwiz.cpl in the start search box and press ENTER.

    2. Locate the Microsoft Visual C++ in the list of installed programs.

    3. click on Microsoft Visual C++ and then click on uninstall

Note If you do not have Microsoft Visual C++ in the list of installed programs, go to step 2

Follow the steps to remove the software.

Download and install the latest Visual C++ runtime. To do this, follow these steps:
Visit the following Microsoft Web site: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/Search.aspx

In the search next to all the Downloads box, type Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable package, and then click OK.

In the search results, click the Package redistributable Visual C++ for your operating system.

Note The x 86 version of the package is for the 32-bit version of Windows. The X 64 version of the package is for 64-bit Windows version.

On the page that opens, click Download, and then save the file to your desktop.

When the download is complete, double-click the executable file.

Follow the instructions that are displayed. When you are prompted, restart the computer.

If the problem persists, try method 1 clean boot and check.

Put your computer in a clean boot state, and control.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows Vista or Windows 7 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot".

Note When you perform a clean boot, you may temporarily lose some functionality. When you start the computer as usual, the function returns. However, you may receive the error message, or you can experience the original behavior.

To put your computer in a clean boot state, follow these steps:

    Perform the clean boot

Note If the computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may prevent you from following these steps. We recommend strongly that you do not use System Configuration utility to change startup options on the computer, unless a support engineer Microsoft directs you to do so. This can make the computer unusable.

    1. sign the computer by using an account with administrator rights.
    2. click on the Start button, type msconfig.exe in the start search box and press ENTER to start the System Configuration utility.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click on continue.
    3. on the general tab, click Selective startup, and then clear the check box load startup items. (The check box use the file Boot is not available.)
    4. on the Services tab, click to select the skin all the Microsoft services check box, and then click Disable all.

Note Following this step lets services Microsoft continue to run. These services include networking, Plug-and-Play, record of events, error reporting, and other services. If you disable these services, you can permanently delete all restore points. Do not do this if you want to use to restore the system with the existing restore points.

    5. click OK and then click on restart.

The steps above to put your computer in a clean boot state. Refer to the link below to learn more about clean boot and follow the steps:

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135

When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

    1. click the Start button, type msconfig.exe in the start search box and press ENTER.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click on continue.

    2. on the general tab, click the Normal startup option, and then click OK.

    3. When you are prompted to restart the computer, click on restart.

If the clean boot is little help, try method 2 SFC scan.

The tool File Checker system to determine if the problem you are experiencing is caused by one or more system files that are used by Windows Vista, run the System File Checker tool. The System File Checker tool analyzes the system files and replaces incorrect versions of system files by using the correct versions.

To run the System File Checker tool, follow these steps:

    1. Click Start

and then type cmd in the box start the search .

    2. Right-click cmd in the programs list and then click run as administrator .

If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click continue

    3. At prompt command, the following line, and then press ENTER:
      sfc/scannow

When the analysis is complete, test to see if the problem you are experiencing is resolved.

I just got a new laptop today and installed Windows 7 64-bit. Looking at the website of Toshiba (win 7 page) I discovered that there are no drivers listed for the P11. Given that my laptop came with a Windows 7 license I at least expect that Windows 7 drivers would be on the Page of the Toshiba Support. If someone could post a link that would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

I ve checked page Australian support and drivers Win7 does not exist, yet.
To be honest this Tecra is unknown to me, but if you have newer model laptop, I assume that all of the drivers, tools, and utilities will soon be available. There is no other connection.

I m wondering you did not check the support page before you do a clean install.
By the way: this license key, activations belongs to delivered version Win7 and you cannot use it for the installation of the operating system with the Microsoft installation disc.
